Upper Holloway Bridge replacement
Scope:
Replace the bridge's deck, which sits beneath the
road, and strengthen the abutments that support the
bridge from below.
An additional bridge will carry utilities.
Work has begun and the project will be completed by
2017.
The A1 Holloway Road bridge
replacement is part of the Road
Modernisation Plan
Benefits:
• A new parapet wall along the edge
of the road bridge will improve
safety for road and rail users.
• Fewer maintenance closures will
be required as the life span of the
road bridge will have been
increased.
• Utilities moved to a separate new
bridge will significantly reduce
disruption to pedestrians and
traffic when utility works are
needed.
