DOWNTOWN PULASKI
QUILT SHOW & WALKING TOUR
ALL MONTH
March is National Quilting Month, and our local Quirky Quilters are celebrating big!
Beginning at the Giles County Public Library, enjoy a walk around Historic Downtown Pulaski to see
almost two hundred quilts of various patterns, designs, fabrics and ERA’s.
SATURDAY, MARCH 19 9AM-2PM
Join us March 19th for a special edition of the Quilt Show
and Walking Tour as we celebrate Worldwide Quilting Day! Area quilters are taking over the Giles
County Chamber office for an exhibition of the history and stages of quilting. The demonstration will
include cutting fabric with today’s new tools, piecing or sewing the fabrics into quilt blocks, and finally assembling a quilt. There will also be a vintage wooden quilt frame set up with a few HAND QUILTERS working on a quilt, just like our grandmothers would have done.

Parent Advisory Council—I have the honor of serving on the 2016-17 Parent Advisory Council for the
Tennessee Department of Education. It is with great pleasure that I represent our school system personally as a
parent, as well as professionally from
a community prospective. Altogether, I feel it is imperative that we support our educators as they adapt to
the changing educational environment and appreciate the opportunity
to open communication between
our state officials and local boots on
the ground.
One major conversation occurring is
the transition from the pencil/paper
TCAP test to an online TNReady
test. You may be aware that the platform awarded the bid for this test
did not perform sufficiently. Now,
the schools are responsible for administering a paper TNReady test. This situation has instigated many concerns,
prompting the department to create the parent handbook attached. Tools such as this allow parents to be fully
educated on the purpose and procedures of TNReady. I hope you will review it and contact me with your feedback. I will be generating the comments for a response to this Council.
Change is inevitable. Growing through change is tough. I believe everyone, parent or not, should be active in education to help our educators reach their goals. It is imperative that we deepen our roots in education and encourage our educators in order to grow Giles County. —Jessie
