ITRODUCTION
Mehendi Chitrakala is now-a-days considered as modern fashion for women folk in India. It
was already popular among ladies since olden days. They use it commonly during certain
festivals and in marriage ceremonies. Usually mehendi is applied on the skin particularly in the
palms, arms, shoulders, and legs through different attractive designs. Strangely the mehendi is
an herbal product and is harmless to our body skin. It produces a desired colouration which
persists easily for few days and constantly attracts the attention of our general public. So it has
become fashion among the ladies.
Many persons particularly artists do create different designs of mehendi art to attract women
folk. Thus this chitrakala has developed a lot and many varieties of new innovative designs have
been created so far which will inspire anybody to utilize this art as his profession. Now a days
many beauty parlors have grown up by both men and women who are already engaged and
spread the popularity of mehendi art among ladies.
I am as an author of this book “MEHENDI CHITRAKALA” desire to spread the knowledge
through the simple designs of mehendi art which are to be properly planned and practiced in
order to achieve success in this profession . I particularly request the house wives to learn and
practice this mehendi art in groups and teach also to their children so that create a team of
their own to deliver expert performance at the time of mehendi celebration.I wish success to

CHAPTER-1
How to plan different designs on the palm.
In the beginning several palm sketches are to be drawn in the drawing paper .The
beginners must try to draw different types of sketches inside the palms. As we know there must
be certain planning of art designs to be sketched on the drawing paper before starting any real
mehendi chitrakala on the palm of any individual. Any art can be designed through the help of
lines, curves, square, rectangle, diamond, heart, kumbha, padma, sankha, chakra, etc for
mehendi chitrakala. So we are to plan the final design taking the help of the above shapes. For
your reference the author has provided few samples of simple designs which can be tried in the
drawing paper first before going for final mehendi work on the real palms.
The planning of the designs are shown on the palms. After you complete planning , the details
of complex paintings can be tried in the empty spaces of the palm as demonstrated in chapter
