Portland Willamette began as a post war basement operation over 50 years ago. In that time, it has grown
to become the nation’s foremost manufacturer of quality fire screens, accessories and gas products. Since the
beginning, the company has been committed to producing quality products that represent lasting value to the
customer.
Portland Willamette is noted for manufacturing the finest fire screens and accessories available. One of the
reasons for this is the pride of workmanship that begins with the transformation of raw metals into components
which is carried through to the assembly of the finished product.
Every metal part of every Portland Willamette fire screen and accessory is made in the Portland, Oregon plant.
Whether the process involves stamping and shaping brass and steel plates or weaving their own curtain mesh,
every step is done by their own skilled craftspeople. This allows Portland Willamette to manufacture virtually any
shape or size custom screen.

Special Orders
Special order, non-stock and custom construction doors and screens are non-cancelable and non-returnable. Once the order
is entered into the factory’s production schedule, it cannot be changed without incurring a charge (usually the full cost of the
product). There are many instances when re-working a “mis-ordered” custom construction door will cost more than starting over
from scratch. Because of this, we require a deposit and a written confirmation on all special orders. We respectfully recommend
that you do the same to protect yourself from your customer’s change of mind or misfortune. In some instances, we recommend
that you submit a photograph to assist the factory with any special construction or circumstances you may be requesting.
Special Order Delivery Times
Delivery times vary greatly due to the seasonal nature of the business and the type and finish of product ordered. For delivery
from the factory we quote approximately 6-10 weeks for Premier and Revelation, and 4-5 weeks for all other non-stock items. It
has been our experience that it works best when our dealers do not guarantee a delivery time to their customer. Special orders
cannot be canceled because “it took too long.”
Opened Cartons are NOT Returnable
Under no circumstance will we take back a glass door that is out of the plastic. This comes up most often when a consumer
incorrectly measures the fireplace opening. To avoid this, you should instruct the consumer on proper measuring techniques.
When the door is delivered, instruct the consumer to remove the door from the box, BUT leave the door wrapped in plastic and
hold it up to the fireplace opening. The consumer will usually notice if the door will not fit and be able to return it to you still
wrapped in the plastic. Please Note: We will accept standard AES stock doors back as long as the return process is followed and
the door is in the original unopened factory plastic. You will still be subject to a 25% return charge plus a re-box fee. It’s no wonder
that many dealers will not sell a glass door unless they do the installation so they avoid many of these headaches!!
Acid Damage
Acid is often used to clean masonry products during or after construction of the fireplace. Unless this acid is neutralized, the
weak, recurring fumes will destroy the finish of most fireplace fixtures. We recommend a rinse with a solution of two cups
household ammonia to one gallon water. Often it’s good to repeat the process a second time to make sure an area isn’t missed.
Acid damage is not covered under warranty. Many times the damage caused by acid will render the product useless.
Warranty Procedures
Please inform us of PW product defects as soon as possible. In most cases, repair parts can be sent to solve the problem. AES
alone is not authorized to replace Portland Willamette products. Replacement must be authorized in writing from the factory.
Without written authorization, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a credit on the defective product. Portland Willamette
makes no compensation for labor or travel costs.
The Function and Use of the Masonry Glass Fire Screen
In addition to being a very attractive addition to home furnishings, the glass door fire screen has many useful and functional
features. Starting a fire can be made much easier by closing curtains and doors and opening the bottom draft. When the fire
dies down, it can be rekindled in the same manner. Closing the curtains and doors as well as the dampers drastically reduces the
amount of heat that is normally lost up the chimney. Radiant heat is greatly increased with the curtains closed and the doors
open. Operating the screen with the doors and curtains closed, heat is conducted through the doors and the metal front of the
screen. For fireplaces without flue dampers, a glass door fire screen is a must. Closing the curtains and the doors when retiring
will allow the fire to die down safely. Since the fireplace damper must be open with gas logs installed, a glass door allows you to
close the doors (with the logs turned off) to keep heated room air from going up the chimney.
Top Damper Control: Some PW glass doors have a top and bottom damper. With the top damper control open and the doors
and bottom damper control closed, air is fed to the top of the fire, creating a slower burning, less intense fire.
Top/Bottom Damper Controls: Closing both dampers and doors reduces the amount of air entering the fireplace, allowing the
fire to burn slowly or go out.
Doors Open: With the doors open a greater amount of heat is radiated from a wood fire. A mesh curtain screen (optional on
most Portland Willamette glass doors) is always recommended for added protection when a wood fire is burning with the doors
open.
Doors Closed: With the doors closed, heat from the fire is conducted through the glass panels and metal front. Closing the
doors also restricts heat loss through the chimney. Top and bottom dampers can be positioned anywhere between fully closed
or open. This flexibility allows the owner to find the right fire burning conditions, which change due to wind and atmospheric
conditions and type, size and moisture content of wood.
