EXALTED RULER’S MESSAGE
Well, here we are again, the winter season has come to an end. We also come to
the close of the 2010-2011 Elk year. On March 26th, we had an informal meeting
with some of the Lodge Officers and committee chair people. At that time, I
thanked all present for their service and their many accomplishments and I would
now like to take this opportunity to thank those who could not attend. Once again, I
applaud all of their efforts. These people are what make our Lodge such a success.
Our disappointments of the year were few, mostly the loss of our cherished
Members. It would be remiss of me not to mention the latest of them, Mike Brady.
Lou Sottnick, Exalted Ruler
On March 24th, Mike passed away after a grueling battle with cancer. Our prayers
and thoughts go out to his wife Delores and his family. It goes without saying that those of us who knew Mike
and worked with him in the Lodge will miss him dearly.
Now on a more positive note, let me tell you about our building expansion plans and where we stand. We are
moving forward with the relocation of the Lodge kitchen. This will take the approval of the membership and I
will be reading a letter at the Lodge meeting on April 14th detailing this part of our plan. This letter will then be
mailed to each Member for review. You will be given the opportunity to approve this part of the plan with a vote
that will take place at the Lodge meeting on April 28th, which is an Elk procedure that we are compelled to
follow. A vote to complete this part of the project will enable us to move closer to the ultimate goal of Lodge
expansion, our new 2nd floor, which the building committee believes is more possible than ever.
Sincerely and fraternally, ER Lou Sottnick
LODGE OFFICERS
Secretary’s Corner
The Grand Lodge is distributing a new membership application. The format is
substantially different. Please make sure that it is completed in its entirety. Convey
to the applicant that they should submit his/her full given name and permanent
mailing address. Any application that is not properly completed and accompanied
with the $100 initiation fee will be returned to the sponsor. This will delay the
processing of the application, interview and initiation.
Please make sure that all communications for the office staff are in a sealed
envelope. It should include your name, member number and a telephone number
where you can be reached. The member drop off box is located on the wall by the
ice machine in the main bar area. The same procedure should be followed if
handing any correspondence to the bartender/barmaid. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated. Bonnie O’Kane, Secretary

Antler Room Update
Antler Room prior to concrete being poured
As of March 17, 2011, our re-construction effort on the Antler Room
continues. We have put in three-plus 2ton truckloads of base sand fill.
This fill is approximately 24 inches in depth. An additional six inches
of crushed rock (stone) fill will go on top of the sand. At the same time
we are installing sanitary and drain PVC lines. This is so that we do
not have to re-excavate in the future.
We hope to have the concrete poured in this room by the end of
March. Plans are also being submitted for installation of two new
restrooms, (his and hers) which will be accessible from the main bar
area. See comments from the ER on future recommendations for the
Antler Room area. Jim McG
Parking Lot Update
Parking lot sidewalk, apron and entrance
New concrete sidewalks and parking lot aprons have been installed. We
will have a new concrete entrance driveway, which was poured on March
15th. The next steps are installation of lighting for the parking lot area,
macadam paving and fencing of the lot.
The city repaving of Chestnut Avenue is near completion. We could not
finish some of our work until the City work was finished. All of the work
on the lot should be completed before the summer season. Parking
patterns and traffic flow within the lot will be published as soon as all is
finalized, and final approval from City authorities is obtained. The
finished parking lot will be for Elks members only while attending the
Lodge. Jim McG

Building Committee
The newsletter and website will contain
important information about the ongoing
status of construction at the Lodge. At the
regular Lodge meeting on March 10th, Bob
Schrock introduced himself and gave a background
history of what has transpired in the Antler Room since
the “great flood” and the status on the parking lot.
As the Building Committee Chairperson, Bob Schrock
has certainly been hard at work since the flood occurred.
Bob’s background is very impressive including; a BS in
Industrial Management from Rutgers University, ABS in
Electro-Mechanical Design from Temple University, a
Certificate of Mechanical-Architectural Design, and a
member of the Coalition of Civic Associations of Cape
May County.
The Lodge would like thank Bob Schrock and all those
who have been actively involved in the construction
efforts and to encourage Members to attend the regular
meetings every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. The
Lodge meetings, website and newsletter are the best way
to obtain accurate and up to date information.

By Jim Benatti, Parade Chairman
Last year was a proud year for the Greater Wildwood
Elks Lodge after winning the 1st Place Award for
“Best Lodge Float” for the first time in Lodge history.
In addition, we took 1st Place Awards in “Best Lodge
Appearance” and “Best String Band.” I wish to thank all who
participated and the entire Parade Committee. This year, the NJ Elks
State theme is “Proud to be an Elk from New Jersey.” The Greater
Wildwood Elks Lodge is the host for the NJ State Elks Parade and as
such, marches at the front of the line.
Greater Wildwood Elks Award Winning Parade Float 2010
The Parade Committee is already hard at work and plans are now
underway to make this our best year ever. In order to accomplish this, I am asking that more Members come and march
in the parade. We need you! I would appreciate as many Members participate as possible and encourage new Members to
join in as well. Show your Elk pride and enjoy a day filled with laughter and camaraderie that you won’t soon forget.
The date is Saturday, June 4th. For those who are unable to march, we have a Tram Car that goes along with the parade
float. More details with information on how to sign up will be posted in the May newsletter and on our website in the
upcoming weeks. I am proud to announce that the Middle Township Marching Band, with over 90 musical instruments,
will be accompanying us.
Our first parade event is the Bust Party that will be held on Saturday, May 14th. This fun filled night helps raise funds to
offset the cost of the parade. The theme this year is the “Roaring Twenties” with entertainment by Gary & The Kidd.
Come out and enjoy a buffet dinner, music and dancing. There will be a contest for “Best Dressed Couple”, “Best Dressed
Individual” and “Best Charleston Dancer.” Tickets will be available for purchase in the upcoming weeks. Our Bumble Bee
fundraiser will begin May 1st, see more details on page 5.
For those participating in the parade, the morning begins with a continental breakfast at the Lodge. Once the parade
march is finished, we meet back at the Lodge for an “After Parade” party, which includes food and an open bar. If you
have any questions please feel free to call me at (609) 204-0929. Thank you in advance for your support! Jim Benatti
2011 New Jersey State Elks Convention
The 98th annual New Jersey State Elks Convention, also referred to as the
NJ State Elks Reunion, will take place in Wildwood June 3rd through June 5th.
Elks from all around the state come to participate in the festivities and the
Annual Parade. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Elks and see first
hand how we work together toward the common goal of helping those in need.
Be sure to mark your calendar and be a part of an incredible weekend of
Elkdom in Wildwood.
Flag Day Ceremony
The Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge will be holding a Flag Day ceremony on Sunday, June
12th. This beautiful ceremony is conducted to pay tribute to the rich and colorful history of the
American flag and to honor our Veterans and those in the armed forces who protect our flag
and country today. Children and grandchildren are welcomed at this informative and
educational event. You need not be a Member to attend.
Elks across the nation have celebrated Flag Day every year since 1910. In 1949, late
president, Harry S. Truman, himself a member of the Elks, proclaimed June 14 as the yearly
official day for national observance. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a
nationwide organization whose membership over 13 decades has consisted of tens of millions
of America’s finest citizens. We love our country and desire to preserve its cherished
institutions and values. Please come to the Flag Day ceremony and share in this beloved
tradition.

The “Elk of the Year” Award has a great
amount of meaning. It is a way the Lodge can
recognize a Member who is always willing to
help and can be relied upon to accomplish many
tasks. The recipient of this distinguished award
truly exemplifies the motto “Elks Care – Elks Share” through
their loyalty, dedication and willingness to assist. Please come
celebrate the evening and help honor this year’s “Elk of the
Year.”
Welcome New Members
Because… “You’ll never have to stand alone in an uncaring
world around you, now that you’re a Member of the American
Elks family.”
The Lodge would like to extend a warm welcome to each of
the thirty-two new Members that were initiated on March 19th.
Thank you to all the sponsors for helping our membership grow!
Please see the Secretary’s message on page 1 for information
about the new membership applications from the Grand Lodge.

CHARITABLE GIVING
Because…The dream of a better world becomes a reality when shaped by enough willing hearts and hands.
EASTER EGG HUNT ♥ EGGS FOR SALE
During March and April, your purchase of a brightly colored honeycomb egg, proudly displayed from
the ceiling in the main bar area, will help defray the cost of the Annual Easter Egg Hunt! This year, the
event is scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd, at 12:00 noon. The location is 19th and the beach. Proudly
sponsored by the Greater Wildwood Elks, the event is free for children ages 2-12 and is one of the most
popular events of the year. Eggs may be purchased from the bartenders, or any of the “bunny helpers”
in the Lodge. As always, thank you for your support!
Bumble Bee
Clothes for M.O.M.
Special Children’s Committee will be collecting clothes throughout the month of
APRIL to benefit the Miracle on the Mountain Fund, which helps support Camp Moore.
Start saving all usable/wearable clothes, blankets, comforters, shoes, belts, stuffed
animals, pocketbooks, etc., and donate them to help the less fortunate. All items must be
in plastic garbage bags. The Lodge will be given a donation credit to Camp Moore based
on the amount of clothing collected. For more information on how you can help, please
contact John Betz at (856) 455-3429. Thanks for helping keep smiles on the faces of our
special children!
Viridian Energy Fundraiser
Viridian Energy has teamed up with the Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge
to help our members save money on electricity while raising funds for
charity. Deregulation of energy has given customers a choice of energy
suppliers creating competition and giving you the opportunity to save.
Join the over 80 Elk members who have signed up for Viridian! Service is still provided
by your current utility company and you continue to receive one bill from them each
month. There is NO enrollment fee, NO cancellation fee, and you can cancel service at
any time. A historical rate chart is published on the website to show the comparison
between Viridian and your current supplier.
Sign up today and start saving money while supporting our Elks charities. For more
information about the Viridian program, please visit www.viridian.com/elks1896 , or
contact Laura Cosmo Whitehouse at 609-729-2189 or JoAnn McDevitt at 609-729-7116.
Community Relations Raffle Fundraiser
Tickets will be arriving in the mail shortly for the annual Community Relations raffle

throughout the year to provide food and assistance to those in need. The drawing will
take place on or about May 29th with wonderful prizes, including a $2,500 travel voucher
as the top prize. Your support is key in helping the many needy families in our
community. As always, Elks Care Elks Share!

Congratulations to John Lang for being selected by
Lou Sottnick, ER, as the “Elk of the Month” for April
2011.
John was head of the House Committee for three
years, overseeing the kitchen and social quarters. As a
retired carpenter, he has performed many repairs and
installations at the Lodge. John and his wife are very
actively involved in various Lodge events. He is now
dedicating his time and talent serving as a Trustee.
Thank you John for your dedication to the Elks!
