NOTE: • Always use, Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. RIGHT HEADLIGHT LEFT HEADLIGHT • To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater until it is installed in the vehicle and you have added coolant. Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.” 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 2. Allow the engine and all cooling system components to cool down. 3. Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow. LEFT FRONT FENDER FRONT BUMPER MASKING TAPE QB13102AE NOTICE: Radiator coolant will damage the paint. Quickly rinse any spilled coolant from the paint finish. 6. RADIATOR DRAIN PLUG Remove the front grille cover (four clips). 4 CLIPS FRONT GRILLE COVER RADIATOR CAP FRONT QB13103AE QB20804AE 4. Remove the front bumper. • • Release the four retaining tabs on each side. Remove the two self-tapping screws, ten clips, and two short clips. 2 SHORT CLIPS 10 CLIPS 4 RETAINING TABS 2 SELFTAPPING SCREWS FRONT BUMPER BOTTOM VIEW SHORT CLIP SHORT CLIP • Remove the two clips. • With the help of an assistant, remove the front bumper. • Place the front bumper on a blanket. If the vehicle is equipped with the radiator A (10 fan shroud rib), go to step 10; If the vehicle is equipped with the radiator B (12 fan shroud rib), go to step 12. INTAKE AIR DUCT With Radiator A (10 fan shroud rib) LEFT HEADLIGHT 10. Get the heater harness. Using a tape measure, install a wire tie with clip to the heater harness at the measurements (E) and (F). 340 mm (13.4 in.) 150 mm (5.9 in.) 530 mm (20.8 in.) WIRE TIE WITH CLIP 700 mm (27.5 in.) 890 mm (35.0 in.) E A D F B C G INTAKE AIR DUCT 9. QB21406BE 410 mm (16.1 in.) Check the shape of the radiator. RADIATOR A 10 FAN SHROUD RIB HEATER HARNESS WIRE TIE WITH CLIP 2 CLIPS (Push.) 240 mm (9.4 in.) WHITE MARKER QB21407BE 11. Using a white marker, mark the heater harness at the measurements (A), (B), (C), (D), and (G). Go to step 14. Get the heater harness. Using a tape measure, install a wire tie with clip to the heater harness at the measurements (E) and (F). 340 mm (13.4 in.) 150 mm (5.9 in.) 520 mm (20.4 in.) WIRE TIE WITH CLIP 14. Locate and remove the engine block drain bolt and washer. Coolant remaining in the engine jackets will flow out of the bolt hole when the bolt is removed. (Retain the bolt in case the engine block heater is removed.) ENGINE BLOCK 650 mm (25.5 in.) 890 mm (35.0 in.) E FRONT A D F B C G HEATER HARNESS WIRE TIE WITH CLIP 410 mm (16.1 in.) 240 mm (9.4 in.) WHITE MARKER WASHER (Discard.) QB21407BE ENGINE BLOCK DRAIN BOLT (Retain.) Use a 19 mm socket. 13. Using a white marker, mark the heater harness at the measurements (A), (B), (C), (D), and (G). Install the engine block heater and aluminum washer into the engine block using a 24 mm socket and a torque wrench. Torque the engine block heater to 85 N·m (63 lbf·ft). 16. Plug the heater harness connector into the engine block heater. Make sure the heater harness connector is fully seated in the engine block heater. VEHICLE BRACKET ENGINE BLOCK WIRE TIE (Point A) FRONT FRONT ALUMINUM WASHER ENGINE BLOCK HEATER ENGINE BLOCK HEATER 85 N·m (63 lbf·ft) Use a 24 mm socket. HEATER HARNESS CONNECTOR HEATER HARNESS QB21503DE QB21502CE 17. Route the heater harness in the direction shown, and secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one wire tie (point A). 6 of 12 AII 47334 (1208) © 2012 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved. www.collegehillshonda.com If the vehicle is equipped with the radiator A (10 fan shroud rib), go to step 18; If the vehicle is equipped with the radiator B (12 fan shroud rib), go to step 22. 19. Continue routing the heater harness around the intake air inlet as shown, and secure it to the hole in the vehicle panel with the wire tie with clip (point E). With Radiator A (10 fan shroud rib) 18. Route the heater harness as shown, and secure it to the fan shroud rib with one wire tie (point B). HEATER HARNESS HEATER HARNESS With Radiator B (12 fan shroud rib) 22. Route the heater harness as shown, and secure it to the fan shroud rib with one wire tie (point B). Secure the heater harness to the fan shroud rib with one wire tie (point C) and one additional wire tie. Continue routing the heater harness around the intake air inlet as shown, and secure it to the hole in the vehicle panel with the wire tie with clip (point E). BATTERY 24. Secure the heater harness to the fan shroud rib with one wire tie (point D). AII 47334 (1208) 9 of 12 www.collegehillshonda.com 26. Route the heater harness under the left headlight, and secure it to the bumper beam with one black wire tie. BLACK WIRE TIE 27. Route the heater harness along the vehicle harness, and secure it to the vehicle harness with two black wire ties. Route the heater harness as shown, and secure it to the bumper beam with the wire tie with clip (point F). 29. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one black wire tie (point G). AII 47334 (1208) 11 of 12 www.collegehillshonda.com 30. With the help of an assistant, route the heater harness through the front bumper opening, and reinstall the front bumper. 32. Install the protective cap to the front bumper grille and plug the heater harness connector into the protective cap. Remove the radiator cap and fill the system with the recommended coolant. Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to fill the cooling system and check for leaks. Particularly check that there is no leak around the engine block heater. 35. Reinstall the radiator cap. FRONT BUMPER OPENING HEATER HARNESS QB71305AB 31. Secure the heater harness to the front bumper grille with two black wire ties. FRONT BUMPER GRILLE 36. Check that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 37. Store the drain bolt (removed in step 14) in the glove box. 38. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 39. Press and hold the radio power button for two seconds to restore the radio and navi (if equipped) system functions. BLACK WIRE TIES 40. Reset the clock on vehicle without navigation.
