INTRODUCTION TO EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT
OF PATIENTS WITH VESTIBULAR DISORDERS
It is estimated that about 40% of indivduals experience vertigo or dizziness at some point in their lives.
Dizziness of vestibular origin represents the largest group seeking advice for dizziness in the health care system.
In 2015 the Norwegian Social Security system (NAV) paid the sum of NOK 470 million (around 45 million Euros)
in sickness benefits to compensate for loss of income for these patients.
Patients with dizziness may represent a challenge to healthcare
workers, especially when dizziness is a persistent complaint.
Most patients with a vestibular disorder compensate
adequately, but for some dizziness persists and influence
all aspects of life.
