A MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Fellow Lions:
Mary K and I enjoyed our time in Hawaii where I
completed my classes to become district governor
and was installed as DG of 29-L at the International Convention. It was good to see many

As we all probably know by now, several counties

1st VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR LINDA LEASURE
Fellow Lions,
Our new International President, Dr. Yamada, has chosen the
theme, Dignity, Harmony, Humanity. We were only two weeks
into his leadership when I saw Dr. Yamada's theme and vision
already being used with the flash flood at Mineral Wells. Within
hours, various clubs were making contact asking how they
could help. Lions from neighboring Belpre, Ohio also wanted to be involved with helping
those left homeless. I am proud to belong to the world's greatest service organization
and I'm sure you feel the same way! Helping those in need is what being a Lion is all
about.
Remember to add the Dan Dague Memorial Car Show to your calendars! Labor Day is
just a month away. Hope to see you there!
Thanks for all you do,
Lion Linda, 1 stVDG
2nd VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR LEE ANN WELCH
The absolute fundamental thing is that you go to bed at night
and think: ‘What did I achieve today and who did I help?’ You
have to make sure that no day is wasted. — actor David
McCallum
How often do we ask that question? DO we ask that question of
ourselves at all?
As Lions, isn’t this something we need to evaluate? What DID I
achieve today? Well, I got up, went to work, came home. So, I worked to keep a roof
over my head and food on my table, plus, the kids have clothes and shoes. Food,
clothing, shelter. Yep, I accomplished a lot today.
Did I help anyone? Sure, I signed a club check for glasses. I helped someone! Really?
You threw money at a situation. Yes, someone got their eyes examined and glasses put
on their face. But there’s more need out there than that.
When was your last Community Assessment evaluation? Why not send the form,
available on the LCI website, to a wide variety of folks in your region. And, don’t make
them all “community leaders” who have an agenda.
Discover how you can REALLY help your community so no day is wasted.
So you can truly say, WE SERVE.

Dan Dague Memorial Car & Bike
Show for Sight
Lion Eva and I have had many
distractions this year in planning for the
car show. We hope that you have seen the
donation forms in the news articles in the
district newsletter (pages 5 & 6 this issue).
If each club in the District would donate
$ 40.00 toward trophies, that would come
close to covering the cost of all the
trophies. Club participation is vital to the
success of the car show. We need
volunteers to work the day before the car
show, in the afternoon and evening and
anytime the day of the car show.
We hope that you as Lions would be
willing to go to local businesses to see if
they would like to participate in the show.
Lion Eva is talking with all businesses at
the Highlands. Cases of soda are needed
for the food stand: Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi,
Diet Pepsi, Orange, Sprite and Root Beer.
Potato chips or chips are also needed.
We are also looking for items for the
Auction and Silent Auction. Please
remember all proceeds go to the WV Sight
Foundation. Eva and I look forward to
seeing you Labor Day weekend. Come join
in the fun.

The weather cleared just
in time for the Chester
Lions
Club’s annual 4th of July car
show. This year there were
122 great looking entries, two more than the
previous best! There were cars and motorcycles
from all over the Tri-State area, and as far away as
Parkersburg, West Virginia. A special thank you to
all of the sponsors who helped make the show so
successful. Thanks also to everyone who entered
their cars and motorcycles, and all those who just
stopped down to check out the cars, grab a burger
and enjoy a great day at Chester City Park!

Cabinet for 2015-2016 Installed & DG Goals Presented
One item of business at the July 26 th
cabinet meeting was the installation of
cabinet officers. PID Larry Johnson installed
the 2015-16 District 29-L Cabinet, reminding each member of his or her responsibilities and asking them if they would serve
with “Dignity, Harmony, and Humanity.”
Name badges and pins were distributed.
District Governor John Wensyel
presented his theme, “You Can Bank on
Lionism.” He expressed his deep concern
about membership and then presented
these goals:
• Each club should have a net gain of two members.
• Decrease the number of members resigning in the district by 25%.
• Increase the number of clubs in the district by two.
The meeting took place on Lion Paul Nutter's birthday, so DG John asked all attending
to sing to him and then presented him with “Wensyel Bucks.”
The Warwood Lions Club hosted the cabinet meeting.

District Lions Help Camp Kno-Koma Host 129 Campers
Camp Kno-Koma is a summer camping experience for children with diabetes in and
around the state of West Virginia. Camp Kno-Koma provides an unmatched opportunity
for learning and fun. Surrounded by counselors and other kids with diabetes, campers
are freed from the feelings of being different and are able to enjoy one of childhood's
great pleasures: summer camp. District 29L has been a big supporter of Camp KnoKoma and this year’s support resulted in one of the best camps ever for these children.
The camp was held near Lewisburg, WV and was attended by 129 campers. Lion Ken
Porter (Dallas) and Mary Jo Graebe (Elm Grove) volunteered at this year’s camp. The
children were able to participate in activities such as biking, sports, archery, nature,
tubing down the Greenbrier River and crafts. To find out more about the camp or set up
a speaking engagement for a meeting on Diabetes Awareness, contact Lion Ken Porter
at 304-547-5276 or [email protected].
