Project 1218 Announcement
New Blackwater Bayou Bridge Opens to Traffic Ahead of Schedule
On March 24th, the Louisiana Department of
Transportation and Development announced that the Blackwater Bayou Bridge
along La. 410 in East Baton Rouge Parish is
nearing completion and opened to traffic 22
days ahead of schedule.
Construction work on the $1.4 million project, which began in September 2015, removed the old timber Blackwater Bayou
Bridge and replaced it with a concrete
bridge with improved drainage. The roadway
on each side of the bridge was also replaced. While the new bridge is now open to traffic, workers
will continue to be present to install permanent striping, clean up construction equipment, and
make other non-travel related adjustments to drainage.
Project 1210 Credited for DOTD Receiving Award
DOTD representatives approached Craig McFerrin on
Job 1210 to let him know they had received a Work
Zone Excellence Award. The DOTD gave credit to
Craig’s and the 1210 team for providing excellent traffic
control throughout the project.

In continuing with our efforts to provide training based upon employee feedback from the safety perception survey (Travelers Safety View®) we conducted in late 2014, the final portion of this curriculum will
concentrate on incident prevention topics such as post-injury management, accident analysis, and economics of safety. Once our employees complete the 9 modules, they will receive the Travelers Supervisor Leadership Development Workshop Certification which is good for CEU credits. The third, and final
session for this workshop in scheduled for May 18 & 19, 2016.

Focus on Education
GCC Employees in the Classroom!
In July of last year, GCC partnered with Central Louisiana Community Technical College (CLTCC) to develop
and facilitate continuing education programs through an Incumbent Worker Training Grant (IWTP). A program
that is now offered through CLTCC is the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Program. In October of last year,
the first GCC employees graduated from the program.
We are very pleased to announce that since that time, CLTCC has purchased a new state-of-the art truck driving simulator for the CDL program. A link below provides additional information on the simulator and the contribution that GCC made toward the acquisition.

Even more exciting is that GCC has two employee-students,
Terry Hammond and Gabriel Jeane, who began the CDL program last week. Thanks to these GCC employees and their
managers, Greg Hagar and Ryan Hazelton, for participating
and also supporting our continuing education programs.
Once Terry and Gabriel complete the program, these employees
will return to their respective crews with enhanced SKA's and
Commercial Driving credentials!
