December Newsletter
Vol.39/Issue 10/December 2013
We celebrated our annual Christmas Party on
December 7th at Moose Ridge Grill in South Lyon.
Thirty three of us made it, ranging from long time
members to brand new members. Those “present”
were the Battles, Clays, Dunns, Emersons, Garcias,
Gibbonses, Hennellses, Johnsons, Krecs,
Marzions, Paszkos, Eric Pearson (Karen was ill),
Ruths, Stolzes, Tuckers, Van Harts, and the Zieglers.
We talked and caught up with everyone while a band made up of a bass, guitar, and trumpet played in the
background. Picture albums with newsletters were displayed on a back table, going back to the beginning of the
club. Did you know they used to camp year round? Bob Paszko told us about a dinner along with the Camper
Show that will be on February 6th. Judy Ruth passed around photo book prototypes. One type was in black and
white and the other color. Most of us voted for color, and the cost will be about $8.00. It was noted that Ran
Hennells looked better in black and white…
Before dinner we enjoyed beverages and a vegetable tray. The
buffet dinner included chicken, pork, vegetables, potatoes and
rolls. Our newest members, The Clays and Van Harts were at the first table chosen and they learned what keeps
this group together. Food!
After dinner we moved on to the gift exchange. (Nance Johnson’s favorite thing as Bob Garcia keeps
reminding her.) Bill Battle was the MC. Bob Paszko “volunteered” Bill at the last meeting. Bill was talking
and didn’t hear, so he was stuck. Since he was in charge, he deputized Jim Tucker to take pictures. They
switched nametags which meant that Jim Tucker was the MC? Bill really enjoyed himself, giving descriptive,
although sometimes misleading explanations of the presents.
You can tell that when a present is
involved, everyone is paying attention.
Marion Marzion
found out that they
still make Chia
Pets – this one is
Homer Simpson.
Gail Battle and Steve Van Hart
seemed to be “stolen” from the most.
The listing of the presents is for your own use. Maybe it
will make you wish you had come, or it might give you
ideas for next year. They included: AA batteries, 2 LED
flashlights, lap snuggie, bug zapper, microfiber glass towel, Cranium game, Gingerbread cookie kit for ninjas,
cup holders, 2 Tim Horton gift cards, two home made wood back scratchers w/candy, wind-up musical train,
pine cone candles, notebook and pencil, Taboo game, Homer Simpson Chia Pet, lilac candle hand dipped in
Indiana, 2 big popcorn cans, Uncle Sam New Years hat +, microwave omelet pan and egg poacher, Silver
Slipper cranberry cosmo mix to use w/vodka, ratchet screwdriver set with drill bits, chicken teapot, snowman
plate, Woodsy the Woodman statue (Dunns had since 1962 and it kept their dog off the dash.), snowman and
pot holders, a jar filled with candy, a phone wallet, candle & steak knives and warm socks. Items most stolen
were the batteries (Jan Ziegler tried to hide them), LED flashlights, Tim Horton cards, Cranium game, chicken
teapot, snowman plate, and glass slipper w/ mix. Please excuse me if I got some wrong, as Bill gave colorful
descriptions rather than the actual names.
At the end of the evening, we were all given candles from the tables to take home, and the person from each
table who traveled the farthest got the evergreen centerpiece. It is always up to the president to pick a restaurant
and to run the party. Bob and Sherry did a great job with the
party. Thank you so much Bob and Sherry!
Some said goodbye until February, or for others, goodbye until
April. Those of us staying in Michigan will think of those in the
warm climates as we hunker down in front of our fireplaces.
Wherever you will be, enjoy yourselves and stay in good health.
SAFE JOURNEYS TO ALL!!
Bill Battle did such a nice job taking pictures of all the couples that I just had to share. The
pictures are in order from longest members to newest members - at least as far as I can
remember. Some didn’t have the date on their application.

First of all Sherry and I wish our entire Motor Cities Winnies family a blessed Merry Christmas and a
joyous, healthy Happy New Year. Thank you all for being a big part of our life.
We hope you enjoyed yourselves at this year’s Christmas Party. Remember, next year we’re having
an ugly Christmas sweater competition with prizes for the ugliest men’s and women’s Christmas
sweater. It should be fun.
Now for some MCW this and that.
Historically Motor Cities Winnies has not published a newsletter in January and February, although in 2012 we
started publishing a March newsletter because of our Pre-Camping Season Kick-off Dinner. Because of that, I
want to take this December newsletter opportunity to close a couple 2013 loose ends.
•
2014 Wagon Masters, make sure that I have your campout dates ASAP for a few reasons:
1. I usually update the website calendar of events during our winter downtime.
2. WIT Club is in the frozen winter tundra of Forest City, IA, and commonly reviews our websites during this time.
3. Those gainfully employed need the dates to schedule time off with their employers.
•
As a Wagon Master, we ask that you save your receipts to determine campout cost per person. Keep in mind that you are entitled to receive a
MCW $2 subsidy per eligible individual campout attendee. Eligible attendees include: WIT Club members and guests wishing to become members. For
example:
o $150.00 total receipt cost
o
$40.00 minus $2 subsidy per eligible attendee (in this example 20)
o $110.00 net cost
o $110.00/20 = $5.50 net cost divided by attendees equals final cost per person.
There is no official MCW chapter event planned for January.
For those not snow-birding this 2014 winter, why hibernate when you can Winnieate? (Winnies do enjoy
eating) Be sure to mark your MCW calendars for February and March because:
•
MCW is having a MARVAC 48th Annual Detroit Camper & RV Show and Dinner outing in February (RV show opens Wednesday, February 5th and
closes Sunday, February 9th). We have planned Thursday February 6th to avoid crowds and make it easier to accommodate us as a group for dinner.
Details to follow.
•
Back by popular demand: MCW’s 3rd Annual Pre-Camping Season Kick-Off Dinner on Saturday, March 8th. Details to follow.
Thank you for your support in making 2013 a successful MCW season. If you like your current Winnie
memories you can keep them, but our 2014 plan will provide you with even more memory coverage.

You are in our thoughts and prayers
Bob Ziegler is having Baha bone connection surgery. It will put a screw into the bone by his ear and
should improve his hearing greatly. As Bob says, everyone always said he had a screw loose…
Marion Marzion has been having a long terrible year of pain. That’s why they missed the first Show
and Tell ever. Marion was feeling well and joined us at the Christmas Party. She never knows how long
these good patches will go, but her goal is to keep going so she can enjoy her grandchild’s wedding in
August. (Maybe using pain patches?)
Barb Gibbons will be having hip replacement January 20th in Arizona. We hope to see her skipping and
jumping come
come camping season.
We hope you all feel 100% better soon!
soon!
THIS AND THAT
Watch the Tonight Show on December 18th and 20th. Skip and Nancy Yates have tickets to shows on those
days, but they still have to stand in line. They send out more tickets than there are seats for each performance
and they’re at different times. Maybe they shoot two shows and then patch them together? Nancy and Skip
will fill us in.
Gail and Bill Battle will be leaving in two weeks for a three week vacation in Australia! They will visit their
son in Perth and their granddaughter in Melbourne. We expect to hear all about it!
