She helped to bring out the best in me and, today, I am proud of myself. – Tam Lmals-Rekr Mrs Margaret Bailey (principal), Mrs Goodall, Mrs Reid, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Garrick, Mr Johnson, among other teachers, all taught me at Rollington Town Primary School. These teachers have not only taught me in school, but they have impacted my life to this very day. I am blessed to have met these people and, today, I am proud to say thank you. I salute you all. – Tamara Graham The teacher who impacted my life the most during my school years, in the 1970s, was Mr Morrison of the then Steer Town All-Age in St Ann. He was a great example of what a teacher should be. Tasheka Davis KINGSTON HIGH Patricia Bigby BALACLAVA HIGH – Erica McBean White Mr Wilson (mathematics) and Mrs Ferguson from Jonathan Grant High School: I never liked maths and he made it simple for us. Mrs Ferguson is an influential teacher; she understands her students and gets the best out of us. – Dainty Palmer Well, there was the late Ms Lewis and Mrs Smalling from Mountainside Primary in St. Elizabeth. Those teachers took selflessness to another level. I am what I am today because of their dedication. – Subrena Martin – Mahoney Ennis Dionne Davis MUSCHETT HIGH Ms Dionne Davis is a teacher of the Muschett High School in Trelawny. She was and is always there for me. She is a teacher, a friend, a motivator and she is my role model. She is the mom I never had. – Rushy Shortitude Stacey-Ann Baugh ALPHA ACADEMY Mr Anthony Meredith of Epworth All-Age in St Ann. He wasn’t just the principal. He was a father figure to many, a disciplinarian, and someone who made sure we all learned. His values still remain with me to this day. – Phyllis Sicard-Muthra Madame Castro, formerly of Merl Grove High, was a great motivator, a great listener, full of compassion, a woman of God who not only impressed students with her intellect, but by encouraging all her students to be better. – Ann Harvey Mrs Carmen Miller of Meadowbrook Prep had a passion for children which I adopted. She told me I have leadership qualities which pushed me in the field of earlychildhood education. – Kerri-Ann Bacchas-Atkinson Faith Linton of St Hilda’s Diocesan High School: I have never met another teacher who epitomises fairness, integrity, consistency and devotion. Everyone in her class was her pet, and received discipline, reprimand, rebuke, encouragement and approbation in equal measure as was necessary. – Bryan Paulette Mrs Johnson, at Four Paths Primary School in Clarendon, is an educator who has shaped my life in so many positive ways. She was the driving force in my life. Mrs Johnson helped me to be the person I am today. – Arlene O’Connor Ophelia Haughton, Cambridge Infant School, a teacher who goes the extra mile to ensure her students are well rounded and that they have a good foundation on which to grow. – Trudi Smith Hyacynth Miller ARDENNE HIGH Madame N’Dalla WOLMER’S GIRLS Madame N’Dalla helped to keep French alive for me at Wolmer’s Girls’ School. I remember, for detention, she made us do a French paper until we got everything right. – Jamila Lindsay Ms Stephanie Darby of Merl Grove High was always encouraging me that no matter what your family life was, you can always surpass the negative energy and be successful. – Stephanie Bannick – Ava Brown Ms Maxine Edwards at the HEART Trust/ NTA, Petersfield, Westmoreland is a wonderful teacher with great teaching skills. – Kimmy British Campbell – Channie Boo Mrs Taylor and Ms Johnson at St Elizabeth Technical High School are great teachers. HEART TRUST/NTA, PETERSFIELD, WESTMORELAND Big up all teachers from Alpha Academy, especially Mr Supria, Ms Parker, Mr Williams, Mr Powell, Ms Baugh, Ms Herar! Love you all because you helped to lead me in the right direction. I am forever grateful. Mr Brown of Cumberland High School (religious education ) and Mrs Burke of Eltham High (science) both had a huge impact on my studies and getting the right mindset on the whole working world, with a good education. – Nicola Pringle Maxine Edwards ALPHA ACADEMY CUMBERLAND HIGH Ms Daley and Mrs KeppleGreen from Bellefield in Manchester. Overall, they are loving and caring, yet strict teachers. Mrs Nedricks of Holmwood Technical High impacted my life. She moulded, inspired and motivated me into the person I am today. She taught me that I could do it. – Lorna Smith-Wilson Takeisha ParkerWilliams Dave Brown A5 jamaicagleaner • FEATURE Ms Hyacynth Miller of Ardenne High: an educator who taught with passion and always had her students’ best interest at heart. – Sheree-Ann Latoya Mr Courtney Lewis of Waterford Primary School: He challenged me like no other teacher ever could. I hated school, mostly because I didn’t understand most of the work. He took a personal interest in my education and sort of adopted me. – Coleen Dillion Mr Burrell of St Anne’s Secondary School and Mrs Jackson, drama teacher: They always push students and encourage us to do our best. – Marlene Brown Mrs Janet VallentineCampbell at Oberlin High was Dorrset Taylor FROME TECHNICAL HIGH Mrs Taylor taught English language at Frome Technical High School in Westmoreland; a very nice person in general. – Amoy Jones These teachers at Edith Dalton James High, then Secondary, have changed my life and I am forever grateful. Mr Groves, for assisting me to get a second chance in completing my education. Mrs Nugent, who always believed in me, even when I did not believe in myself. – Una Joy Watson Hazle Continued on A6
