New Auditor Signs on
Your Village Board recently
approved the FY17 budget.
Highlights of the budget include the following:
The FY 17 budget continues to curb costs while
focusing on delivering quality core services to
our customers. The overall fiscal health of your
Village is solid. In addition, our residents will
be happy to hear that since 2005 per capita debt
has decreased 72%.
Investing in Infrastructure Begins
Mokena will again be investing aggressively in street and road maintenance across the community this
summer and fall. Positive competitive bids, coupled with the Village’s
strong and sound financial position,
will make the following possible:
• Approximately 69,000 lineal feet
of roadway cracks will be routed and sealed to help
extend the life of existing asphalt pavement across
town.
• Approximately 5 miles of road will be resurfaced,
exceeding Mokena’s annual goal of 4 miles for the
Your Village Board recently approved a contract with WIPFLi
LLP to conduct Mokena’s annual
audit for the 2016 through 2020
fiscal years. To ensure that we
continue receiving a quality audit
at a competitive price, a request
for proposal was advertised upon
expiration of the previous auditing contract. In addition to submitting the lowest
submittal, WIPFLi met all Village requirements and
comes highly recommended from current clients.
Take a Look Around
Your Village Board recently approved a professional services
agreement with Strand Associates of
Joliet for an Operation and
Needs Review (ONR) for Mokena’s
wastewater treatment plant. This
review is expected to provide your elected officials
and staff with a blueprint for maintaining and
upgrading the wastewater treatment plant moving forward. In addition, Strand will assist in the
development of a facilities plan to help meet future
IEPA requirements.

Here’s the Buzz on Mosquitos and
West Nile Virus
West Nile Virus (“WNV”) is in most of the United States. Your staff is working alongside Will
County Health Dept. and Clarke Mosquito Control to prevent the transmission of WNV in our
community. For those of you concerned about the
Zika virus, visit the Will County Health Department
website at willcountyillinois.com.
Be assured
that your Village is working to limit the mosquito
population in our community by distributing
larvicide in all storm water inlets and stocking
storm water ponds with fish that eat mosquito
larvae. In addition, Clarke performs monthly
inspections and applies larvicide as needed in “hot
spots”. We urge you to take precautions to prevent
mosquito bites by following the helpful tips
below:
