For more than four decades ILJIN has been developing new technologies with one goal in mind, “making
today a step better than yesterday.” In the 1960’s and 1970’s, when the technological foundation for the
industrial development of Korea was yet to be laid down, each and every challenge of ILJIN was recorded
as a new history.
From the 1980’s through the 1990’s and on through to today, ILJIN has expanded its business to include
everything from core components and materials for all industries to finished products, while also taking the
initiative to develop cutting-edge technologies to transform itself into an enterprise that provides services
converged with such technologies.
In particular, ILJIN has further expanded its global presence by securing footholds around the world with

ILJIN Electric Heavy Technology Research Institute
ILJIN Diamond Industrial Technology Research Institute
The Heavy Technology Research Institute, established in 1987, has played a
central role in the development of the local and overseas heavy electric industry,
through forward-looking R&D. The institute has applied high technology to
equipment related to power plants and substations as well as extra-high-voltage
transformers for electric power, switches, circuit breakers and electronic meters.
Now preparing thoroughly for the future by entering into technical tie-ups
with advanced foreign companies to stay at the leading edge of technological
progress.
ILJIN Diamond is the only research institute in Korea possessing industrial diamond
powder synthesis technology. The team of researchers there is working hard
towards becoming the world’s premier research institute for synthesis and
sintering of materials with ultra-high hardness, e.g. PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond
Sintered materials) and PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride sintered materials).
ILJIN Electric Power Cable Technology Institute
The Power Cable Technology Institute is dedicated to R&D for conventional and
super-voltage transmission cables, connectors and insulating materials. It is
constantly conducting R&D to enhance price and quality competitiveness and
to diversify its businesses.
ILJIN Electric Next-Generation Technology Institute
The Next-Generation Technology Institute is trying its best to secure the seeds
for new businesses of the future, incubate venture businesses, develop new
technologies through joint research projects, and secure innovative technologies
that can change the competitive field of the future.
ILJIN Materials Technology Research Institute
The Technology Research Institute of ILJIN Materials developed elecfoil for
printed circuit substrates and lithium secondary battery collectors with its own
technologies (thereby contributing to import substitution) while trying hard
to develop high-speed plating technology as well as high-quality high-valueadded special-purpose elecfoils.
ILJIN Display Technology Research Institute
ILJIN Display is developing capacitive touch screen sensors larger than 7 inches, and
conducting research into next-generation TSP technology. The research team there
has independently developed a 6-inch sapphire wafer and 4-inch double-sided
polishing technology. Currently the team is in the process of developing wafers
larger than 8 inches and internalizing technologies related to sapphire ingot growth.
ILJIN Steel Material Technology Research Institute
The Material Technology Research Institute of ILJIN Steel has developed parts
and materials used across numerous industries such as seamless tubes, precision
cold drawn carbon steel, precision cold drawn special shapes, and stainless
tubes with its own technologies. Currently the team of researchers at ILJIN Steel
is concentrating on developing high-value-added special steel plate products.

Medical Ultrasound Technology Research Institute
The Medical Ultrasound Technology Research Institute uses its core ultrasound
technology to develop ultrasound devices for diagnosis and treatment of numerous
diseases as well as medical transducers. Starting with this ultrasound business, the
company is investing heavily to become a general medical device maker representing
Asia by continuously conducting R&D with innovative technical know-how.

Established in 1968, ILJIN Electric is the parent company of the ILJIN Group. It started out
in the non-ferrous metals industry and grew into a producer of specialized power cables,
communication equipment and basic industrial materials, which formed the basis for
national industrial development. The key products of ILJIN Electric currently include
extra-high-voltage power cables, optical communication cables, CU and aluminum alloy
wires, extra-high-voltage transformers and circuit breakers, electrical devices for power
distribution, industrial motors and pumps, cathode materials for secondary batteries and
diesel particulate filters for all industries related to all aspects of our daily lives.
In 2007, ILJIN Electric merged with ILJIN Heavy Industries generating synergies among the
affiliates, and is now concentrating on the electric EPC business (Engineering, Procurement
and Construction), i.e. providing technologies and services for power plants, transmission
systems and substations on a turnkey basis.
ILJIN Electric has and will continue to make inroads into the European, North American,

Since its founding, ILJIN Materials has concentrated on producing elecfoils which are a core
material for numerous electronic products. Now the company is facing a resurgence resulting
from the growth of the secondary battery industry. As elecfoil was selected in 2002 as one
of the top 5 materials for secondary batteries, their production increased sharply.
Paying attention to the growth potential of the green energy components industry, ILJIN
Materials concentrated all its’ competency on R&D and expanded its business to include
the secondary battery sector by producing components such as anode materials.
ILJIN Materials will solidify its position as the best elecfoil maker in Korea while stabilizing

In 1987, ILJIN Diamond, together with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, was
the first company in Korea to develop an industrial synthetic diamond and is now establishing
itself as one of the top three industrial diamond makers in the world by taking advantage
of its advanced technology in the development of precision new materials.
ILJIN Diamond entered the market in the 1990’s and has grown very quickly since. The
company is now leveraging its global sales and marketing presence in the Americas, China,
Europe and Japan to meet the needs in conventional markets such as construction
and machinery, and is expanding its business to include high-value-added areas like
automobiles, aviation, energy and semiconductors. To this end, the company has developed
state-of-the-art new materials for super precision processing and hard-slicing. It also made
inroads into the diamond wire business, and is working hard to develop new products for

ILJIN Display is an IT component manufacturer specializing in developing touch screen
panels for smartphones and tablet PCs and sapphire single-crystal substrates (wafers) used
as core materials for LED chips.
Having started in 2002, the sapphire wafer business saw the LED market begin to grow in

Since its establishment in 1982, ILJIN Steel has been localizing core component materials,
such as precision steel pipes for automobiles, pneumatic cylinder tubes for heavy equipment,
cold drawn special shapes for L/M Systems, and precision stainless tubes for semiconductors,
all with its own technologies thereby contributing to the competitiveness of the main
industries of Korea.
In 2011, ILJIN Steel built an integrated seamless tube production line and is currently trying

Having started with exterior finish work for buildings in 1975, ILJIN UNISCO was the first in
Korea to introduce curtain wall construction technology and has since grown to be one of
the nation’s pre-eminent specialists in interior and exterior finish materials thus raising the
aesthetics of exterior finish work for buildings.
Then the company was able to appreciably reduce the required construction period and
implemented various architectural designs, even designing and constructing its own
brand of high-rise buildings. The company’s technical expertise is recognized and, as a
result, the company penetrated overseas markets in North America and Southeast Asia
thus adding honor to “Korean architecture.”

Established in 2007, Alpinion Medical System specializes in advanced ultrasound medical
devices and attendant diagnostic software, diagnostic video devices, ultrasound devices
for treatment (HIFU), and ultrasound probes (transducers).
To develop world-class ultrasound technology, Alpinion has been operating its own
Applied Ultrasound Device Lab in Seattle, USA since 2009, and established subsidiaries in
Europe, the US and China. The company is expanding and is hiring more local manpower,
and increasing its technical alliances with global corporations.
More than 70% of its employees are professional R&D scientists and engineers. Alpinion is a
