HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS II 2016 Summer Vacation is synonymous with fun, frolic, getting up late in he morning, playing for longer hours with friends, visiting grand parents ,going for outings, exploring new places and watching fun filled shows on television. But dear children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacations more interesting, meaning full and full of fun; along with doing all your heart desires. Here is a “Summer vacation Activity Treasure Box” just for you. It will surely mould you for a better and successful forthcoming year. So get ready for your treasure hunt. Few guidelines for your parents to make your long summer break fruitful. Dear Parents Develop time management skill in your child . The best way to nuture your child is to combine learning process with play and fun.So while weekends can be NO WORK DAY, on weekdays please ensure the child spends atleast two hours in finishing the homework. You can help your ward, however in no case you should complete his work. Lets make a timetable and learn to balance work and play so that they can complete the given homework well in time and to the best of quality. 1. “Knowledge is Power”. Therefore encourage your child to cultivate the reading habit because it not only enhances the acquired knowledge but also develops the vocabulary, language skills and improves spellings. And also read to your child because it builds reading skills and increases his/her attention span. 2. “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body”. Encourage your child to go out and play because sports instill discipline, generate sporting spirits, channelize energies constructively. 3. Communication skills play a pivotal role in grooming the overall personality of the children. Converse with your child preferably in English to help him / her get comfortable with the language. Encourage your child to read children’s magazines like Tintin ,Chandamama, etc. 4. Spend quality time with your child engaging him / her in activities based on enhancing his / her powers of observation and imagination. 5. Encourage your child to play board games e.g. Chess, Ludo, Carrom , Scrabble etc. 6. Sensitize your child about the rich culture and heritage by watching different informative channels like ‘The National Geographic’, Animal Planet etc. 7. Give a daily task to your child eg. Laying dining table, cleaning of room , setting his/ her cupboard, watering plants , arranging books & toys, making any summer drink etc . This would help in developing a sense of responsibility towards family and home. 1 HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS II 2016 General Instructions: 1) Do all the written work of English, Hindi, Maths in 3-in -1 notebook & EVS in scrapbook or file in neat handwriting . 2) As Mahatma Gandhi Ji said, ”I saw that bad handwriting should be regarded as a sign of an imperfect education”. So dear Blossomites, let’s work on our handwriting during these vacations. Please finish your work in legible and neat handwriting. Stress to be laid on formation of letters. 3) Cover and decorate homework notebooks and scrapbooks. 4) The daily routine calendar as given in holidays homework should be pasted at the beginning of your homework notebook. 5) Follow the instructions carefully. 6) Follow the pattern as per done in subject notebooks. TALENT HUNT COMPETITION First round of Talent Hunt Competition will be organized in the third week of July. Categories 1. Music : Vocal ( Western / semi Classical/ classical) 2. Dance: Classical / Folk/ Western 3. Mimicry/ Mono-acting Rules & Regulations: 1. Any indecent lyrics / dialogues won't be accepted. 2. Time limit : 2-3 minutes. 3. In case of dance performance, CD should contain only that song / music on which the child will be performing. 4. It should be a solo performance. 5. Child will perform only in school uniform. 6. Shortlisted students will be called for the final round of Talent Hunt Competition Kindly note that – • School shall reopen on July 11, 2016 with regular timings. • To facilitate the teachers for checking of holidays homework thorougly , submit the homework by July 7 , 2016 at Urban Estate branch . Please submit the stories along with the holiday homework. The child will be asked to share the story will the rest of the class after the vacations. Please note that the child should tell the story in his own words and use the pictures in the submitted story for reference. FA 2 Assessment will be based on this discussion. 2. Reading Calendar: Fill the Reading Calendar provided along with the holiday homework. For eg: If you read pages 2 & 3 of the story book on June 1, fill it in the calendar. On June 2, you may read an article from the newspaper or next page of the story book. Most Avid Readers will be awarded. 3. Creative Writing:Write few sentences in paragraph form on any two of the given topics. a. My favourite game/sport b. My first day in class II c. My favourite fruit/vegetable d. How I am spending my summer holidays. 4. Read and Practice: Read chapters 1 and 2 of Literature Reader & pick out e. Proper nouns & common nouns f. Action words 5. Let s build some words: Write 5 JUMBO WORDS (words with at least 10 letters). Try to make as many as 3,4,5,6.....letter words. e.g. RHINOCEROS (Nose, Chin, Scene, Score..... ) 6. Make senten es interesting …… You have learned how to make sentence interesting by adding describing words. Enjoy playing sentence making game with your parents. Eg : I saw a man. I saw a tall man.
