HOUSTON EDITION

President’s Message
Life is not an emergency . . . it just feels like one! With the beginning of
summer, things will begin to slow down and dry out [hopefully]. School is
out. It’s vacation season. The heat is here and traffic is a bit lighter. We’re
truly into the lazy days of summer, and it’s a good time to reflect on our own
friend and family connections.
I recently got to go back to South Padre with my beach group for a week of
relaxing and good times. We have been going to South Padre for about
eleven years and this was my eighth year to go. Each year I learn more
things about my good friends and their families. When I returned home my
daughter was in for over a week and you know how much I love having her
home.
Linda Petticrew,
Our lives are all about family. Your family is the story of who you are and
Shell Energy
Resources Company where you came from. Ideals and beliefs change, but this is the blueprint for
your belief system and all that you are. It’s the origin of your actions and
reactions.
Summer is a good time to take a moment and discover who you are. Pause
a minute. Write it down. Your legacy will nurture you and your loved ones.
Your written words will fill the holes in their hearts and the gaps in their
histories. They will know and remember you through your stories.
Today more than ever our loved ones and the world need our wisdom. If
our lives are to have lasting meaning, we must use them as a sacred
link, consciously connecting the past and the future.
Count your blessings.
wonderful Summer!
Connect.
Live large, be thankful, and have a
Thursday, June 9, is a very special meeting where we will recognize our
Past Presidents. From the Chapter’s beginning in 1957, a long line of key
professionals has helped mold and guide Houston into the largest and most
successful chapter within EWI. I encourage you to thank each of these
outstanding women personally at the meeting and get involved in your
assigned committees. You will receive an immeasurable amount of
satisfaction knowing you helped your Chapter to help your community.
In addition to recognizing our Past Presidents, we will also conduct a
business meeting. This meeting will be held to elect delegates and alternate
delegates for the annual meeting in September and to propose the slate of
officers for next year plus we have an excellent speaker whom you will not
want to miss!

Dear Theresa,
I cannot thank you enough for taking care of my Wells Fargo table at the dinner
meeting on April 14th. When I called you Wednesday morning, April 13th, and let you
know that I had a death in the family and that I would need to leave Thursday to be
with my sister in Dallas, all you said was “I’ll take care of it.” It was a comfort to me to
know that my guests would be well taken care of.
Thank you for all that you do for EWI.

MAY MEETING RECAP
Submitted by David Jones, 2015-2016 Communications Committee Member, representing D. Jones Photography
Our 2015-2016 President, Linda Petticrew, representing Shell
Energy Resources, opened the evening by thanking John
Daugherty, Realtors (JDR) for hosting this firm night at Maggiano’s
Little Italy in the Galleria area and extended a warm welcome to
the executives and guests in attendance. She began with her “This
Day in History” facts that have become a fun way to start off the
evening. Most notably mentioned was that on this day in 1935
Alcoholics Anonymous was founded which was greeted by a round
of laughter and “Cheers” was heard from
several tables!
Shari Schiffman with John Daugherty, Realtors greeted and thanked
everyone for attending and introduced her table of JDR employees in
attendance. She shared a quick welcome video from her executive,
Cheri Fama, who could not attend due to her daughter’s graduation from
Baylor.
Carole Pitts then thanked everyone for attending and advised that John Daugherty had planned
on doing an introductory video. However, the day of the shoot he was not feeling well and
sounded like a frog! Therefore Carole read his speech to the audience. John stated that while he
regretted that he and Cheri Fama could not be in attendance, we were in the good hands of
Debbie Youens who was going to speak on behalf of the company. Daugherty went on to say that,
“All of us are proud to a part of EWI. I have always believed in giving back to our community and
EWI shares that belief.”
Carole then introduced Debbie who is a sales manager for John Daugherty, Realtors. She is
relatively new joining the company in November 2014 but quickly fit right in with her strong level of
customer service, a must within the company. Debbie took the podium and stated “Hi, so you get
me . . . and I’m the one who you never know what they are going to say. So they should be
concerned!”
She told us that real estate is now global and at your fingertips.
JDR is part of a global affiliation of 600 premiere real estate
firms, 4000 offices with over 120 sales associates in 40
countries. Luxury Portfolio is also an exclusive branch featuring
million dollar plus properties in its 200 member network. Also
Mayfair International Realty, an actual brick and mortar store
located in London. John is a native Houstonian and started the
company 49 years and two months ago. Back then you did not
take classes or exams to become a Realtor, you just went
down and bought a license. He decided to start a business in a
real estate office where professionals were key. He wanted to make sure that the managers were
not working against the company’s agents. They pride themselves on the training that they offer
and have trained many of the Realtors that are in the market today. Thank goodness we live in

Houston. Housing is affordable and our market had continued to boom despite fluctuations in the
economy. JDR has experienced the best April in over 49 years in existence. She shared some stats
from the past year. JDR is inHouston, but we also go to all four corners of the globe. A JDR promo
was then played which ran before each episode of Downton Abbey’s last season.
The invocation was provided by Sara Waguespack with John Daugherty, Realtors.
Guests dined family style with a great assortment of delicious Italian fare and as an
extra added bonus, Maggiano’s provided every guest with a $10 gift card towards a
future visit.
