RiverScape: Creating a Wave of Excitement
RiverScape: Creating a Wave of Excitement RiverScape is a friendly riverside park in our downtown neighborhood, and it’s an event venue that has attracted more than 50,000 people in a single night. It’s a place where people of all ages come to take paddleboat rides on the river, listen to live music, and take a break outside. It’s also a place where both kids and grown-ups can learn about Dayton’s history and the many inventions that were born here -- including the cash register, the pop top can, and the Wright Brothers’ famous airplane, to name just a few! The centerpieces of RiverScape are Festival Plaza, featuring lovely flower gardens and reflecting pools and a playful, interactive fountain where kids can cool off on a hot summer day, and the MetroParks Pavilion for performances and events. In the winter, the Pavilion magically transforms into an ice skating rink. Special events and festivals take place year-round: - Cityfolk Festival - Dayton Celtic Festival - Hispanic Heritage Festival - Ice skating during winter months - Taste of the Miami Valley - Outdoor concerts and performances How is RiverScape contributing to the revitalization of Downtown Dayton? • RiverScape is a recreational activity center for local residents and a destination for visitors and tourists. Approximately 400,000 people visit RiverScape annually. • RiverScape has opened the door for more good things to happen downtown. As each phase of RiverScape development progresses, more than $100 million in private spin-off investments is anticipated.
