Location We have been having a great time getting together at the Foresthill Fabric Friends Community Sewing Room. Some of our fun classes recently have included: the Easy Peasy Flannel Blanket Class, the Jelly Roll Class and the Catalina Sling Purse Class. Our Foresthill Fabric Friends Community Sewing Room is located at the former Elementary School Site, 24750 Main St., Foresthill, CA 95631. Our classes are kept at a low cost, sometimes materials will be provided, otherwise a list will be provided for materials you will bring to the class. We have limited class space so please let us know if you plan to attend. You will also want to bring your sewing machine, thread, cutting mat, rotary cutter, ruler and other normal sewing supplies. Drop In Days: The room is being outfitted for people who want to sew but might not own a machine or need a flannel wall for designing but don't have the space. You might need a large table to lay something out or you just might want to hang out with co-sewers and sew sociably. When you come to the Drop In Days we request a small donation that will be used towards our rent. We also have tubs of donated material that one can look through to take home for a donation and the same for books and patterns. We are really excited to continue the great comradery of Foresthill Fabric Frenzy friendships with the Foresthill Fabric Friends Community Sewing Room. We hope you will join us! Robin Guthrie Foresthill Fabric Friends Community Sewing Room Quilter’s Planner My name is Stephanie Palmer and I'm a professional longarm quilter, pattern designer, blogger and psychologist. For years, I've daydreamed about having a place to track my quilting projects and daily responsibilities all in one place. So I designed The Quilter's Planner to make all our lives easier and more organized. I'm writing with the hope you can share this with your guild so I can get the word out to quilters everywhere. I would be thrilled to offer you a special value deal on bulk orders (see below for details). The Quilter's Planner has everything you need to organize your life, plan and track your quilting projects and be inspired to create something beautiful every day! This is a grassroots project, designed for quilters by a quilter. I am self-publishing the planner, so I am relying on word of mouth in the quilting community to let people know about it. I’m reaching out to you specifically because you are an important member of Sierra Gold Quilters Guild. And I know you love fabric just as much as I do! Little Dipper is a different type of fabric business. We want fabric lovers like yourself, to decide what designs should be made into fabric (and not leave it to executives at large corporations, like has been done traditionally). The way we work work is artists submit designs to Little Dipper, and we post the designs for pre order. If enough people commit to buy the fabric, we'll do a commercial quality run, cut and distribute it. We never take any money from our customers unless enough people decide they wa nt to buy the design first! We launched Little Dipper just one week ago with a Kickstarter campaign: http://littledipper.us11.listmanage.com/track/click?u=7cf5772fa2e14d6e78c07797e&id=30615682a7&e=6a9062a4eb We are so grateful for tools like Kickstarter that can help us get the seed money needed to launch a small business like Little Dipper. Consider checking out our rewards on Kickstarter, we are offering 1-yard at $12, 3-yards at $30, 5-yards at $50, and 10-yards at $95! Getting back to you personally, you know and understand the fabric community in Pine Grove and at your guild, Sierra Gold Quilters Guild. I’d be super appreciative if you'd be willing to share your advice for starting this new business. Who do you know who'd be interested in Little Dipper? Do you know of any local fabric stores that might want to sell our fabric? What events should we be attending? Any other thoughts, suggestions would be so very welcome. :) And please feel free to forward this email onto anyone you think might be interested! Take care and have a lovely day. I so appreciate your time and positive insights! ~Emilie D. I am an award winning quilt / textile artist. I have a blog/website and I was wondering if there is anyone from your guild that would be interested in following someone from Australia. It is often nice to learn about the different way that people live and do things in other countries. If anyone is interested then they are able to just log on for a look, or if they choose to join up with me for FREE, then they will receive a FREE E-BOOK for “HOW TO DO TRAPUNTO”, followed up with a weekly e-mail each Wednesday. This is a technique that I master in, and Applique is my other big love. If you feel like you would like to pass my address on or easier still, just forward this e-mail onto to fellow members then that would be greatly appreciated. I will leave you to make that decision. Rose Rose Lewis Quilting www.roselewisquilting.com.au Patchwork Quilts Hello Fellow Quilters, I would like to introduce myself to your group. My name is Heather and I am from Kangaroo Island in South Australia. I have been designing patterns for Patchwork and Stitcheries since 2009 quite a few of my designs feature appliqué and some have a uniquely Australian flavour. My patterns are now available as downloads through the website www.patchworkdesign.co If you purchase my patterns as downloads it is inexpensive, no postage and you receive the pattern ordered shortly after placing the order. I would appreciate if you could give this information to your guild members Regards Heather Buck The Bay Window 74 Dauncey Street Kingscote, SA, 5223 Ph/fax 0885532740 Email: [email protected] Web: www.patchworkdesign.co Quilting Stories Featured below is a summary of Jocelyn Riley's exciting Quilting Stories series, and how it can help your guild. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns with the information provided at the end of this email, and thank you for your time. “I love to quilt,” says the narrator of one of Jocelyn Riley’s Quilting Stories DVDs. “There are so many patterns and colors, textures and weaves. People say a quilt is like a textile sandwich, but I think it’s more like a collage.” Running at fifteen minutes each, Riley’s Quilting Stories series makes a perfect opening conversation piece for any group interested in quilting. Each DVD features an array of museum quality quilts paired with stories of the quilters behind them – told through their own words. The intimacy this style of storytelling creates thus emulates the tie between quilters and their guilds, providing an open space for thought-provoking discussion about the huge variety of quilts key to this time-honored tradition. “Patchwork: A Kaleidoscope of Quilts” uses the tales of women, past and present, to unfold the legacy of quilting one stitch at a time. Reading as an intimate journal, “Patchwork” pieces together the evolution of quilting in a new and thoughtful way. “Prairie Quilts,” on the other hand, is a fictional portrayal of a woman relocated to the foreign prairies of Wisconsin, alienated from both the people and the comforts of her previous life. The woman finds solace through quilting, eventually using it as a lens to appreciate the beauty of the unfamiliar landscape she finds herself in. Riley’s Her Own Words series has received critical acclaim, in addition to a variety of national awards. Her 15-minute DVDs are a great length for a guild meeting, leaving time for quilters to share their work as well as discuss the series’ stories. For more information on how the Quilting Stories series can benefit you, please go to our website at: www.herownwords.com. Chandra and Bethanie Kelsey Vanishing Design Wall Quilters’ Gift Shop www.quiltersgiftshop.com Quilting Foldy Stuff Hello Quilter, Make all the blocks for a quilt without ever sewing a seam. That’s right, never sew a seam. Copy and paste the following website page into your browser to see how it’s done: http://www.quiltwithdonna.com/howfoldystuffisdone.html Or go to either of the following websites: Quiltwithdonna.com Or Foldystuff.com Here is a challenge: If you want to see the popularity of this method, just google “Quilting Foldy Stuff.” Using the Foldy Stuff method you first transfer a grid from an iron-on transfer to a backing fabric, cut strips of fabric, sew the strips to the backing and fold the strips over to the next grid line. There is no need to sew straight since the sewing is covered by the folded over strip. That’s why, “no seams.“ It makes a wonderful traveling project, because you can hand sew the strips. Here, also, you will find over 100 appliqué and pieced quilt patterns. Our appliqué designs are unique and interesting. Also, be sure to visit our Show & Tell section and see many projects from your fellow quilters. Donna’s Quilting Hints is almost a book in itself and has a ton of information on quilting and sewing techniques. Donna has also been busy making videos. You will find them on Youtube (search Donna Poster) or there are links on our index page. VIDEOS---Donna is now making videos. So far there are 14 which you will find either on our website or by going to Youtube.com and typing DONNA POSTER into the search field. One last item: We moved.
