announced his committee appointments at
the Monday night meeting of the council.
Appointed to the 'salary and personnel
committee are Dale Bohn, chairman, Bill
Droin and Gary Gillespie.
KeithBlizzard was appointed chairman of
the budget and finance committee. Serving
with him are Gary Gillespie and Frederick
(Bill) Shaver.

DEWITT - The DeWitt Pharmacy was
broken into late Monday night or early
Tuesday morning and approximately $1000
worth of drugs was reported stolen
DeWitt Police Chief Wendell Myers said
the pharmacy was broken into' between
midnightand 1:30 am and was reportedly a
citizen who noticed the damaged door,,
where entry was gained.
The rear door was ripped open and 4 locks
were forced to gain entry.
In addition to the drugs, 4450 in cash, a
scale used to weigh drugs and small
change was reported stolen.
DeWitt Police are, investigating the incident.
Bath trustees approve budget
BATH TWP - The Bath Twp Board of

CITY COMMISSIONERS
BATH - It's now official-Bath voters
again approved the construction of a new
high school Mondav.
The election had already passed, but a
portion of the ballot explaining what money
would be used to build the new school was
omitted in the previous election.
Another election was held to include that
portion of the ballot and 529 persons turned
out with "yes" votes and 323 voting "no "

Archer; The Redwing football squad capped off the activities with a 9-0 defeat over
Waverly to put their record at 3-2 for1 the season. The victory puts the Redwings into a tie
with Grand Ledge for 2d place,
LuAnn Harr was crowned Fowler Homecoming Queen during halftime ceremonies of
the t game against Pottervllle Friday, The Homecoming was a success with Fowler
defeating the favored Pottervllle, previously undefeated. Dave Halfman w'as elected King.

DeWitt twp adopts Land Use Plan

DEWITT TWP ~ A Comprehensive Development. Plan
was adopted by the DeWitt
Township Board O'ct 9. The plan
is designed to gujde township
growth to the year 2000.
Board action'Tuesday night
followed the plan's adoption by
the DeWitt Township Planning
Commission, Prior ta adoption
by the planning commission, a
series of public information
meetings and a public hearing
were held.
Next, the Clinton County
Planning Commission will
consider incorporating the plan
into the Clinton County Land
Use Plan.
The plan considers potential
land use to the year 2000, and
contains a series of policies for
each major land use activity.
There are 8 land use categories:
low. medium, and high density
residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, park and
open space, and agricultural.
Present
and~ 'future
capabilities of community
facilities such as schools,
utilities, parks, police, and fire
protection were all taken into
consideration in the plan
development. Also taken into
account was the construction of
federal interstate highway 1-69.
In addition, the adopted plan
seeks to preserve agricultural
lands. All of these interrelationships and many,
others were analyzed and
meshed together in the formulation of the "Township's
Land Use Plan.
Adoption of the plan
culminated a fifteen month
effort by the DeWitt Township
Planning Commission with the.

The State Department of

Representative Stanley, M.

state aid payments which were
scheduled to be distributed on
Oct 1 to the, 30 school districts
which serve citizens of the 88th
Legislative District. This is-one
of 6 payments which are sent to

As life-long residents of the area, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill
have contributed'much to, the community, civically and
professionally. For thirty years - twenty as principal of East
Ward - Mrs Merrill was associated with the St. Johns school
system and during this span of time both she and her husband
participated in numerous community events and projects. In
addition to this recognition* for their public efforts, we take
this opportunity to honor Robert and Teresa Merrill on the
occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary - an event which
they marked pet. 15. This milestone, like their many other
achievements, has not been heralded by the Merrills but it is
an important event that we include among the honors in
naming the couple as our citizen of the week.

1st time the St Johns freshmen
have been behind all season.

the crowning of the 1973 Farm
Bureau Queen, Miss Becky
Gibson. She is the daughter of
Mr and Mrs Melvin Gibson of
DeWitt and a senior at St Johns
High School. She competed for
queen with 7 other contestants
who were Miss Ruth Fox,
.named runner up, Janet Davis,
Agie Rademacher, Sharon
Wood, Crystal Rhynard, Kathy
Moore and Ellen Feldpausch.

During the next war,'the casualty lists should
be written by the guy currently in charge of
euphemisms for the Mich Dept of Natural
Resources (DNR).
It wouldn't be necessary for grieving parents to
explain the empty seat at the dinner table by using
such raw words as: "Johnny was drafted and
killed."
Instead, they could say: "Johnny was put and
took."

sound as if Johnny might show up in time for
dessert. No sense giving anyone indigestion by
saying something indelicate, such as: "Johnny is

Pheasants are what turned me on this week. The
DNR has begun a new program in which
p*heasants are bred at a hatchery and then trucked
(o game areas and freed to be shot by eager
hunters.
' The DNR calls this the "put-and-take hunting
season."
According to the DNR, a hunter never kills a
bird or a deer. He "harvests" it. The well-dressed
hunter should wear bib-top overalls, carry a pitchfork and drive an Allis-Chalmers tractor. Back on
the farm, the hired man is shooting wheat.

pm on Saturday, Nov 10. The
program will deal with
recycling anything into
something useful. 4-H leaders
will be able to share ideas,
share resources, evaluate their
creations. There is no cost to
Clinton County 4-H leaders to
attend this workshop. More
