Family Night in Basket
“It was a dark and stormy night” or “I’m bored!” or “What can we do with
the kids tonight?”— If you’ve said or heard these comments before, what
you need is the Library and Archive Committee’s “Family Night in Basket!"
Everything you’d want or need to have a great night of family engagement
and entertainment can be found in this great basket. Food, drinks, books,
games, and a great time! "Stories from Around the World" by Heather
Amery- ages 5+; “Cookies: Bite Size Life Lessons” by Amy Krouse
Rosenthal - ages 5+; “It’s a Book,” by Lane Smith- ages 6+; “F is for
Fugitive,” by Sue Grafton – late teen to adult; “Only in California”
(Cookbook) by Joyce Hyde—A collection of recipes which reflect a mix of
traditional ethnic and nouvelle cuisine featuring the fruits and vegetables
and wonderful flavors for which California is famous. "Mind Teaser
Puzzles" is made up of 4 metal pieces, with solutions included. (Keep
away from children unless with adult supervision.) “Lazer Maze” is suitable
for ages 8 and up. Lights and mirrors may make it feel like magic, but it’s
really science and a good dose of brain power that’s needed to direct the
laser beam through this series of mind challenging mazes. Get ready for a
satisfying mental workout as you flex your strategic thinking muscles and
ignite the light both on the grid and in your mind! “Apples to Apples” is
suitable for ages 12 and up. Apples to Apples was chosen by Mensa
International as a "Mensa Select" prizewinner, an award given to five
games each year. It was also named "Party Game of the Year" in Games
magazine and received the National Parenting Center's seal of approval.
The popularity of the game led to an increased interest in similar cardmatching/answer-judging party games. Also included in the basket are
Herbal Tea, Ginger Peach Tea, Rodney Strong "Charlotte's Home"
Sauvignon Blanc, Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider, Ghirardelli Chocolate
Premium Chocolate Hot Cocoa, Whole Foods’ 365 Everyday Value

Three Nights in Lake Tahoe
Cathy Gale has a condominium at Lake Tahoe which she's once again
willing to share with us! It is in Incline Village, Nevada (north shore). It is
not available Christmas or New Year, but pretty much any other time can
be worked out. The home is comfortable, but not fancy and has room to
sleep up to 10 people if they like each other. It has 3 floors and a loft. The
first floor has a large bedroom with 1 king bed and a trundle (2 twins) and
a full bath. The second floor is the kitchen/dining/living area (one couch
has a fold out full size bed) and there is a half bath. The third floor has a
TV room, a bedroom with 2 extra long twins and a bath. Stairs from the TV
room lead up to the loft where there are 3 more twin beds. There are
decks on the 2nd and 3rd floors overlooking the 6th hole of the Mountain
golf course (an "executive" course) and a seasonal stream. It is not child
proofed for very young children - lots of stairs that have no child gates. In
winter there is skiing at nearby Diamond Peak a very family friendly area.
Mt. Rose and Northstar are about 20 minutes away. It is about 45 minutes
to Alpine Meadows. Incline Village has 2 golf courses, open late spring to
early fall. And of course there is Lake Tahoe and all that the area has to
offer. The condo is about 1 mile up the hill from the lake.

701 Minecraft Party -- Be A Player! Sunday, January 11, 1-5 p.m.
Minecraft is the creative online game that has been enticing millions of
people--young and old alike--to join in the fun. It's called a "sandbox"
game because it's like playing in a sandbox; the most important ingredient
is your imagination. And, it's a lot of fun to play in a group! At a Minecraft
party, people play in the same Minecraft environment, while interacting in
real life (IRL). It's a blast! Jenny and Sam provide snacks like cookies,
popcorn, fruit, chips, and cheese, as well as water. Allergies and food
requests honored. They have WiFi, numerous power strips, a big table,
and space for non-players to hang out. You bring a computer with
Minecraft installed (a $25 one-time fee), power cord, mouse, and sense of
adventure. (There is also a Pocket Edition of Minecraft available for
tablets. People can use Pocket Edition play together on our network, so if
you have Pocket Edition, you can join in, too.) It's exciting to be playing at
the same time as everyone.

704 WHITE ELEPHANT PARTY at 3 pm on January 17
Each guest will bring a wrapped "white elephant" from their attic or
Christmas spoils (worth at least $10). (Hint: This is a perfect use for a
Xmas Gift you don't feel like tossing, but you wonder what you'll do with it.
A good time to recycle Xmas wrapping paper as well!) The game starts as
each person adds his or her gift to the pile and we each draw a number.
#1 selects a gift and unwraps it to show the group. #2 then may choose
that gift or another. As you can imagine, we spend a lot of time swapping,
unwrapping, and laughing-- and more swapping means even more fun!
Suspense builds until the last person gets his or her choice of all the gifts,
wrapped or unwrapped. Ila will serve light refreshments, not supper, and
the party will be cancelled if 8 tickets are not sold.
