Certified Judge Quilting is Serena’s passion and hobby. She has sewn all her life and studied Fashion Merchandising at Texas Christian University. Serena entered the judging world in 2007 to promote and encourage this ever changing art form known as quilting. She entered the National Quilting Association Certified Judging program and was ultimately certified in June of 2010. Serena is an active member in many quilt related organizations (NQA, AQS, etc.) and her local guild (Quilters Guild of East Texas). She has shown her quilts and won at various shows throughout the region. In 2011 Serena entered the National Quilting Association Quilt Show and won with both quilts. She also enjoys designing her own quilts or simply adding an original border to a traditional pattern. Serena is the designer of the ribbon winning 2011 Raffle quilt for her local guild. It was a surprise how it turned out. This quilt has been my traveling quilt the last 2 ½ years. Hand quilting was a stretch for me so I used wool batting to make it easier to needle. Designed by Collette Belt or Quilters Paradise. #702 Memories from Grandma’s House Made by Wanda Sheram Quilted by Cynthia Allen I had always wanted to make a quilt to show these memories. Last year, a friend and I designed these blocks for a quilt. #703 Gallery of Birds Made by Wanda Sheram Quilted by Cynthia Allen This as a “block of the month” project of the “Applicrazies” group in 2011. #704 Primavera Made by Wanda Sheram Quilted by Cynthia Allen I had admired this pattern and finally made it. It was designed by Verna Mosquera and published by The Vintage Spool. #705 God Heals Made by Nancy Hrobar Quilted by Karen Denney Hand embroidered, machine pieced and appliqué by Nancy Hrobar. Original design. I believe these healing scriptures were instrumental in my battle with cancer. In 2001 I was given three months to live. That’s been 11 years! Hallelujah! Pieced #800 Civil War Reflection Made and quilted by Betty Atkins This quilt is a result of a Terry Clothier Thompson workshop at the 2011 TAQG Rally Day. #801 Everything’s Coming Up Roses Made by Mildred Mobley Quilted by Betty Atkins I love roses! So when I found this rose fabric while on a road trip with my daughter, I just knew I had to make a quilt in memory of our trip together. #802 Oh! My Stars Made by Donna Motes Quilted by Betty Standiferd I made the center block and then for the next year it traveled from one “retreat friend” to another, each adding something. When I saw it a year later at the next retreat, all I could say was “Oh! My Stars”. #803 Bargello n Paris Made by Dale Long Quilted by Betty Atkins After deciding to make a bargello quilt, the first challenge was selecting the fabric. The biggest challenge was keeping the strips in order. I had strips numbered and hanging from a clothesline all over the house. I’m pleased that I took the time and effort to make this quilt. #804 Green and Orange Bear Paw Made and quilted by Jim Erickson Dark green (often times mistaken for black) quilt with orange pattern bar paws and matching orange saw tooth border. #805 French Braid Made by Kathy Erickson Quilted by Jim Erickson Pink/lavender French Braid quilt. All the pieced fabric on the top was hand dyed by Kathy (except the white). #806 Sunny Pinwheels Made and quilted by Cynthia Allen This quilt was made using a layer cake and the Twister tool. It’s an innovative way to make pinwheels. The yellow coordinating fabric just seemed to shout “Sunny!” #807 Bluebonnets Etal Made and quilted by Cynthia Allen Bluebonnets, other wildflowers, and a “Turning Twenty” pattern variation combine to make this quilt for spring. It reminds me of the Texas Hill Country in the springtime. #808 A Mystery To Me Made by Alene Hansen Quilted by Karen Denny This is a mystery quilt designed by Brenda Jeschke. #809 Memories Made and quilted by Eileen York T-shirt quilt for High School student graduating this year. #810 In the Woods Made and quilted by Cynthia Allen With so many deer hunters in my family, I knew I had to make this quilt when I saw the deer panel. Although I am not a hunter, I enjoy watching wildlife, especially “in the woods”. #811 Summer Breeze Made and quilted by Eileen York 2 ½” strips can do wonderful things. #812 Rocky Mountains Made and quilted by Eileen York Batik wall hanging from a pattern bought at a shop in Sisters, Oregon where they had a sample hanging. #813 Bargello Made and quilted by Eileen York It was a challenge I’ve always wanted to try. All quilting is also of Asian origin. My favorite fabrics and most of my stash is Asian or oriental. I finally found a pattern to use this stash. The pattern is Crown of Jewels. Please note the back. The quilt is made in such a manner to make the quilt reversible. #827 Gone to Texas Made by Beverly Stringer Quilted by Sherri Markam, Dallas, TX This pattern is from an antique quilt made in the 1800’s and featured in the book “Gone to Texas” by Betsy Chutchan. I began this quilt in March 2011 at a retreat and had so much fun making it that I could not stop working on it. It was so inspiring to think of the women who made this quilt and wonder where she got her fabric and her inspiration. Making this quilt was truly a journey back in time. #828 Houses Quilted by Eileen York Kathy Harman, a friend, asked me to quilt and bind this quilt. I showed one like it at the state fair and daughter said, after I sold it, that it was one she had wanted her name on. Johnson Texas quilt depicting the Texas symbols and wildflowers. Hand Embroidery #1000 This Crazy Life Made and quilted by Betty Atkins It took me two years to do the embroidery on this quilt. I chose things having special significance in my life. #1001 Over the River Made by Beverly Stringer Quilted by Sew Pieceful Quilting Hand embroidered winter scene with traditional piecing which was Longarm machine quilted. This pattern reminded me of my school days when we sang "Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house we go!” I chose to use traditional colors for the hand embroidery and piecing. I hope to have a grandchild one day that will love this quilt and love coming to Grandma’s house for the holidays. Hand embroidery done by Peggy Painter. #1002 Spanish Crosses Made and quilted by Cynthia Allen I put the embroidered crosses in “Attic Windows” blocks with brown and tan fabrics to give the impression of crosses carved in stone. Pieced #1200 Snowy Day Made and quilted by Cynthia Allen Three beautiful deer… snow falling softly… a very calming sight. This quilted wildlife scene combines blues, greens, and a touch of treebark. #1201 Eagles Made and quilted by Eileen York I found this wonderful panel in Alaska. #1202 Hope’s Quilt Made by Kathy LaRue Quilted by Eileen York I made this quilt for my 10 year old great niece. It will be Hope’s birthday present this year. #1203 On the Road Again Made By Nancy Hrobar Quilted by Karen Denny I created this quilt for our travel trailer. This little quilt tells a travel story. The maps show where we might go. The cars are some we might see on the road. The license plates are those we might see on the way. Route 66 is where my parents owned motels when I was growing up. Lastly, it’s quilted with bluebonnets symbolizing our return home to Texas.
