OTMARO RUIZ
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, June 27th. of 1964, Otmaro started his musical studies at an early age. In 1989, Otmaro
moved to Los Angeles, training at the California Institute of the Arts (CALARTS), obtaining a Master Degree in Jazz
Performance (1993).
Otmaro has played and recorded with industry girants John McLaughlin, Steve Winwood, Tito Puente, Arturo
Sandoval, Gino Vannelli, Robbie Robertson, Dianne Reeves, Herb Alpert, Jon Anderson of YES and Frank Gambale,
to name a few.
As Composer, Arranger, Producer and Musical Conductor, Otmaro has worked for J. Walter Thompson, McCann,
ARS, VAPRO, Fischer Fineman, CORPA, Leo Burnett, and others (Products: McDonalds, Viceroy, General Electric,
Newport, General Motors, Renault, Fiat, Jeep, Lee, Wrangler, Coca-cola, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Mennen and
various film soundtracks.
Otmaro was awarded a Grammy certificate for his participation on Dianne Reeve's "In The Moment - Live in
Concert", and collaborated as co-writter / performer in Alex Acuña's Grammy nominated release "Acuarela de
Tambores." His work as a composer for the "Weston Woods Studios" childrenrelease "Chato and The Party Animals"
was awarded the "2004 Audie Awards", a CINE Golden Eagle and the Bronze Remi at the 2004 Worldfest-Houston
International Film Festival, Special Award form the Venezuelan National Artist’s Institute (for outstanding career in
a foreign country) and International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Recognition Diploma.
Otmaro currently performs with the Grammy nominated group CAB, featuring Tony MacAlpine, Bunny Brunel and
Virgil Donati.
