Pate Wins 2nd CBA Title
36 bowlers participated in the CBA Year End tournament. To be eligible, they must have entered in a
minimum of 4 CBA tournaments, including the Baker Doubles and the Minnesota Team Challenge. The Year
End tournament has a 1:2 cashing ratio and had $2,700 of added money from entries throughout the 201516 season. Congratulations to Chad Nelson for his 300 in game 6 of qualifying, Nick pate for his 300 in game
4 of qualifying and his 813 games 4-5-6, and to Dan Bock for his 813 games 1-2-3 of qualifying.
After 10 games of qualifying on Saturday, Chad Nelson was the high qualifier at +404. The top 12 advanced to match play, and the cut score was Tom Corbett at +185. We cashed the top 18, and the last cashing score was Clark Poelzer at +137.
Sundays match play was a round robin, 12 game format. After match play, Nick Pate (+644) was the
#1 seed, followed by Matt McNiel (+532), Chad Nelson (+471), Dan Bock (+295) and Matt Paine (+287) rounding out the top 5 step ladder.
Match 1 seeded Paine vs. Bock. After an early open by Bock, Paine had an early 30+ pin lead. After a
few spares and a split by Paine and a double by Bock, the gap was down to only 10 in the 8th. Both bowlers
could only manage staying even after that, and the final was a 10 pin difference, Paine over Bock, 201-191.
Paine advanced to meet the #3 seed Chad Nelson. 3 splits in the first 5 frames by Nelson let Paine
cruise through match 2, with a late 5 bagger giving Paine a 226-169 victory.
Next up for Paine would be Matt McNiel. Although McNiel had a pretty good look to start the match,
Paine set the tone of the match early with the front 8 and cruised to another victory, 257-201.
The Championship match was Paine vs. #1 seed Nick Pate. Paine had 2 splits late in the game, while
Pate started with the front 4 and struck out the 10th to seal the deal, 239-188, winning his 2nd CBA title.
