ITALY
Italy welcomes skiers to their alpine paradise!
After all, the
southern rim of the Alps is Northern Italy's backyard. To the west is
Mont-Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, which reaches an
altitude of over 4000 meters, and the famed Matterhorn that
straddles the Italian-Swiss border. To the east, ski aficionados find
a unique landscape characterized by the fascinating Dolomite
range, one of the most beautiful and picturesque mountain lines in
the world. To the south the long range of the Apennines runs along
Italy from end to end.
With so much to choose from, skiers of all levels will find their ideal
alpine experience amidst the sweeping landscapes, breathtaking
views, spectacular food and wines, quaint towns, rich culture and
warm hospitality that brings travelers to Italy time and time again.
When you have finished skiing, remember that Italy’s nightlife
offers just as many options. Take a low-key passeggiata (stroll to
see and be seen dressed to the hilt), enjoy the finest in authentic
dining, partake in the merriment at an old-world café/bar, or dance
the night away in a disco. Step outside the main cities and take in
the magnificent views of churches, castles and monasteries
serving as a contrast to the wild beauties of nature.
Whether you prefer the well-known ski pistes and grandiose
landscapes of the Dolomites with Cortina, Madonna di Campiglio,
Val di Fassa, and Val Gardena or are more intrigued by destinations
like Sestriere in the West Alps or Pila with its unmatched views of
the Alps from Mont Blanc to the Grand Combin and from the
Matterhorn to Monte Rosa, the ski travel specialists at World On
Skis work with you to create the ski vacation of your dreams.
Additionally, our Pre- and Post- Extensions offer the best of both
worlds by combining a number of exquisite experiences for an
ultimate, tailor-made, dream vacation.

Bormio, Italy
MOUNTAIN STATS
Bormio, with nearly 2000 years of history, has established itself as a tourist region for
more than a century. Visit the area where Leonardo da Vinci once said, “at the top of the
Valtellina there are mountains always covered with snow and the Roman Baths”. Located
near the Stelvio Pass and the Ortler-Cevedale mountain range, Bormio is close to the Swiss
border yet remains the most Italian of Italian ski resorts. The Via Roma with its characteristic
little shops and frescos on the walls of its houses constitutes the heart of Bormio. In the
center of town there are many sights to see, including 13th to 16th century buildings that
give this town its medieval charm. An important
Skiing Region and famous for the Alpine Ski World
Cup Races, Bormio offers skiers every type of
activity from winter sports to the ancient Roman
Baths with their thermal waters. If shopping is
your sport, visit Livigno for its famous duty free
shopping and skiing.

AUSTRIA
Skiing is one of the most popular sports in Austria. It is even said that an Austrian citizen with no skiing
ambitions cannot be considered a true Austrian. As the birthplace and world capital of downhill
skiing, Austria leads the pack with an amazing variety of resorts, activities, extensive lift systems, cozy
and sparkling Alpine villages, plus world class ski schools. Where sincere hospitality blends playfully
with the thrill of winter sports, the Austrian Alps are a wonderland for everyone to enjoy.
Austria’s ski areas are well organized, offering a variety of transportation and many valleys that are
connected via a system of lift links. Quite often, you may start skiing in one valley in the morning and
end up in a totally different one by the end of the day. Some areas offer so many lifts and tracks, that
even after a week you may not have
seen them all. Plus, Austria’s slopes
are snowboarder friendly with one of
the country’s most popular ski locales,
Innsbruck, even being known as the
“snowboarding capital” of Europe.
The country’s mountain resorts offer
activities and fun for the skier and
non-skier alike: ice skating rinks,
snowboarding, snow shoe trails, ski
touring, horse-drawn sleigh rides,
luxurious hotels with spa facilities or
hot pools and international shopping
boutiques.
Austria’s après ski boasts just about
every version of nightlife you can
imagine. Partake in the traditions of
schnapps on the slopes and tea time
(happy hour) after skiing, enjoy a
romantic candlelit meal, or simply sit
in front of a cozy fire.
At World On Skis, we bring you the
best of Austria’s famed Alpine
destinations from the most popular
resort areas like Innsbruck and
Kitzbuhel to Arlberg region, ski
aficionados’ top pick. So hit
the slopes from the Alps of Ischgl
and Mayrhofen to St. Johann and
Zell Am See.

GERMANY
Alpine skiing with a German flavor is the powerful mystique that draws skiers from all
parts of the world to the mountains of Germany. You'll sense the magic in the long Alpine
ski runs that translate into more skiing and less time on the lift line for you. Steep slopes
and great glacial bowls offer new thrills for even the most experienced skier. Plus, the
gentler slopes provide a spectacular experience for the less expert skiers.
Germany offers unique lift networks that let you ski from mountain to mountain, village to
village. Its unequalled variety of ski areas offers you every choice imaginable – from
modern hotels and prime resorts to fairytale castles and warm cozy chalets, each with
gracious ambience and breathtaking scenery. In addition to superb skiing, many of the
fluffy white slopes offer the skier a change of pace, with skating, tobogganing, sleigh
riding, indoor swimming and tennis.
Après-ski action in the German Alps is also part of the magic. Whether you choose a beer pub, a wine tavern, a high-decibel disco,
a sophisticated nightclub or a bustling casino, the German Alps offer a multitude of urban delights. In winter, the cities are vibrantly
alive, and the art galleries, museums, opera houses and concert halls are filled with activity. If you are in Germany as Christmas
draws near, be sure to visit one of the traditional Christmas markets that give a marvelous lift to the Christmas spirit in many German
towns.
Garmisch
Garmisch - Partenkirchen Partenkirchen is Germany’s best-kept secret for good
reason -- these quaint valley sister-cities sit cozily within a natural cradle formed by a rim
of mountains, including the 9,731 foot-high Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany.
Site of the 1936 Olympics, Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers a range of winter sports,
delightful shopping and a variety of après-ski activities.

Aspen/Snowmass Vail/Beaver Creek
Aspen, an authentic mining town, is America’s original skibum destination and has gradually become the byword for glitz,
glamour, and glorious skiing. What was once the kingdom of
downhill skiing is now a very diversified empire offering cross
country runs, ballooning, paragliding, ice climbing, dog
sledding, snow-mobiling and,snowboarding - skiing’s new
vogue. Snowmass, started in the late sixties, has gained stature
with age. Today’s excellent restaurants and a lively aprés-ski
scene have lured people into the village. The selling points of
Snowmass are lots of on-slope, ski-in/ski-out lodgings, a slow
pace, and quiet surroundings.
Vail is Aspen’s rival in flair and space. It is a gigantic terrain;
no less than 5289 acres are surrounded by 14,000 peaks
under a blanket of blue skies. Opened in December of 1962,
Vail was patterned after an Austrian ski village and has
maintained that European feel. With 3 distinct mountain
offerings: long and sleek slopes, an enormous back-bowl
experience, and the Blue Sky Basin expansion; this truly is a
skier’s paradise.
