Things
to
know...
Job opportunities are expected to be excellent for
experienced workers.
Houses, apartments, factories, offices, schools, roads,
and bridges are only some of the products of the
construction industry.
Construction offers more opportunities than most other
industries for individuals who want to own and run their
own businesses.
People with many different talents and educational
backgrounds find job opportunities in the construction
industry, such as managers, clerical workers, skilled
crafts workers, semiskilled workers and laborers.
Most of the workers in construction are skilled craft
workers, laborers, helpers, and apprentices who
assist more skilled workers.

Things
to
know...
Most positions require formal training and advanced
education. However, an entry-level childcare worker
can be as young as 16 years old but must have a
high school diploma.
The demand for secondary school teachers is
increasing. The strongest needs are teachers for
math, physics, chemistry, bilingual education,
special
education and computer science in inner cities
& rural areas.
Thousands of job openings are expected for
kindergarten and elementary school teachers due to
large numbers of teachers retiring and the goal to
reduce class size.

Things
to
know...
Many health care jobs require less than four years
of college, although most technical health care jobs
require at least a two-year technical degree.
A variety of post-high school programs provide
specialized training for jobs in health services.
Students preparing for health care careers can enter
programs leading to a certificate or a degree at the
associate, baccalaureate, professional, or graduate
level.
The United States is experiencing a high demand
for various levels of health care personnel, particularly non-physicians such as practical nurses,
computer coders (medical records), and clinical
documentation personnel.

Things
to
know...
Between 2002-2012, there is an expected 18%
growth rate in the hospitality industry, creating 16
million new jobs. Jobs will be plentiful for first-time
job-seekers, senior citizens, and part-time workers
with alternative schedules.
Entry-level positions in the hospitality industry are
appealing because of their flexible hours (40% of
food services/drinking places workers are employed
part-time).
The minimum requirement for many entry-level
positions in hospitality and tourism is a high-school
diploma. Most skills and training are learned
on-the-job.
Many jobs requiring vocational experience have
specialized training for skills needed in the field
(culinary, sales, travel, etc). Students can enroll in
these programs during or after high school, or
in college.
