Jungle, sea and mountains paint an inspiring backdrop for sand-underyour-feet ceremonies, ziplining honeymoons and lots of outdoor’s fun in
one of Mexico’s most popular Pacific destinations. The weather is a bit
tropicalisimo—hot and humid during the summer, almost idyllically warm
during the rest of the year.
THE BIG DAY
If you choose Puerto Vallarta to begin your days of wedded bliss, it will
most certainly be big. There is lots of personality and good-natured
character here, not to mention a ton of venues to choose from—some
tucked into the area’s lush vegetation, others within the center of Puerto
Vallarta, and still many others in coveted spots right by the Pacific Ocean.
TOURS + SITES
Spend some time here, as there’s a lot to do and see. In Puerto Vallarta
itself, they can begin a walk of the city in the Church of Our Lady of
Guadalupe, whose foundations date back to 1903 and which features
an imposing cupola said to have been inspired by the crown of Empress
Carlota. From there you can lose yourselves in cobblestone streets lined
with shops, restaurants and lots of art galleries featuring everything from
Mata Ortiz pottery to the most eclectic of contemporary paintings.

along the way, including the emblematic Seahorse, The Rotunda on the
Sea, Nature as Mother and Neptune and the Nereid. Not to mention the
impressive sand sculptures that guest artists feature by the beach. On
the other side of the malecón (the beachside boardwalk) they’ll find their
share of eateries and bars in which to pass the time and people-watch.
A short car ride away will have anyone out to sea but also steps away
from exuberant vegetation and a jungle-like mystique. In Mismaloya for
example you can go zip lining or on an off-road jeep tour, or hop on a
boat to the rock formations of Los Arcos for great snorkeling. You can
also sail to the Marietas Islands to discover their diverse marine and bird
life—manta rays, blue-footed boobies, playful dolphins and more.
Should you rightly choose to celebrate your nuptials or honeymoon in
this amazing location, from mid-November through the end of March,
couples will even have a better-than-average chance of spotting
humpback whales along Banderas Bay.

A notable repository is the Manuel Lepe Art Museum, named after the
founder of Naif or Vallarta Art (Lepe was named Mexico’s National Painter
in 1979). Another stop: the Salcedo Theater, all done up in belle epoque,
designed by Italian Angel Corsi.
From the church, it’s a quick 2-minute walk through Puerto Vallarta’s main
plaza to Los Arcos, an amphitheater facing the Pacific that often hosts
