The Trinitarian - Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, New Rochelle
The Trinitarian Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 10 Mill RO.ld, New Rochelle, Nev.· York, 10804 Summer Edition, 2010 Graduates Edition, 2010 My Good Graduates, Each year our Community dedicates the summer edition of the Trinitarian to the High School and College graduates of the parish. If you look into the center pages of the Trill you will see your pictures, your parent's names and a brief description of the school you finished as well as your plans for September. I always look forward, through the Graduates Edition, to offer an a few words to you upon this great accomplishment. I imagine, my good graduates, that you heard great words of congratulations from Principals, Deans, Valedictorians and most especially your parents on the auspicious day of your graduation. Might you allow your Church to offer, not only her congratulations, yet even a few more words, thoughts and prayers, to get you through the next stages of your life; be it higher education or entrance into the work force? The Rev. Dr. Frank Marangos, Dean and Pastor of our Archdiocesan Cathedral in Manhattan wrote an article in the May Orthodox Observer entitled; Are you Religious, Spiritual or." None ofthe A hove? He quoted a statistic from the American Rei igious Identification Survey revealing thut the fastest growing religious groups ill America are those that regard themselves as spiritual yet not religious. Th is uneasy statistic I'm sure also affects Greek and Eastern Orthodox young people in the United States. I hear often in my travels through the parish that many of our people say they believe in God and are sniritual. even though they don't come to church. This is somehow a difficult pill to swallow for any clergyman of any denomination seeing that the t\VO thoughts [ mentioned above are very connected: spirituality and religiosity. I hope the Orthodox Church, her Holy Services and Sacraments as well as her preaching of the Gospel inspire you to be both spiritual and religious ", faithful and practicing! I would be doing you a disservice if [ ever pass the message that you can be a complete Orthodox Christian by simply believing ... and not practicing your Faith through love and good works. Even spirituality needs knowledge of Faith. We need to know Our Shepherd and Lord Jesus Christ, hear His Voice and understand His Words in a society that has a million so called "spiritualists" that come into our lives. Knowing and following Jesus Christ as our Spiritual and Religious Father does make our path a bit narrow and rocky but, promises us that He will never leave us alone in our struggles. My good graduates: hear the word of God through Jesus Christ " ..please don', be swayed by the winds of social pressures " ..social .. networks" ". and social trend" Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow! This is an important and easy outreach. There is nothing more fulfilling than cooking a warm meal for those who otherwise might go without. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped cook and clean. And once again, thank you Georgia Lyras and Linda Kondos, the kitchen smelled fabulous! We hope to continue cooking for the Hope Soup Kitchen in the fall so please keep an eye out for signup information. May zs" we participated in the Emmaus House Soup Run. Going on a soup run is a very humbling experience and for most of us it is stepping out side of our comfort zone. I encourage all to volunteer. If you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions please contact Despina Kartson at 914-779-5543 or [email protected]. We hope to participate in the soup run on a monthly basis. Our Community Food Drive ended on a high note. This year we collected 3500 cans of food! Thank you to all who bring food each week and a special thank you to the Sunday School students for all their help. Please note that we continue to collect food through the summer. June came very quickly and on June 12th we had our Name Day Dance "The First Summer Wave" and what a dance! For those of you unable to attend you WOUldn't have recognized the Church Hall, it looked FABULOUS and the food DELICIOUS and the music GREAT. Thank you Maria Valliades, Maria Komodikis and your committee for all your hard work. The night was wonderful. And, June 23rd was our "End of Year General Meeting Thank You Dinner". What more can I say except thank you to all the members and friends of the Philoptochos for your ideas, support and hard work! Happy summer everybody!
