Young pro-surfer and college student Nancy (Blake Lively) is enjoying the sea just off the coast of a secluded beach known as ‘Paradise’. However, she is soon attacked an enormous great white shark in the shallows off the beach and finds refuge on an isolated rock, just 200 yards from the shoreline. With the shark still prowling and nobody around to help, Nancy must come up with a drastic plan to swim back to safety. ANTHROPOID follows the extraordinary true story of "Operation Anthropoid". Two soldiers from the Czechoslovakian army-in-exile, Josef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubi (Jamie Dornan), are parachuted into their occupied homeland in December 1941 to assassinate SS officer Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution, was the Reich's third in command and the leader of Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia. His reign of terror prompted the self-exiled Czech and Slovak soldiers to hatch a topsecret mission that would change the face of Europe forever. > Wool Week: 24 SEP - 2 OCT Rams (15) Yarn (12A) Showing in honour of Wool Week. Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Hampton's Film Festival, this beautifully shot drama focuses on two Icelandic sheep farmers whose longstanding feud comes to a head when disaster strikes their flocks. In a remote valley, estranged brothers Gummi and Kiddi live side by side tending to their prized sheep, despite not having spoken in 40 years. When a lethal disease infects Kiddi's sheep, all the animals in the area are culled to contain the outbreak. It’s a terrible blow for local farmers, but hits hard-drinking, unruly Kiddi and quiet, thoughtful Gummi particularly hard leading them to rebel against the rules in their own distinct ways. Showing in honour of Wool Week. In this visuallystriking documentary meet the artists who are redefining knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world. Reinventing and exploring our relationship with this colorful tradition that is building one of modern art's hottest trends. YARN features Brooklyn-based Polish crochet artist Olek; Icelandic wool graffiti artist Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar; Japanese Canada-based artist Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam of Net Play Works who stitches giant “textile playgrounds”; and Tilde Björfors, the founder of the contemporary Swedish circus company Cirkus Cikör. 5 > Events Peter Davis: Elemental Sharon Shannon & Band 30 JULY - 11 SEPTEMBER TUESDAY 6 SEPTEMBER, 7.30pm Bonhoga FREE Mareel £18 Sharon Shannon returns to Shetland with line up of stellar Irish musicians for an evening of high energy tunes, with a Shetland twist! Mareel FREE Mareel £20 8 > Comedy Bridget Jones’s Baby (15) Bridget Jones is back! Join her again as she enters her 40s in the third film of this romantic comedy series, featuring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant. After breaking up with Mark Darcy (Firth), Bridget Jones's (Zellweger) "happily ever after" hasn't quite gone as planned. Fortysomething and single again, she decides to focus on her job as a news producer and surround herself with her friends. Now, for once, Bridget has everything completely under control. What could possibly go wrong? David Brent: Life On The Road (15) The obnioxious boss from the cult TV show ‘The Office’ hits the big screen’. Although working as a rep selling cleaning (and ladies personal hygiene) products, David Brent hasn't given up his dream of becoming a rock star. Styling himself as singer/songwriter for fledgling rock band 'Foregone Conclusion', he assembles a group of mercenary session musicians, a talented sidekick to supply the street cred and an overpriced but underwhelmed tour manager. Together they embark upon a self-financed UK tour coming to a venue near every major city near you! Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (15) Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an advert online to find their perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister's Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, instead the brothers find themselves thoroughly outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo. Bad Moms (15) From the outside Amy (Milana Kunis) has the perfect life--happy marriage, over-achieving kids, lovely home and a successful career, but behind the scenes she's over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-worked and underappreciated moms seeking to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities. The resulting wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun and self-indulgence puts them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) and her clique of ‘perfect moms’. War Dogs (15) Based on a true story of two friends who exploited a little-known government initiative allowing small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonas Hill) begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military they get over their heads in a deal with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government. 9 > Music GORDON GUNN with Hjaltabonhoga SATURDAY 17 SEPTEMBER, 7.30pm Mareel £15 / £12 Described as 'one of the most exciting and innovative fiddle players of the times', Gordon Gunn headlines this event supported by Hjatibonhogs. Following on from the highly regarded solo album ' Shoreside', FGordons new album 'Wick to Wickham' released in 2015 features many of his compositions. He is ably supported by Hjaltibonhoga, Shetland Fiddlers of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo who have just recorded their first album due to be released later this year. More information on the group at: www.hjaltibonhoga.co.uk 10 > Family Friendly Kubo & The Two Strings (PG) Epic action-adventure from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA, set in a fantastical Japan. Kubo (Art Parkinson, Game of Thrones) lives a quiet, normal life telling stories in a small seaside village, until he accidentally summons a spirit from the past that turns his life upside down by reawakening an age-old vendetta. All manner of havoc ensues as gods and monsters chase Kubo who, in order to survive, must find the magical suit of armour once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior, and fulfil his heroic destiny. Nine Lives (PG) Tom Brand (Kevin Spacey) is an immensely successful daredevil billionaire. His company has almost completed its greatest achievement to date - the tallest skyscraper in the northern hemisphere. However, Tom's workaholic lifestyle keeps him from his family, particularly his beautiful wife Lara (Jennifer Garner) and his adoring daughter Rebecca (Malina Weissman). Rebecca's 11th birthday is here, and again she wants the gift she asks for every year, a cat. Tom hates cats, but he is without a gift and time is running out. When his GPS directs him to a mystical pet store full of odd and exotic cats, Tom’s life takes a bizarre turn which sees him trapped inside the body of the adorable Mr Fuzzypants. Can life as a cat help him reconnect with his family, and win his body back? Swallows and Amazons (PG) An exhilarating adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic children's adventure with a fresh espionage twist. The four Walker children are on a dull Lake District holiday with their mother . But when she gives them permission to sail out and camp on a remote island, the quartet find themselves at the centre of a fantastic summer adventure. On the island, they find themselves in a battle with rival group The Amazons (The Blacketts), who have also tried to claim it as their own. But things turn serious when the Blacketts' Uncle, Jim Turner is revealed to be a spy, hotly pursued by a secret agent. Asterix And Obelix: Mansion Of The Gods (PG) Fresh animated adaptation of the classic comic strip series. Our favourite plucky Gauls are still holding out against the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar (voiced by Jim Broadbent) hatches a plan to build a luxury housing complex in the nearby forest, in the hopes of crushing their resistance. Despite various attempts by Asterix (Jack Whitehall) and Obelix (Nick Frost) to halt the building process, the so-called Mansions of the Gods are soon finished, which creates an entirely different problem when the new Roman tenants arrive... Pete’s Dragon (PG) 11 Newcomer Oakes Fegley is the boy with a magical friend in this remake of the 1977 Disney favourite. Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) has heard stories of a magical dragon for years, from the mouth of her wood-carver father (Robert Redford), However, that’s all she thought they were – stories. That is, until she meets ten-year-old Pete (Fegley) who claims to live alone in the woods with a giant green dragon named Elliott. Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from and the truth about this mysterious dragon. However, a few other people have found out about this remarkable dragon and are intent on capturing it. > Music THE STRAY BIRDS WITH DANIEL MEADE & THE FLYING MULES FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER, 7.30PM Mareel £16 / £12 > Music “Green’s musical architecture is a wonder to behold” -FROOTS FLIT WEDNESDAY 2 NOVEMBER, 8pm Mareel £20 Some of today’s most influential musicians explore themes of migration through darkly atmospheric songs set within a world of breathtaking stop-motion animation. Originally a performance based concept, One More Time with Feeling evolved as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album. Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ performance of the new album are interviews and footage, accompanied by Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination. The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years is based on the early part of The Beatles’ career (19621966) –in which they toured and captured the world’s acclaim. Ron Howard’s film explores how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become this extraordinary phenomenon, “The Beatles.” It explores their inner workings – how they made decisions, created their music and built their career together – all the while, exploring The Beatles’ extraordinary and unique musical gifts and their remarkable personalities. The Rolling Stones Havana Moon (PG) The Man Who Fell to Earth 40th anniversary (18) Good Friday 25 March 2016 is a date that has gone down in Cuban and Rock ‘n’ Roll history. Havana Moon will transport cinemagoers onto and in front of the Rolling Stones gigantic stage and immerse them in the excitement of that groundbreaking night in Havana. Nic Roeg’s cult classic stars David Bowie as a humanoid alien who comes to Earth seeking help for his drought-striken planet. Bowie – an inspired piece of casting which launched his Thin White Duke persona – plays Thomas Jerome Newton who wants to use his advanced technology to ship water back home but finds himself lost in an unfamiliar, corrupt and sometimes hostile society. The Man Who Fell to Earth has been given a 4K restoration to celebrate its 40th anniversary. 17 > Music Shetland Arts presents the 2016/17 Classical Season, featuring concerts from Shetland born pianist Neil Georgeson, Mr McFall's Chamber, Hebrides Ensemble and the Dunedin Consort A package price of 3 concerts for £33 is available for this season. But this innocent teen soon finds herself out of her depth among the dead-eyed beauties in a glossy, competitive, cutthroat world fuelled by envy and desire. Even though this is a town that's renowned for consuming its young, Jesse could never imagine the grisly fate her jealous rivals are planning. One of the most controversial films screened at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, this is a moody, stylised, uncompromising cinematic nightmare from Drive and Only God Forgives director Nicolas Winding Refn. One of the most acclaimed figures in modern Japanese cinema, Naomi Kawase followed up her remarkable 2014 Still the Water with Sweet Bean [An], a smalltown drama of culinary redemption, which opened the prestigious Un Certain Regard strain of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Struggling street food vendor Sentaro finds himself confronted with Tokue, an odd but sympathetic elderly lady looking for work. When he reluctantly accepts, it’s not long before Tokue proves to have an extraordinary gift when it comes to making “an” – the sweet red bean paste filling used in his dorayakis – which starts a relationship that is about much more than just street food. Beautifully shot and quietly moving, Sweet Bean is a humble masterpiece from a singularly accomplished filmmaker.
