Stewart Road Closure Begins Tuesday, April 12
Stewart Road will be closed from the North for what is currently estimated at nine weeks beginning on Tuesday,
April 12 and reopening on Monday, June 6.
These dates are estimates ̶ weather and construction
contingencies can impact completion.
Red Legacy (Developer) advises they will be lowering the
road surface approximately 15 feet.
We have developed a plan for traffic flow into and out of
St. James ̶ for our Masses, school children drop and pickup and normal church / school activities.
This weekend’s bulletin Includes a clearly marked route
into and out of the facility.
We ask that everyone use this route everyday for all traffic
during the Stewart Road closure.
We understand that this road closure creates challenges
getting into and out of our parking lot. Working together,
we can make the best of a difficult situation.
We appreciate your understanding.
Thank You

We celebrate First Communions during the Easter season, so we congratulate our children and their families
receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time.
We also are grateful for our new Catholics, those who
were Baptized and Confirmed and received the Eucharist
for the first time as we welcomed them to the Table of the
Lord at the Easter Vigil.
We hold onto the Easter season for 50 Days − all the way
to Pentecost, so it’s an opportunity, as the Easter candle
burns brightly at each Mass, to reflect on the presence of
the Risen Lord Jesus in our lives, and pray that we might
live out that New Life in all that we do!

any way by the sexual abuse scandal. It will be an opportunity to gather to pray, to ask and seek God’s forgiveness in this Year of Mercy. Please spread the word and
all are invited to come in this Easter to experience God’s
healing and mercy.

Someone is Watching and Wondering
By now I’m sure you are familiar with
this image which symbolizes the
Jubilee Year of Mercy (December 8,
2015 − November 20, 2016) called
by Pope Francis. Reflecting on what
this means, I find it difficult to articulate a satisfactory understanding of
mercy. Webster defines mercy as
compassionate rather than severe
behavior towards someone in one’s
power; a thing to be thankful for.”
Similarly the Catholic Encyclopedia
explains mercy as “active, compassion toward another in unfortunate circumstances; an
essential form of Christian charity,” requiring “not only a
feeling of compassion but also an intention to ease the
other’s misfortune if possible.” The Catechism of the
Catholic Church states that mercy is the fruit of charity,
and we receive God’s mercy when we confess our sins
and forgive others. These parameters, although true, just
didn’t seem to reveal the heart of God’s mercy or how I
can be “Merciful like the Father.” My next thought was
perhaps grace is a synonym for mercy, so I searched for
its meaning: “unconstrained and undeserved favor or
goodwill, God’s loving mercy displayed to man for the
salvation of his soul.” Still bewildered I opened my bible.
Wow, the Concordance has three columns referencing
mercy. Certainly the Incarnation, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus are obvious examples of His mercy,
but the two other passages that struck me the were the
crucified criminal who asked for Jesus’ forgiveness, and
the women caught in adultery. Both of these individuals
had committed sins, both were brought forward for punishment required and justified by law, and Jesus offered
both mercy and forgiveness. To the criminal, Jesus said,
“today you will be with me in paradise,” and to the women
he said, “neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.”
From a purely legalistic point of view both of these individuals had broken the law, they were guilty, and under
the law there was prescribed punishment. God’s love,
however, was greater. He offered forgiveness and compassion. He offered new life. I think He continues to offer
the same to each of us. Whenever we honestly confront
and confess our sinfulness, He forgives. He welcomes us
into His loving embrace, and shows us the possibilities of
new life with Him. He doesn’t put conditions or stipulations. He is compassionate and merciful. I think that is
also what He asks of me: “Don’t put conditions on forgiveness, love even where guilt is real and punishment necessary. As St. Paul says, faith, hope, and love, but the
greatest of these is love.” Perhaps unconditional love and
forgiveness are true synonyms for mercy, as we are
called to live merciful like the Father.

St. Joseph Table Thank You
Our 4th annual St. Joseph's Table was a success.
When I get the final total I will have it posted in our bulletin. Leon and I would like to thank all parishioners
who volunteered to make cookies and cakes and
those who volunteered to help work the days of the
event and to all that came to help clear and take down
the table. This helped us tremendously. A big thank
you to Fr. Timothy and Mary DiGiovanna for the construction and planning of the design of the table. It was
fabulous! Thanks also to the ladies who helped decorate the table ̶ Mary Inzerillo, and Mary Midiri; I know
there were others I just can't remember who. There are
many more whose help we were thankful for: Those
who helped bagging the breads, boxing the cookies
and putting the favas with the medals together; the
kids who helped keep the tables and hall clean and
who worked at the raffle and candle table; Kathy Herr
for helping get donations; the Sprofera family who
helped with whatever was asked of them and gave us
support when needed. And also the kitchen help:
Leon, John Vernickas, Roger Arthur, Carl Inzerillo,
Larry Donnici, and Bruce Carter. And of course to Judy
Keisling for getting the word out about the table and
helping organize the volunteer slips. And finally to the
merchants for their donations: both Liberty Price Choppers, HyVee, Giovanni’s Restaurant, Red Lobster, The
Landing, and Premium Packaging Group.
By now everyone receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on April 11th, should have completed their
interviews and be ready to receive the Sacrament
on April 11. I need all baptismal certificates (unless
baptized at St. James), sponsor forms and letters
turned in.
