The 2016 NAFCA Spring Safari is now in the history book. Many
thanks to all who attended, and had a good time. My sincere thanks to
every one that lent a hand to make sure that this event was a huge success.
Please patronize our sustaining members when
planning a camp-out, buying supplies or having repairs. The listing is in the Chatter and
on the website.
Now that next years NAFCA Spring Safari has been voted on to be
held at Spencer Fairground. I would really like to see some new faces
step up and help run it.
Change of Address
We will need someone or a group to come forward to run the NAFCAree for 2017. There is plenty of help out in NAFCA land to lend a
guiding hand.
Incorrectly adressed CAMPFIRE
CHATTER issues are NOT forwarded.
You can help by using the form below, or
one similar, and sending it to the office. It
takes five weeks to process any changes.
With the summer there comes many great campouts, so get out and
enjoy them. Some upcoming really good events coming, Scussett Beach
at the top of the cape, NAFCAree 2017 at Apple Island Resort, International Weekend with chapter 156, Also the July Full Board weekend. All
the information is in the Chatter.
Another campout that I am running is a campout at Salisbury Beach
State Reservation on Fathers Day Weekend. This is the 49ers annual trek
to the beach, on Saturday of the weekend we cook up some lobsters and
clams along with shared dishes. If anyone is interested you can contact
me.
OK keep your fingers crossed for so great weather for the summer
for camping.
Yours in camping,
Dennis & Pam Richardson

Scusset Beach Campout
Hope to see you at the “Beach”
June 23 – 26, 2016
If you like the “Beach” you will enjoy this campout and we would love to have you join us. We camp
in the Safari field at Scusset Beach; where it is only a
5 minute walk across the parking lot and then down
the boardwalk to the beach. You can walk 5 minutes
in another direction and be at the end of the Cape Cod
Canal; some bring a chair and just sit and watch while
others enjoy some or all of the 7 mile canal road, only
open to pedestrians, where you can walk, run, bike or
skate. There are also plenty of other things to do in the
area or just enjoy the friendship and fun of the group.
We can only take 75 rigs in the field so please fill
out your reservation form completely and send it in. You will still stop at the campground office on your
way in to check in and get your car tags; don’t forget
your rabies paperwork for your pet, as they will need
to see it.
There is breakfast on Saturday morning and an ice
cream social on Saturday night at coffee an, which is
included in your camping fee. We ask that you bring
something for coffee an for 1 night and we will let you
know upon arrival which night to bring it.

July Full Board Meeting
41st International Weekend
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year as
we prepare for another camping season. With the
American dollar trading so high it is a perfect time to
visit us north of the border for the 41st International
Weekend hosted by Hands Across the Border. It will
be held at Gordie and Tammy Bronson’s, 125 Davis
Road, Odgen, Quebec, just north of the border, on July 29th, 30th, and 31, 2016.
If you are attending NAFCAree it is just a short
drive from Odgen, allowing you a few days to visit the
North-East Kingdom of Vermont before our campout.
(Please write legible and all areas are required)

There are a number of friendly campgrounds where
you can stay on your way. International weekend is
the best priced weekend in NAFCA. Camp fees are a
low $40.00 for the weekend, and should you wish to
come early or stay an extra day the charge is just $10.00
a night. This includes water and electricity and there
is a dump station available. We also have a BBQ steak
dinner with all the trimming, and dessert, Saturday
evening at a cost of $12.00 per person (Children $6.00).

If you are around the weekend of July 29-31 why
not come to Oak Haven Campground in Wales, MA. Each year we have a summer Full Board meeting
(usually in July). The meeting will be at 9:30 AM on
Sat. July 30. Full Board is a time to iron out our future
events, check on updates, plan our future. We’ll get
business out of the way in the morning so we can
enjoy the area after lunch. We are right in the Sturbridge area. The campground is a sustaining member
centrally located to all Sturbridge, Brimfield, and the
greater Pioneer Valley attractions. There is a Farmers
Market across the street on Sat. The campground is
hosting a “Taste of Oak Haven” in the evening that
sounds like fun (tailgating around a campfire).
It is only $70.20 with our NAFCA discount for
the weekend. If you are only coming for the meeting
there will be no visitors fee, or you can spend the day
for only $6.00.
Combine business with pleasure and join us for
the July Full Board.
Reservation deadline is July 13, 2016.

Sunday Tour of Grand Isle
Your NAFCAree 2016 Committee just can’t stop. Plans are currently underway to provide you with
one more trip.
If you do not bring your vehicle with your camper
but you want to take a ride to see some of the sites and
attractions on and around Grande Isle, you’re in luck. We are working with a local Burlington transportation company to provide a Sunday trip to do just that,
tour the islands.
Before you read on, this is not a NAFCA planned
event. With the legal disclaimer out of the way, if you
arrive to NAFCAree early and want to get a flavor for
Burlington VT, why not buy your tickets now for the
Vermont Brewers Festival Burlington, VT. The date
of the event is Friday July 15th and Saturday the 16th. The event is “an Artisan Craft Beer Festival celebrating
Artisan Craft Beer and the Brewers who brew them.” The festival is held at Burlington Waterfront Park with
scenic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack
mountain range. The festival is open both days from
12pm to 9pm.

Check in is at 2:00 pm. Check out is at noon. We’ll
move people through the gate as quickly as possible
as parking on Route 2 is “not” allowed. So far, all pets that have been registered pass
the pet policy test. If you stretched the truth when
you signed up, please talk it over with campground
management ahead of time.
Tents are “not” allowed on campsites. Tent sites
are still available. Most of the sites are sunny, so bring
your canopies and screen houses as long as they are
within the 12’ X 12’ by 8’ limit. The sites do have 50amp service, so you’re a/c should have ample power.
The utility and flatbed trailers you used to tow
your extra vehicle are not allowed on your site. These
can be stored at the onsite storage area. You can keep
your boat at your site as long as you only have one
other vehicle parked. You can also keep your boat
in the water. There is a boat launch at the marina.
Contact the campground for mooring and dock arrangements.
Bicycles, kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, row boats,
and 10-12 passenger pontoon boats are available for
rent from the office. Check with the office for NAFCA
discounts.
In addition to the pool and hot tub, the campground facilities include a fitness room, library, community center, full service bathhouse, laundry, camp
store, and a deli. Wi-fi is provided, but the signal at
the site or in your camper may be weak. So plan to
use wi-fi for light duty. The signal is strongest in the
community center.
Taxes! Vermont state sales tax is 9%. So be prepared to pay close to 10 cents more for every buck
you spend.

QUAHAUG CHAPTER
CAMP-O-RAMA
SEPTEMBER 15 to 18, 2016
“SEA-ING IS BELIEVING!”
That’s what we’re calling our 53 Quahaug Chapter
Camp-O-Rama! Really, that is how we feel when we
talk to new folks about our annual BEACH BLAST
at the end of the camping season. Those who have
been before know how much fun it is to plan to cap
off the camping season with a trip to Rhode Island’s
premier ocean beach in Middletown. Not only is
it a gorgeous beach, but it is an activity-packed
weekend put on by a chapter that puts all they have
into sponsoring this weekend. Planning starts the
week after it’s over for the year. We read through
the comment sheets and decide what will make it
better—based on what our guests tell us. In fact this
year’s theme was suggested by one family last year. 2016 is going to be all about the ocean –over and

under. So----are there any mermaids out there who
would like to come to add some fun to our party???
this is a great opportunity to get close to Mother
Nature----and have a blast of fun besides-------
Speaking of “mermaids”, We have a very special
feature planned this year for Friday night, We have
“Becky” coming with her- do your own paintingparty that will give all you budding artists a chance
to paint your very own sea-themed souvenir. She is
bringing her “Mermaid Masterpieces” to the Beach,
where for a small fee you will learn how to paint a
lovely picture to bring home. These parties have
been wildly popular around here, and we think you
will enjoy it. We’ll have music, coffee and goodies
along with it to make for relaxed fun after you get
your trailer settled. Of course, we will still be having
our homemade chowder and /or hot dogs earlier. Deadline for reservations

Thanks for listening, Paula Bradley
Any of you reading about Camp-O-Rama for the
first time, it is important to know this is no ordinary
campout. Yes, we work hard to make it a fun time,
but really the star attraction here is the Beach! In
September, depending on the temperature in the air,
usually the water is quite warm still, and there are
many who like nothing better than to swim in the
surf of an Atlantic Beach. It is such a gorgeous beach,
with very few obstructions to get in the way, that they
are actually making a movie here—right now in May. It’s called “The Discovery” and stars Rooney Mara
and Jason Segel. Also, it is just a short walk to the
Sachuest Point Wildlife Center, which is free, where
they have interesting exhibits and a perfect spot to
sit on the rocks and watch the surf. Purgatory Rock
is a short distance in the other direction---a curious
landmark Middletown is known for. To sum it up,

What??????? You must be wondering why an

barely started camping this season. You must admit
camping season flies by when you are having fun
with NAFCA. The Connecticut chapters are hosting
the event this year at Mineral Springs Family CampRegistration Form

Mattabessett #86 will be offering a delicious spaghetti and meatball dinner for your Saturday night
pleasure. Our own Italian chef, Annette Baisley, will
making the sauce from scratch, so you know the aroma
will drive you crazy in anticipation of that first bite.
Accompanying the pasta will be salad, bread and desserts. There will be popular recorded Italian-American
songs playing softly in the background. Try not to sing
along as you eat as I forgot how to do the Heimlich
maneuver if you start choking. Bring along some Italian wine or beer to enhance the mood.
Mineral Springs Family Campground is charging just $80 for this weekend and generously offered
to lower the price to $72 if we get 10 rigs. At least 3
families from Mattabessett #86 will be attending so it
should not be too difficult to get another 7. Should we
get 10 total, you will be promptly refunded $8.

Just as I thought some lucky folks got some new

Summers Here!
By the time you read this, we’ll have gone on our
first campout to Ginny B’s in Foster, RI. As I write
this, I’m hopeful the weather will be beautiful! Winter
was pretty mild, and spring has also been very good
to us. Let’s hope that doesn’t mean summer will be
gloomy with lots of rain, naw! My twin sister will be visiting while we’re at Ginny B’s. Let’s see if I can play a prank on the Wolfie’s
to see if anyone notices!?! They won’t read this until
after we’ve gone, so I think I’m safe no one will see
this article beforehand. We will also be having another
guest who use to be a member years ago. Actually, it’s
Brian Pepin. His dad and mom, Dick & Aline Pepin
started the Wolf Den Club many years ago. Brian has
told me he wants to get back into camping, but not
sure when it will happen. I plan to show them what
a fun time they’re missing out on when they don’t
come. Really looking forward to seeing Brian and
his girlfriend Melissa. Also, hoping we can get Pat
Henault and Willie Harwood to visit too!
Our June activities are the following: the month
starts with a breakfast on the 4th from 7:00AM-9:30AM
with the menu to be announced. That night also has
a spaghetti supper at 5:00PM. The 5th has our board
meeting at 11:00AM and the chapter meeting at
1:00PM. The 11th has our second cleanup day from
8:00AM-12:00PM, sewing classes at 9:00AM, a free
summer salad luncheon at 12:00PM and the first cribbage of the summer at 2:00PM. It would be really nice
to have some more members playing cribbage this
summer. The 18th has the murder mystery supper at
5:00PM. If you have any questions regarding this meal
just ask Carol Cole. The 25th has sewing classes again
at 9:00AM and the second cribbage at 2:00PM. This
takes care of our June activities as they now stand. As
always keep an eye on the website and in the newsletter for any changes or updates to the schedule.
Pine Tree #33
Hi everyone, wishing the father’s out there a Happy Father’s Day. Mother Nature was confused with
snow on April 26th after it finally started to look like
spring. Luckily it melted in a couple of days. I was able
to camp for four weekends in April. I am surprised
more people did not bring in their rigs earlier then lot
assignment weekend. By the time you read this our
camping season will be in full swing. A big welcome
goes to our new lot holders and users. I hope you can
join in as many activities as possible since the more
people we have the more fun we will have.
On April 3rd we were supposed to have our first
board & chapter meetings of the year. Since we did
not have a quorum of officers we did not have the
meetings. We did have a really good chicken pie
lunch put on by the ladies from the VFW Hall. I did
not take a head count so I am not sure how many
actually showed up. That was the only scheduled
activities in April.
Like I said in my May report I am putting the
June activities again in this report and will put July’s
Well I’ll keep you posted as to what going on and
hopefully you can come for a visit and see for yourself
why we at P.V.A. enjoy it so much at our little campground on the Hudson (stream that is)!

This weekend will be the NAFCA annual meeting. Time to plan
your summer activities. Hope that
the annual MA State Campout at
Scusset Beach State Reservation
will be on the list. It is happening
June 23-26 right on the Cape Cod
Canal. We can fish, swim, shop,
eat and have a great time “at the
beach”. Most of us look forward to this almost as
much as Camp-O-Rama. Read all about it in Chatter, ask any questions that you might have, but don’t
delay. We can only accept 75 rigs!
Soon Chapters will be receiving their packets with
all the info for the MA Fall Frolic. “Camp Halloween
in 2016” is the theme and it takes place Sept. 22-25,
2016 at the Spencer Fair Grounds in Spencer, MA. We will have games, booths, raffles, both teen and
children activities, but most of all fun camping in the
country. The kids will be back in school but it is still
too early to give up camping for the season. Camp
with us before you head “south” for the winter! We
plan on having a “real” witch with us (no, it is not
me!). Let us cast a spell on you….if you dare!

Hello all,
Earlier this month, our meeting was indoors. Next
month, and for months to come - outdoors it is!! Rich
Bishop came back again!!! With the nicer weather
coming, I hope we’ll see more of him.
Of course - we discussed campouts!!
Elise talked about Pearl Hill and the fact the Boy
Scouts won’t be there, it is their Jamboree weekend.
I’m sure Elise will keep everyone busy with sprucing
up the McCune memorial garden as well as raking out
the campsites and putting tables down.
I won’t be camping at Pearl Hill this year - I will
be attending a First Communion. I’m hoping to make
it back in time for the meeting though. Is it supposed
to rain? Or was that a silly question?
Spring Safari is coming up too. Jim was tasked
with buying the gift - which he did, by the way. Now
to make sure it gets to Spencer!!!
The June campout will be at Wakeda Campground in Hampton Falls, NH. We’ll be about 10
minutes from Hampton Beach and some of the attractions are the Hampton Airfield and The Airfield
Cafe (heard they have great breakfasts) as well as the
Red Hook and Throwback Breweries, and shopping.
The campground even has mini-golf!! More details
will follow; it will be a fun weekend no matter what.
I heard through the grapevine that a number of
our snowbirds are back!!! I suspect they will be at
Pearl Hill so I’ll definitely try to get back from the First
Communion celebration to visit. Maybe then I’ll get
some more pictures to share! Happy camping!! Barbara Starr

If you didn’t attend this years NAFCA Spring
Safari you missed a fantastic time. There were 92
families in attendance. The games went off without
a hitch. The Chinese Auction was loaded with prizes
and the drawing went very quickly. The evening
entertainment of trivia was a great time, attended by
over 50 participants and kept everyone in stitches the
whole evening.
The Committee from Pioneer Valley Chapter 8
deserve a big “Thank You” for a job well done. I
wouldn’t have change a thing.
One of the things I like most about camping is the
evening campfires. It is enjoyable to sit and stair at
the fire as you have conversations with all the other
campers around you. Over the last year this has
changed. It seams that there is less confersation and
when you look up youe see many people stairing at
there phones. It is really too bad that people can’t
spend an hour or two without being connected to the
outside world. We use to go camping just to get away
from all these distractions. If I had my way phones
would be banned from the fire but who am I to say. Please think about it. Dick Basha, Editor
