Nicolas 30th book “100 Filipino Martial Artists” which was held on January 19, 2013. The best thing is to let the Vice President of the MAMFMA tell you a little about the book and the idea behind the book. Ken Magno - Vice President, MAMFMA In his 30th book, “100 Filipino Martial Artists”, Punong Lakan Garitony C. Nicolas has selected one hundred of special, living, Filipino individuals recognized for their contributions in strengthening and promoting the Filipino martial arts and its culture that is popularly known as Arnis, Eskrima, and Kali. As Nicolas had already paid tribute to passed heroes and legends during the event of the First Philippine Martial Arts Hall Of Fame on April 21~22, 2012 in Manila, Philippines, this time, he describes true-to-life people who have actually achieved in their own way the mission of the Modern Arnis Mano-Mano Filipino Martial Arts (MAMFMA) organization founded by Nicolas which states: “As a Filipino martial art, it is committed to foster nationalism, instilling social concerns and political awareness, and participating actively in community developments. The mission of the MAMFMA organization is twofold: foremost, to regain the lost glory of the art as an international sport and martial art and restore in every Filipino’s heart its cultural heritage and indigenous value; secondly, to advance the camaraderie of Arnis practitioners under one roof and one goal and leadership without losing their identity as a style, system, or affiliation. Therefore, not only Grandmasters, Masters, Instructors, and Practitioners are included in this book, but also advocates, devotees, supporters, and promoters have been given appreciation for their efforts of uplifting the Filipino martial arts. Even before the passing of the bill that had now become the Republic Act 9850 of the Philippines also known as the “Arnis Law” that would somehow standardize and stabilize the sport and martial art; some of the exceptional people listed in this book have already attempted to reconcile and unite the diversified principles and systems of the Philippine combative arts through peaceful means for love of country and devotion to its culture.” The truth is… 100 FMArtists is not enough! There are hundreds more, if not thousands, who strive for a mission similar to that of the MAMFMA which just gives good reason for a sequel to this book. And so, to the reader, this book serves as an inspiration as well as a challenge in doing your part to support the Filipino martial arts; and maybe then become part of the sequel. Mabuhay ang FMA! Most foreigners think that Filipino martial arts is only about Sticks, Blades and Knives. But, little did they know that there are other Filipino martial arts here in our country. There is Sikaran and Yaw Yan - a distinct Filipino martial arts that involves hand and foot fighting. And Dumog - the Filipino style of wrestling while standing upright and refers to the grappling aspect of Filipino martial arts, and many more. This was made with hardship and endless effort to help and promote the Filipino martial arts making this the first in the history of Filipino martial arts Community that gives recognition to the 100 Filipino Martial Artists in the country and all over the world, courtesy of Punong Lakan Garitony Nicolas - the Father of Modern Sinawali and Founder of Modern Arnis Mano -Mano Filipino Martial Arts (Pang-Oran System). Kudos to Punong Lakan and MAMFMA Professor Armando C. Soteco Founder, Soteco singsing System Even though I was not able to be in the Philippines for the opening of the book release of the 100 FMA Book. I am deeply honored as a Filipino that I am in the 100 Filipino Martial Arts Book. It show that out of 42 years plus of Filipino martial arts training that I have trained and still continued to train and teach/share/propogate to others of my Filipino martial arts and the Philippine Culture. I am very happy and proud that someone like PL Nicolas does this to share the world of 100 Filipino martial artists talents and experience. This in regards to myself and also Expose and share the culture of the Philippines Arts that is now time due to respect of its own martial arts. Maraming Salamat, Mabuhay, and Pugay - Long Live FMA Master Jose Isidro of Isidro Modern Arnis I think it is a very noble deed for PL Pet Nicholas to recognized the different Filipino Martial Artists by publishing a book containing their brief profiles irregardless of which style they belong. .Most of the time, recognitions are given, when the Masters has passed away. This way, persons involved can still appreciate the “tribute” given to them. It is also a great way of promoting the different styles of FMA. All the best to PL Pet Nicholas and a well deserve Congratulations! Master Bella Marie ‘Peachie’ Saguin Kalis Ilustrisimo Arriving ahead of time for the launching of book, I sat down and wait for the program to start. Five practitioners that were featured in the book were called upon, one at a time to the stage to speak they were: The Publisher and Owner of central Book store Professor A. Soteco, Engr. Diaz, Grandmaster Bong Jornales, and myself. After the initial event a few people came up asking for my signature in their book. I felt like a superstar especially when I heard a couple of the people were for one a gentleman from Global FMA “The Bladed Hand”. As it was getting late I expected that it would be possible to also demonstrate my art of cultural creative anyo of Docena Corto Teradas and had 3 students with me to demonstrate, unfortunately due to the time it was not possible. The book is of good quality, the contents are brief on each Filipino martial arts practitioner with their picture.
