We appreciate your service as President, Gail! At our December meeting, Gail did a wonderful job reviewing a very active year of tennis and social events, perfectly complemented by a visual summary produced by Janet Colegrove. We were fortunate to have both Fred and Whitney join us to celebrate the year end. As the new President, I am delighted to have both Nancy Vaughan and Toni Joyner continuing on the Board, as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. And to have Patty Guillaume joining the Board as Vice President. 2016 officers, left to right; Nancy Vaughan, Secretary; Toni Joyner, Treasurer; Ginger Webster, President; Patty Guillaume, Vice President. As stated in our Constitution and By-Laws, our objectives are to encourage Duck Woods ladies to play tennis, to familiarize players with the rules and etiquette of tennis, and to support the tennis program at Duck Woods. We plan to send a comprehensive calendar of events to all members early in 2016 and to improve communications about tennis events and opportunities for all players. We have scheduled an open forum with our USTA Area League Coordinator, Charlotte Midgett, on January 14, at 4pm, to inform all members about USTA spring league formation and to answer any questions you might have. So please plan to join us for this event if you have any interest in USTA play. On the social side, we will be celebrating our December and January birthday gals on Wednesday, January 13, at 4:30 at the Club. We welcome any new or current players or lovers of ladies tennis to join DWLTA (Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association). If you have not yet renewed your membership or would like to join, the annual dues are $30.00. Please write a check payable to DWLTA and leave it with Fred or Whitney in the tennis shop. Golf Shop: 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. GOLF TIP Quiet Lower Body in the Back Swing In the take away, many golfers tend to move too much off the ball by swaying back as the club starts back. When this happens the player’s head and body tends to move off the ball as well. This bad move usually starts from the bottom and goes up. We don’t realize that too much extra leg movement in the back swing moves all of our other body parts. First widen your stance a little. This allows you to make a fuller turn without moving side to side as much. Next, limit the movement of your legs as much as you can. Concentrate on keeping your legs still. You may do this by pretending to hold a basketball between your knees. Lastly, concentrate on turning your shoulders while keeping the lower body still. You may feel a little tight while doing this at first due to extra tension built up by less leg movement and more shoulder turn. Don’t worry, this is power being stored for that extra tens yards! Swing away and finish big! If you have any questions pertaining to this aspect of your swing or any other concern you may have with your game, contact your PGA Professionals Brian Liebler and Hunter Prevatte to set up a lesson! 4 FROM THE LGA Nonie Booth I wish all members of the DWLGA and their families a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year. I want to thank the previous board, under the leadership of Carnell Boyle, for their time and commitment to the LGA the past couple of years. We’ve had some fun and challenging times together on Tuesday with new and innovative matches being played. As I sit here writing this the temperature is in the upper 60’s and has been for the past many days. Surely this won’t continue but hopefully, we will have enough pretty Tuesdays that we can play Snowbird golf (9 am for 18- holers, 9:30 am for 9holers) or at least get to the range to keep our game in shape. If you are a new member to DWCC and would like to become a member of the LGA there is information on the bulletin board in the Ladies Locker Room. We would love to have you join us. If you are really new to golf the Newbies and Bunker Bees might just be the thing for you. The Pro Shop can get you headed in their direction. As always I look forward to seeing you on the Green Tees. Nonie Booth, Chairman Toys for Tots Golf Event What a great day of golf for a wonderful cause! Thank you to all who participated!
