Managing Director’s Corner
Summer is officially here (although it feels like it has been summer for some time
in Central Florida!) and many Members are traveling this time of year – some to
Reunion for their summer holidays, and some from Reunion to visit friends and
family across the country and the globe.
But, before we know it, the fall season will be upon us and our golf courses will be brimming with
activity again. This is a perfect time to reiterate the proper golf etiquette for all players on the Nicklaus,
Palmer and Watson courses at the Resort & Club.
Golf etiquette refers to a set of rules and practices designed to make the game of golf safer and more
enjoyable for golfers and to minimize possible damage to golf equipment and courses. Although many
of these practices are not part of the formal rules of golf, golfers are customarily expected to observe
them. As we enter into our busier golfing months, please observe the following:
• Remember, the overriding principle is that consideration should be shown to others on the course at all times.
• The standard pace of play at Reunion is 4 hours and 20 minutes. While we encourage all golfers to keep
up with the group in front of them, anything less than 4 hours and 20 minutes is not considered slow play.
• However, if there is availability on the course to allow a faster group behind you to play through, please do so.
• Golfers should repair divots and ball marks on the green, and rake the bunker after bunker shots.
• Golf carts must be kept at least 30 feet from the green; please adhere to the cart path only on Par 3’s.
• If any issues arise on the course, please do not take matters into your own hands. Instead, please
contact the Golf Shop at 407.396.3199 so that a ranger or golf professional can be dispatched to assist.
• Reunion is an all-inclusive Club, and does not discriminate against any individual because of their race,
color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap or marital status. It is befitting and expected that
Members treat their fellow Members, and the Club staff, with respect and courtesy at all times.
Our goal is to consistently provide a pleasant and safe recreational experience for Members and guests
and to ensure our amenities are maintained to the highest standards. Our Director of Golf, Kevin Baker,
and our Director of Membership, Bev Kelber, are also committed to this goal and are available to discuss
your suggestions and feedback as we work together to continually improve Reunion.
Sincerely,
CARLTON W. GRANT, CHA

Inside T H E L I N E S
Why does my elbow
hurt… tennis elbow?
What is it? According to Gerard
G. Adler, MD, Leader of the
Aurora Sports Medicine Institute,
as well as an avid tennis player,
“tennis elbow is localized pain
over the bony prominence called
the lateral epicondylitis.” It is a
common “tendonitis” that affects
participants of racquet sports.
What is the cause? Any sort of repetitive
stress on the muscles connected to the lateral
epicondyle can cause tennis elbow. Too much
stress on these muscles can lead to microtearing,
causing pain that is usually centralized in the
muscles’ origin in the outer elbow.
What is the best treatment? Traditional
exercise, use of over-the-counter anti-inflammatory
drugs like ibuprofen, ice treatment and total rest.
Alternative treatments include acupuncture, splinting
and various types of herbal remedy for tennis elbow.
But before any treatment, identifying the cause
of the problem is the obvious priority.
The first thing to do, therefore, is have a competent
coach evaluate your game, particularly your backhand,
as this is the stroke mostly responsible for tennis
elbow pain. If your technique is poor, your coach will
guide you in making the necessary changes.
Be warned, though, that changing the poor
technique habits of a lifetime will not be a piece
of cake; it will require real persistence and
determination. However, what stronger motivation
can there be when faced with the alternative of
excruciating pain or, worse still, not playing at all?
Take care of your body and it will take care of
you. Make sure you ice, ice, and ice.
