Early Years Year Group Update – FS1

At the start of term the children in FS1 were very happy to see their new school and meet
their new friends and teachers. They have now settled well and are getting used to the daily
routines. The first few weeks in FS1 have been very busy and full of activities. The children
enjoyed learning the names of their peers through a variety of games.
Our Topic in FS1, for the first half-term, was Me, Myself and Others. First the children
investigated their faces and their facial features and then they focused on their bodies and
other physical features.
Noor, Hussein and Leilah are drawing themselves.
During week 3 the children in FS1 celebrated Friendship Week and took part in lots of
activities related to friendship and kindness.

Children in FS1 are encouraged to become fully independent.

Celebrating Eid
During Week 7 we celebrated Book Week. We read lots of stories and learnt to love books with
different story-related activities such as ‘Pin the tail on the Donkey’ and playing with toys in a
Bubble Bath.

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF EARLY YEARS
We have had an action-packed start to the year and all our Early Years pupils are settling happily into their
new classes.
Friendship Week provided an opportunity to focus on the Golden Rules early in the term; and since then Eid
Costume Day, Book Week, our Storyteller’s visit and the EY focus on Healthy Eating have all provided
opportunities to extend the curriculum and learn through practical, hands-on activities. We are now looking
forward to our Halloween celebrations on Thursday 30th October.
We thoroughly enjoyed our second Healthy Eating day on Thursday and I would like to extend my thanks to
all the parents who are supporting us by encouraging their children to experiment with healthy alternatives;
and also to Mona Gawiche, of ‘Frais & Parfait’, who is now supplying us with lovely, healthy, child-friendly
snacks each month.
I would also like to thank all of you who attended the Parent Orientation Meetings and our recent Progress
meetings. A strong Home-School partnership is essential to ensure the children’s happiness and well-being at
school; as well as their academic progress. We welcome and appreciate your involvement and support.
