Installation Tips
To install Nero BackItUp & Burn, proceed as follows:
1. Have your serial number ready. You will find it on the back of the jewel case that contains
your Nero BackItUp &Burn disc.
2. Close all Microsoft® Windows® programs and exit any anti-virus software that may be running.
3. Insert the Nero BackItUp & Burn disc into the optical drive of your computer.
4. If the installation screen is not displayed automatically, run the Setup.exe file located on the
disc root folder.
5. The Nero BackItUp & Burn installation wizard will walk you through the quick and
uncomplicated installation. Follow the displayed instructions to complete the installation.

the icon to open Nero BackItUp & Burn.

One of the great benefits of Nero BackItUp & Burn is that users don’t need any prior training. The
easy-to-use and intuitive user interface walks you step by step through each process.
Here are five projects that are easy to complete in just a short time.
Scenario: The computer fails to boot up, but valuable information needs to be retrieved
from the machine.
Nero BackItUp & Burn Fix: Even if you haven’t done a system backup, Nero BackItUp & Burn can
help recover data from the defective computer. Even if the computer is not booting anymore, the
drive can be backed up using ImageTool. In this instance, you would boot the system up from the
bootable Nero BackItUp & Burn CD, go to Backup, select the partition containing the respective
data, adjust the settings and save the data that had been considered lost. Of course, performing
regular system backups using ImageTool increases the security of the data and ability to retrieve
data in the event of a machine defect.
Scenario: You want to work on a document for the office from your home computer.
Nero BackItUp & Burn Fix: The portable SyncTool is a gadget that can be created for any external
storage device. To use SyncTool, simply start Nero BackItUp & Burn, go to Tools and select the
respective feature. This allows you to use a USB stick to sync a work folder with a folder on any
external computer that you are working on – without having to install the application.

Scenario: Recover accidently deleted files from Flash media or other external storage.
Nero BackItUp & Burn Fix: Imagine that you’ve accidentally deleted photos from your digital
camera. With Nero BackItUp & Burn, you can access the camera’s storage on your computer
through an USB connection or a card reader. You simply need to start Nero BackItUp & Burn,
click on the Nero RescueAgent icon in the upper right corner, select the media to recover
files from and follow the wizard. The same procedure is necessary to recover files from
previously burned and not correctly stored DVDs.
Scenario: Burn/Back up data to Blu-ray Disc
Nero BackItUp & Burn Fix: Nero considers Blu-ray burning functionality a default feature for
a backup application. There are two options to use Blu-ray Discs as storage media within
Nero BackItUp & Burn: Either create a backup of your data by using Nero BackItUp & Burn by
selecting the Blu-ray drive as target for your backup or by using the Blu-ray Data Disc option in
Nero Express. You just need to start Nero BackItUp & Burn and click on the Nero Express icon
in the upper right corner.
Scenario: Backup is time consuming and you need a simple answer.
Nero BackItUp & Burn Fix: With the Nero BackItUp & Burn Autobackup feature, you don’t have
to think about backup again – it just happens. All you need to do is start the Nero BackItUp &
Burn application, go to Backup, Autobackup, and choose between online and offline backup
(Autobackup also addresses Nero Online Backup as option). You also need to choose where to
back up to (in case you decide to back up offline). The most appropriate target for storage will
be suggested automatically by the software.

Why is syncing so important?
Syncing lets you always have the most recent versions of your files close at hand. With Nero
BackItUp & Burn you can keep your files updated by automatically synchronizing multiple copies of
individual files. In other words, sync keeps track of the relationship between files on two or more
computers, USB flash drives, or other types of popular storage media. For example, if you use a
desktop computer at the office, and you use a portable computer when you are on the road, Nero
BackItUp & Burn synchronizes and updates the files on your desktop computer to the modified
versions when you reconnect your portable computer to the desktop computer.
Can I create audio CDs?
Yes. Simply select your MP3 or WAV files and burn them with Nero BackItUp & Burn.
Are updates free of charge?
Updates are free of charge and can be done directly through a download from the Nero web site
at www.nero.com.
Can I use Nero BackItUp & Burn with external devices? If so, which ones?
Yes, you can use external devices such as USB sticks, external HDDs, and FireWire devices as
a backup target.
What is the difference between the types of backups supported?
Users can choose incremental or differential backups. Incremental backups back up only the data that
has been modified or added since the last backup, whether the first full backup or an earlier incremental
backup. A differential backup refers to a type of backup update or extension. With a differential backup,
only the data that has been modified or added since the first full backup is backed up.
Can I restore files?
Yes, files can be restored to your computer easily using the Restore Wizard. Nero BackItUp & Burn
can also restore your files from a drive backup with the File View method.
