(Alder) Tatum, a 1997 FHS graduate, was promoted to Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force on August 1, 2011. She is assigned to the 9th Maintenance Squadron, 9th Maintenance Group, 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Beale Air Force Base in California. She is currently deployed in Eastern Europe. Technical Sergeant Tatum is married and has completed 14 years of service. Her proud parents are Bill and Jan Alder of Fruitport.• 2nd annual Walk-A-Thon to be held at Shettler (Submitted by Shettler Elementary School) The second annual Walk-A-Thon is scheduled at Shettler Elementary School on Thursday, September 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each class walks for 30 minutes at a scheduled time during the day. Edgewood nights scheduled at Burger Crest By Mary Weimer The staff at Burger Crest in Fruitport invites you to enjoy a delicious meal to benefit the students at Edgewood Elementary School. Burger Crest will donate a portion of their sales between 4 and 7 p.m. to the school on selected dates. Staff members from the school will be serving the meals and cleaning up. The Fruitport High School woodworking program might be able to use them! We are looking for the following items to be donated: Indoor and outdoor paint, varnish, stain, fasteners (nails, screws, etc.), wood, plexiglass, mirrors, hardware (hinges, handles, knobs, pulls, etc.). All are needed items that will be put to good use if they are in good shape. Please keep in mind that we are only looking for items useful to our program and projects, not items that are too beaten up or worn out! Please bring them to the high school main office or contact Mr. Grimm at (231) 865-3101, extension 2141 or email [email protected].• Fifth Quarter Party supports Fruitport schools (Submitted by the Fruitport Education Foundation) You are invited to attend the annual 5th Quarter Party immediately following the Fruitport vs. DeWitt varsity football game. The event will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 from 8:30 p.m. until midnight at the Fruitport Auditorium on the corner of E. Pontaluna and Airline Road. For an admission fee of just $5.00, you will enjoy music and dancing along with food and adult beverages. (Note: You must be 21 or older to attend.) There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. The party is sponsored by the Fruitport Education Foundation, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the students of Fruitport Community Schools.• Safety Week for Fruitport Community Schools starts October 3. C M U announces May grads and honors students (Submitted by Central Michigan University) Kristina Judd received her Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in graduation ceremonies held at Central Michigan University in May.
