LGBT Health Fair
United Church of Gainesville
Saturday, April 3rd
Since 1991 the United Church of Gainesville has been an
“Open and Affirming” congregation of the United Church of
Christ. In the United Church of Christ a congregation which votes
to become Open and Affirming (ONA) is saying that “it has publicly and specifically declared that those of all ‘sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions’ are welcome in
its full life and ministry (e.g. membership, leadership, employment, etc.)” At UCG, we are proud to welcome our lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender neighbors into every aspect of our lives
and leadership. The witness of the United Church of Christ on
justice issues pertaining to LGBT persons is longstanding. As a
denomination, the United Church of Christ ordained the first
openly gay pastor into a mainline Protestant denomination (in
1972), and in 2005 the national body of the UCC overwhelmingly
passed a resolution supporting same-gender marriage equality.
At the United Church of Gainesville we are working to live
out this witness of God’s love and justice, welcoming people of
all religious backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and
gender identities. As the next chapter in our Open and Affirming
ministry, we have formed an Open and Affirming Taskforce to
help our church continue to live out that identity. The taskforce
already has many events planned for the spring and fall, including
a seminar on the Bible and Homosexuality on Sunday, March 14
at 11 o’clock, a fundraiser/dance coming in March, and a Pride
service and presence at Gainesville Pride next October. UCG
welcomes you to become a part of our community, a community
in which we are coming to “accept that we are accepted,” a joyful
place where we say, “it’s not like this every Sunday.” Come and
see what we mean. Services are every Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00.
You are truly welcome.
11:00am to 3:00pm
LGBT Health Awareness Week is an
annual event sponsored by the National Coalition for LGBT Health to
raise awareness of the significant
health issues and disparities faced by
the LGBT population. It is always the
last week in March -- this year it’s
March 28th to April 3rd.
In honor of this national event, Pride
Community Center of North Central
Florida and the Lesbian Health Project will host an LGBT Health Fair on
Saturday, April 3rd at 11:00am to
3:00pm at the Pride Center, 3131
NW 13th St, in Gainesville.
The LGBT Health Fair will provide an
opportunity for attendees to become
familiar with the various health options available in our community (i.e.
massage, acupuncture, nutrition, hydrotherapy, chiropractics, mental
health therapies, etc) in order to promote good health and overall wellness. The event is free and open to
the public.
If you are a health professional and
wish to participate in this event,
please contact Jennifer at
[email protected] by March 15th.

DO YOU HAVE A
FRIEND WHO NEEDS A
GOOD FLOCKING?
You can have the great pleasure of flocking
a friend with 20 beautiful pink flamingoes.
For a $20.00 donation we will place a
frolicking flock of flamingoes in the front
yard of one of your “dear” friend’s houses.
When your flocked friend wants to remove
them from
their yard,
they call the
flocking
removal task
force and,
for a $10.00
donation, we
will remove them. “Insurance” against
another flocking can also be purchased for
a $10.00 donation. “Insurance” to block an
original flocking is a $15.00 donation.
Flamingo Flocking is a fundraiser for
Pride Community Center of North Central

First Sunday of each month at 5:00pm!
Kindred Sisters Magazine & PCCNCF are combining forces to
bring you the “Women’s Dinner & a Movie.” Join us the 1st
Sunday of each month at 5pm at the Pride Community Center.
Relax with the gals, enjoy a nice dinner, & catch a new movie -all for just $5 (to cover dinner)!
March 7: “A Village Affair”
British socialite Clodagh Unwin develops a
scandalous but irresistible attraction to
Alice, the wife of upstanding neighbor
Martin Jordan. Alice returns Clodagh's
affections, but when the village catches wind
of the affair, their love could ruin them all.
Based on the novel by Joanna Trollope.
April 4: “Kinsey”
Liam Neeson provides a fascinating portrait
of theorist and zoologist Dr. Alfred Kinsey,
whose name has been associated with
human sexuality ever since he interviewed
thousands of people about their sex lives
and released his findings in a
groundbreaking 1948 book, Sexual
Behavior in the Human Male. The book caused ripples in
the scientific community and paved the way for further
inquiry into the subject.

PCCNCF Collects for the TREE Project
The Gainesville Area AIDS Project (GAAP) provides a program for people with HIV called the TREE (The Replenishment of
Everyday Essentials) Project. This is a program to provide household products for people in Alachua County who have HIV or
AIDS and who are living on disability or food stamps. GAAP provides these essential household needs and relies exclusively on
donations of products and money from the local community. Pride Community Center of North Central Florida will be assisting
with this program by collecting items at the community center. A donation box is set-up at the center and each month the center
will be focusing on a different item and asking visitors to the center and groups that meet at the center to help out with this program by donating the requested item. These are the household items that are provided to clients: Laundry Detergent, Dish Soap,
Bleach, Shampoo, Shaving Cream, Razors, Toilet Paper, Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, and Deodorant.
The
Replenishment of
Everyday
Essentials
Project
In March/April PCCNCF will be collecting: Shampoo & Soap
If your group or organization can organize a drive or group effort to collect donations for this program, please give GAAP a call
at: 352-373-4227 or send them an e-mail at: [email protected]
