GOVERNMENT OF EL SALVADOR 5 Maritime Coastal Strip: Great growth potential El Salvador’s Marine Coastal Strip Marine Costal Strip potential: • The country’s main logistics and strategic infrastructures are located at the MCS: the International Airport and the ports of Acajutla and La Union. • Location of the country’s main natural assets, valuable for their landscaping features, high biodiversity and the role they play in the reproduction of the fishing resources, this assets are: Barra de Santiago, Cóbanos, Jaltepeque Estuary, Jiquilisco Bay and La Union Bay. • MCS has 51% of the country’s best farmland, including types I, II and III. • Investments in the MCS will incorporate the territorial sea to the country’s productive and cultural life. The territorial sea is equivalent to approximately four times the size of national territory. • Great potential to exploit the productive and sustainable capacity of the marine and coastal resources. • Moreover, in this territory there are currently 940 projects either in execution or scheduled to start between 2013 and 2014, promoted by Government institutions.
