How to import Datavideo HDR-60 and HDR-70 Recorded

The Datavideo HDR-60 and HDR-70 recorders are hard drive based video recorders
with removable hard drive enclosure, designed for studio desktop applications. Once
you have completed your recording, simply eject the hard drive enclosure and use
USB 2.0 to connect to a PC based NLE system. The USB port provides power to the
unit. It’s perfect for use with laptops in the field.
The HDR-60/70 recorders record in .MOV or .MXF files.
For Avid Media Composer 7 for MAC: only .MOV files are supported natively. It is
recommended that you upgrade to the latest version of QuickTime.
How to import .MOV
into Avid Media Composer 7
1. Open Avid Media Composer and start a new project. Name your project and
click ‘OK’.
2. Go to the ‘Avid Media Composer’ tab. Select ‘Preferences.’
3. In the preferences window choose ‘Format’ and make sure your Project Type,
Color Space, and Dimensions match the properties of the file you recorded on
your HDR-60 or HDR-70.
4. Next you will need to create a New Bin. Go to ‘File’ and select ‘New Bin.’
Name your bin. It will appear below the preferences window.
5. Now that you have your Bin created, you are ready to import your file(s).
Right Click inside your New Bin and select ‘Import.’
6. Next, click on ‘Resolution’ and select a codec for your workflow in Avid. If you
need a starting point, you can use ‘XDCAM HD 50Mbits MXF’ which is similar
to the codec in which the .MOV files from your HDR-60/70 are created.
7. Next click ‘Options.’ It is recommended you change the ‘File Pixel to Video
Mapping’ setting to ‘601 SD or 709 HD’ if your project is intended for
Broadcast. You can select ‘Computer RGB’ for multimedia projects.
8. Confirm all of your settings. Select your file(s) and click ‘Open.’
9. Next, Avid Media Composer 7 will import your file. The encoding time will vary
based on the performance of your computer, the project settings of your
workflow, and the size of your files.
10. When Media Composer is done importing your file(s), you will be able to
select from your bin. You can then drag your files into the timeline and start
editing.
*Currently, .MXF files from the HDR-60 and HDR-70 recorders are not
supported natively in Avid Media Composer 7 for MAC.
