2010 Migliore
2010 Migliore Reserve
The 2010 Migliore included in this shipment is the result of inspiration I received several years ago while in Venice, Italy. I was
having dinner in a wonderful restaurant, slightly re-moved from
the more touristy areas, and was studying the wine list for something to accompany my venetian cuisine. I asked my server to
suggest a wine that was typical of the nearby wine regions,
Veneto and Friuli. The wine I received was a wonderful red blend
of Refosco and Cabernet. I was so impressed by the structure and
depth of the wine, while also being light and lively, that I decided
that my Migliore needed to emulate this style of wine…to a point.
The catch is, I just can’t help adding other varietals if they’ll
improve the wine. The Refosco-Cab blend I put together for the
Migliore just didn’t have the color I wanted, so I resorted to
an old Greek favorite, brought to Southern Italy in ancient times Aglianico. It’s renowned for its color and tannins, so it seemed the
perfect match. After a few blending trials I couldn’t help but put
a significant quantity in to finish out the blend!
Enjoy with your favorite Italian dishes. Oh, and on a final note, if
you’re wondering about the small amounts of Petite Verdot and
Cabernet Franc: they are small components I used to top the
Cabernet with before I blended the Migliore. I use Petite Verdot to
increase color and acidity, and the Cab Franc to boost structure
and complexity.
