Dear Friends
Dear Friends,
Thank you for joining us at the 2008 Fruit and Flower Annual Auction. We are
looking forward to a “wild” evening spent celebrating Fruit & Flower, eating and
drinking delicious fare provided by the Oregon Zoo, and bidding on great items
to raise funds for our programming and scholarships.
We are thrilled you are part of this important event. As many of you are aware,
Fruit & Flower has provided the Portland area’s working families with quality
childcare and development for over a century. But as important as the quality
of our programming, is the strength of the Fruit and Flower community. Tonight
we gather as teachers, staff, parents, grandparents, alumni, and Board members
past and present to celebrate the changes and developments we see in our children each week, and the achievements of the Center over the years, and build
excitement for the future yet to come!
I also want to thank all the individuals who have contributed to making this auction a success – this definitely was a “village”. Thank you to each of you that
contributed in any way to this event – from soliciting the donations and items
that make the auction what it is to helping stuff & mail invitations, to helping
set-up the room today or providing financial support… without you, it couldn’t
be done!
Please give a thank you to our Auction Committee & Classroom Project Leads:
Erin O’Brien, Angie Cuthill, Becky Ellison, Weezie Kling, Laura Bullock, Nikesha
James, Joel Levy, Julie Richards, Lilly Windle, Aimee Davenport, David Collier,
Marisa Hodes, Keith Alnwick, and Mary Felice Crowe & George Janis.
I want to specially recognize Mary Felice Crowe for all her great work behind
the scenes with databases, tickets, parent communications… you name it, she
touched it! Erin O’Brien for her amazing work with all things “creative” – from
the invitation design to the video to the centerpieces – just fantastic! Angie
Cuthill for coordinating all the volunteers and helping with all the database activities, and providing great ideas; Pat Janowski for once again being a fantastic
emcee, and last but not least - George Janis, for all of his hard work and dedication on his last auction – we will miss you!
Enjoy the evening, bid “wildly” and catch the spirit of the community around you
as we raise a glass and a paddle to this amazing institution.
Cheers!

silent auction rules
To bid during the silent auction, write your bid number on the bid sheet
for that item. Each bid sheet has a minimum raise amount. This is the
smallest amount by which the bid must be increased over the previous
bidder. Bid as often as you like, the highest bidder at the close of the
silent auction takes the item home!
Buy It Now
If the silent auction item has a Buy It Now price, and you bid on that
price, no other bids are allowed, and the item is yours! Be sure to “X”
out the rest of the bid sheet so people notice the Buy It Now spot
is filled.
Green Balloon Tables – Bidding Closes at 6:30 pm
Blue Balloon Tables – Bidding closes at 6:45 pm
live auction rules
To bid during the Live Auction, raise your bid card high enough until the
auctioneer or spotter acknowledges your bid.
raffle prize
If you have not already purchased your raffle tickets (and assuming
there are some left!) you may purchase a ticket for $85 tonight for the
opportunity to win a 9-day trip to the Galapagos Islands. Only 250
tickets will be sold. Retail value of trip is over $13,000.
The drawing will be held after the final live auction item.
heads or tails
Before we kick off the live auction, we will have a “heads or tails” game
to get the party started. To participate, add your bidder number to the
form on your table. The cost is $25 per person. Participants will stand,
and at the auctioneer’s direction, choose heads (put your hands on your
head), or tails (put your hands on your, um, tail). A coin will be flipped,
and the winners stay standing for the next round, losers take your seat.
We will continue until there is one winner!
The winner will split the pot of money raised with Fruit & Flower.
centerpieces
Thanks to our sponsor, KeyBank, we have amazing centerpieces
highlighting the wonderful children of Fruit & Flower. There is one
frame for each child. Effort was made to match frames to parents’
table assignments, but you may have to look on other tables for your
picture. If you are interested in purchasing the frames for $5 each,
please write your bidder number of the form at the table.
Frames not purchased the evening of the auction will be available
for sale at the Center.
