LSPBC members Bill Duke and
John Nguyen were given top ten honors for their qualifying efforts. Bill’s all
out stage II Grand National qualified
in the #3 position with a 9.82. John
Nguyen’s recently built stage II Grand
National qualified for the #10 slot with
a 10.83. The event’s day started out
with a crisp light chill. Fortunately,
the sun was out, and the weather
conditions later became warm
enough for short sleeves. After battling wind and bitter cold last year,
everyone rejoiced that the forecasted
rain held off for this event. Unfortunately as usual, Noble can either
make you or break you. Both sides
suffered qualifying engine casualties.
The Buicks came out of the gate hard
winning 15 out of the first 20 races.
The Fords came back near the end,
but; it was too little too late. The
Buicks came out on top 39 wins to
the Ford’s 35 wins. More pictures of
this event can be found inside this
issue of Quick Times.

A Word From the President
A Word From the Vice President
Let me first say that I have been pleased to
serve as your LSPBC president in 2004. I
think that it has been a very successful
year, and; that we are set to have another
great year in 2005. The show and race
events have given our members something
to remember and look forward to in the
coming year. It is my hope that even more
of you will be able to participate in all that the club will offer
in 2005. The car shows at Chucks, the drag races at Redline, the club picnic at the Malouf Ranch, the Brand X
Bash, the Ewing Buick show, the bowling at the Main
Event, the Speedzone event, the Bass Pro event, the dyno
event and the Christmas party have all been a challenge for
our officers and volunteers. I greatly appreciate everyone
who has worked so hard to make these things possible this
year. We could not have done it without you. As we look
ahead to 2005, remember that the elections are in progress
for next year’s leaders. As always, we are open for suggestions to make our club’s organization better for everyone. I will be happy to serve our club again in 2005 if you
choose to re-elect me to office. Either way, I am sure that
our newly elected leaders will continue in a direction that
makes LSPBC an organization to be proud of.
Well I can say is it's been a hell of a year
and I hope everyone agrees. There has
been a Buick club event / activity on just
about every weekend this year. That is
what I love about the Buick family. They
are always giving back to the family. Here
is just a recap on some of the events we
have had this year. Of course we had our
monthly events, the car shows at Chucks and our racing
program at Redline. The Brand X Bash in Temple at Little
River Dragway that brought out a great showing of Texas
Buicks. LSPBC member Tom Malouf hosted our annual
picnic at his beautiful ranch. You missed out on some
great food and fun if you were not there! There was also
the Annual Buick Bash at EJ Howe's place in Conroe. This
was a blast, and the burnout contest was a must see event!
We had our annual show at Ewing Buick in Plano (Great
show good food). We did a bowling event this year
WOW!
Who has Buick balls? <grin>.
Speedzone, Speedzone, Speedzone, we got to beat on someone
else's cars for a change. The 1st ever club paid Dyno
event was at A&S in Keller, TX. We had 25 vehicles show
up and dyno that day! The Bass Pro Shops car show in
Grapevine had a good turnout. There were over 30 members and 18 cars in attendance! Our annual trip to Noble in
late Oct. helped the OK boys beat up on the Fords. And
finally, congratulations to our winners in the car show and
drag race points battles. I look forward to joining each of
you in 2005. I’ll see you at the other end.

to put on some “dogs”. You could not have asked for a
better show than the one that the entire Malouf family put
on for the club. Many thanks.

The members had it “made in the shade” to relax, enjoy the

for a more beautiful day to have a picnic.

David Newton qualified well but, unfortunately broke before
the final event.
Because of a fairly good track temperature, a wheels up
launch was not uncommon for stage II Buicks during
qualifying.
Patrick Smith has been running hard all year but unfortunately fell to the Noble engine gremlins as well.
There were also several sweet Buick GS’s and GSX’s out
racing.

LSPBC Drag Racing Series
Congratulations to our points winners in our 1st annual
LSPBC drag racing series! It was a great year of racing in
2004. The competitors were battling it out to the bitter end
in a fight for the first place prize and bragging rights. After
continuous postponements due to weather and construction delays, the unbelievable happened. In a last minute
strive for fairness, David Newton secured our final race at
Texas Raceway in Kennedale Texas. Rick Kinworthy who
had led the points battle for most of the season retained a
slim margin over second place Cody Copeland. Rick went
out in the first round of competition leaving the door open
for Cody to gain points. Cody would need to win the last
event to make up the points gap. And that’s exactly what
he did. In a cruel twist of fate though, the small car count
provided just enough rounds to result in a points tie between the two drivers. Due to the lack of time and deteriorating weather conditions, the two drivers decided that they
would split the prize money for first and second place
evenly. Third place honors will be given to Victor Segovia
who fought off challengers David Newton and Danny
Oviedo. It looks like the bragging rights will have to be settled next year. Thanks to all who participated this year and
made this event possible. Special thanks goes to Jerry
Goss, manager of Redline Raceway for hosting
our monthly racing events the last two years. Our
race directors have done a great job this year coordinating these events.

We look forward to seeing each of you there!

LSPBC President Rick Kinworthy wins his round with a nice
12.10 at Noble against the Ford Mustang who discarded it’s
driveshaft just past the starting line.
LSPBC Webmaster Daniel Oviedo runs a nice 11.98 to win
his round against the Ford Lightning’s 12.50.
There was plenty of burgers, chicken and hot dogs for the
LSPBC fans to take a break from racing and eat.
Many of the Buick racers decided to meet up at the Love’s
truck stop. The resulting “train of Buicks” was a sight to
see going down the highway.

I apologize in advance if I missed anyone or I made a mistake on your numbers, it was hard to keep
up when I was working on my car. Thanks
We had 25 cars make it out today some with 4-5 pulls each. The guys at A&S were
AWESOME! They worked their A$$e$ off taking care of us and our cars on the dyno.
They even made available their lift and a tool or two when needed. Job well done guys! I
would guess that about 60 people overall came by. Some came early and made their
pulls and left. Others came late and got there pulls in also. No one was left out and everyone that wanted a pull got one. Thanks to Scott Whitehorn Owner of A&S and to his
crew. Thanks to fellow club member Rob Downey for hooking up the club with A&S, and;
thanks to all of the members that showed up to support this event, there would not be a
club without you! I Don't know what else to say here boys and girls, but; I had a blast.

Good Luck!
A Quick Note From David Newton
Now that '04 is just about gone I thought we would take a moment and look into the future just a bit to get some feedback
from you our club member. As most of you know the race program and the show program for '04 evolved into more than
just a show and a race by adding the point system. I think that worked out pretty well, but; maybe for ‘05 you have some
ideas on making it better? I have a couple of ideas that I would like to share. On the Car Shows maybe have more than
one points winner at the end? Pay more places? Split up the LSPBC class? Maybe GS & GN or maybe by year '79 &
older Buick and 80's & newer Buick? Your thoughts? I don't know that I would change anything on the Race program, but
I'm all ears? Maybe change how we award points? Places paid? Be at the Xmas Party and let your voice be heard! We
will be electing new Officers for '05 and discussing new and old business. We had a great year in '04 so let's make '05 better. See you at the Xmas party!

Where To Get Wholesale GM Parts
I trade with Lance Dirksen (Parts Department) at Don Snell
Buick on Central Expressway and Royal Lane in Dallas
(214-363-7251). Lance, and his co-worker Jesse Calame,
have known a number of the club members for many years.
In fact, Jesse used to do heavy duty wrench work on the
GS’s many years ago. Jesse has since left about a year
ago due to his wife’s illness, but; Lance continues on. I
recently spoke with Lance and he will give wholesale pricing to any LSPBC club member. Additionally, he is able to
look up and get parts for any GM car or truck product. He
is knowledgeable and always helpful.

There was plenty of pizza and salad for all as we took a
break for lunch and to hold a club meeting.
David Newton says “you’re going down this time!” while
racing one of Speedzone’s notorious propane dragsters.
On the behalf of the LSPBC I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday
season and a happy new year! See you in 2005!
