About Soroptimist
Soroptimist Grace
Soroptimist Pledge
For the Bread upon the Board, make
us truly thankful Lord.
For each one meeting here, whom
our hearts hold close
and dear. For this day,
O Lord above, now accept our
grateful love. Amen.
I pledge allegiance to Soroptimism and to the ideals
for which it stands. The sincerity of friendship,
the joy of achievement, the dignity of service,
the integrity of profession, the love of country.
I will put forth my greatest effort to promote, uphold and
defend these ideals for a larger fellowship in home, in
society, in business, for country and for God.
About Us
Founded in 1921, Soroptimist is an international organization for
business and professional women who provide volunteer service to
their communities. Almost 100,000 Soroptimists in about 120
countries and territories contribute time and financial support to
community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls.
Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton Area was chartered June 1, 1944 as an organization of
business and professional women working to improve the lives of women and girls in the Bremerton and
Central Kitsap communities.
The name, Soroptimist, means “best for women,” and that’s what the organization strives to achieve.
Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best.
What We Do
Soroptimists focus on a variety of educational
programs and service to their communities.
Club projects range from renovating domestic
violence shelters and providing camper scholarships and food baskets for needy families, to
providing volunteers and purchasing equipment and supplies for community organizations. Local organizations recently supported

and Bremerton Beyond Accessible Play. We
also participate in organization-wide programs
that include the Women’s Opportunity Award, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic
Violence, the Ruby Award, and the Violet Richardson Award.
Funding
Funds to support club projects and programs are raised in a
variety of ways, including but not limited to direct contributions from
the general public, partnering with Kitsap Sun and the Women Today
Show, sale of the Kitsap Card, and this event, our annual auction and
dinner gala held in the fall of each year.
OUR MISSION
To improve the lives of women and
girls in our local communities and
throughout the world.

Opportunities for Girls & Young Women
Deadline: December 1, 2013
The Ruby Award acknowledges women who are
working to improve the lives of women and girls
through their personal or professional activities. Their
efforts help to promote the issues that are important to
the Soroptimist organization.
Soroptimist is concerned with the special challenges
facing today’s girls and young women. The organization
launched the Violet Richardson Award program in 2000
as a way to recognize girls for their volunteer service to
their communities.
Honorees are women who have worked in
extraordinary ways to benefit women and girls. Examples of the type of work honored include: spearheading
an effort to open a domestic violence shelter, working
to secure health services for low-income women, or
starting a mentoring program for at-risk girls. The program enables us to thank these women and encourage
others to explore ways to assist women and girls.
The program honors young women between the ages of
14 and 17 whose volunteer efforts include: helping other
disadvantaged girls; fighting drugs, crime and violence;
cleaning up the environment; and working to end
discrimination and poverty.
Soroptimist
We wish to thank McCloud’s Grill House, especially Andy Graham and his entire staff, for working so
hard to ensure a successful event. Andy, you were an absolute joy to work with. Thank you!
The program is named after Violet Richardson Ward,
the first president of the first Soroptimist club.

Soroptimist
Dear Friends,
15
“Best for Women & Girls”
Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton has been
committed to improving the lives of women and girls through our
scholarship programs, service projects and educational
initiatives. This past year, 11 community service awards were given
through our “Together We Can” Community Impact Grant. Recipients of over $10,000 combined included: Georgia’s House, Kathleen
Sutton Inspirational Fund, Boys & Girls Club – Smart Girl Program,
Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Holly Ridge Center, Kitsap
Sexual Assault Center, Kitsap Youth Mentoring Consortium, Scarlet
Road, Stand Up For Kids and the YWCA of Kitsap County.
Over $2,000 was given through our Women’s Opportunity Award, Violet Richardson Award and Ruby
Award.
Our human trafficking awareness initiative continues to move our educational efforts and support for
ending this atrocity against women and girls.
Our volunteerism efforts extended from supporting the YWCA “Take Walk in Her Shoes” event,
Women Today Show, Salvation Army Bell Ringers, and Harmony Hill Survivor’s Fair.
The passion and dedication of Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton Area members is the
reason this work is realized. The members are truly an inspiration to me.
Your generosity and support is at the center of our enthusiasm and we appreciate your time with us
here this evening. Thank you for your commitment to helping women and girls in our community.
To learn more about our club please visit our website www.bremertonsoroptimist.org or find us on

Thank you to our Fall Auction Committee and Andy Graham, proprietor of McCloud’s Grill House for
a fantastic evening.
