2012
CINCINNATI CORVETTE CLUB
Our club was formed in 1957 by a few dedicated early Corvette owners and was one of the very first Corvette
Clubs to be established. We were also one of the first to become a member of the National council of Corvette
Clubs (NCCC) which is sponsored indirectly by the Chevrolet Motor Division of GM.
We are incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Ohio and have insurance coverage provided by
the NCCC. We are sponsored by the Joseph Chevrolet Dealership who helps us financially and with major
events.
Membership has always been the most important element in keeping our club active and prosperous. We hope
that prospective members will come out to several of our events and/or meetings. Prospective members/guests
are always welcome. A membership application can be obtained from any officer and membership is official at
the payment of dues. There are several categories of dues for single, couple or family memberships.
Prospective members are required to be the primary driver and/or owner of a Corvette and they must provide
proof of adequate personal automobile insurance.
The club holds competitive events such as rallyes and auto-crosses on a regular basis. Competitive events are
open to all members and year end trophies and competitive points are awarded by finish position. Cars for autocrossing are classified according to the rules of our constitution by-laws in regard to horsepower, engine size,
modifications, etc., so that equal participation is possible. Information on competitive events is provided to all
members in advance of the event date.
Competition is encouraged in the annual Championship Points System, whereby each member is able to
accumulate event points in relation to his or her participation and finish points at each event. Those not wishing
to compete may work events and will receive points for each event worked. Members also earn points by
attending membership meetings or organizing rallyes. Top finishers receive a trophy at the end of the year.
Membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of December, which
doubles as an awards banquet, and is usually held on a Saturday night.
The social aspect is not forgotten and we have several events per year, including such events as bowling parties,
picnics, dinner get-togethers and caravans to other Corvette functions in the area. The December awards
banquet is the culmination of our competitive year, and is a well-attended social event. The NCCC holds an
annual Corvette Convention each year which is usually well-attended by club members.
Our monthly newsletter, Stingrays, is circulated to all members and contains key information on all of our events.
It also includes articles of general Corvette/automotive interest and news of related events in the area.
Officers are elected for a one-year term at the November meeting. Duties of officers are defined in our
constitution.
Being a member of a Corvette club is a lot of fun. You meet a lot of people who share your enthusiasm for
Corvettes. There are plenty of events to attend and things to do. We hope you will join the Cincinnati Corvette
Club.

Meeting Minutes of the Cincinnati Corvette Club- June
The June 12, 2012 meeting of the CCC was called to order by President, Jim Barbian at 7:03 pm. Members
present were Jim Barbian, Ron Brown, Chuck Jenkins, Linda Lake, Debbie Davis, and Denny Davis.
The May 8, 2012 minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter.
Competition – Our sanctioned events will be at Scarlet Oaks – June 17 and consist of 5 low speed events (a
total of 10 runs). Chuck displayed shirts for awards. For the picnic, the club will provide hot dogs, and chips,
and soft drinks. Chuck will bring the trailer with everything necessary and Pat will handle registration. Agreed
to meet around 8:45am the day of the event. Pat requested that we get a portapot from Rumpke for the day,
since we don’t know how many will show up for the picnic. We need everyone’s help for this event, but it is
Father’s Day, so there are bound to be conflicts.
The next sanctioned event after ours is at Kilkare on July 22.
Chuck Jenkins, Treasurer reported that we are solvent. Chuck will get the food & supplies for the picnic.
Correspondence and mail was circulated.
Governor Ron Brown reported on latest Governor’s meeting. Start planning for a hot time at 2014 convention
in Savannah, GA in August – low speed adjacent to the hotel, and high speed at Roebling Rd in Pooler, GA.
See his report elsewhere in this newsletter.
Social - The club has a new Facebook page search for Cincinnati Corvette Club – be sure and “like” it!! Pat
will let Brian know what code is needed on our website homepage for linking to Facebook.

The June 12, 2012 minutes were approved as distributed.
Competition – Our 5 low speed events (a total of 10 runs) at Scarlet Oaks on June 17 went well, but we only
had 12 drivers. Luckily the rain held off until the course was picked up, but the picnic was rained out. The next
sanctioned event is at Kilkare on July 22.

Old Business – It seems that with the rush of convention so soon after our speed events that Pat did not get a
newsletter together in time to send out. So this month, she will combine it.
New Business – No meeting in August due to lack of things happening. The September meeting will be at Full
Throttle Karting, between Costco and Dave & Busters. The Dayton Dragons have invited us to a game and a
car display prior to the game later this year. We should probably put it on the schedule for next year along with
some other WO clubs.

TOPEKA, KS CONVENTION 2012 – Traveling to the Land of Oz
With thanks to another happy convention-goer, Joe.
Our Convention 2012 adventure started on Friday by going to registration and getting the necessary paperwork. The
registration process went very smoothly as they had it pretty well organized. This was probably the best run registration
process I’ve ever encountered in all of my Conventions.
Saturday morning started out rainy. But the high speed practice event went smoothly. Saturday night was the welcome
party. The theme for this party was a military salute to all of the United States military branches. They had a pretty
impressive opening ceremony which included a color guard from a local Indian group. This color guard had performed
at local sporting events and also in our Nation’s Capital.
Sunday was the People’s Choice and Concours shows. The cars were lined up outside the hotel & the temperatures
easily exceeded 100degrees by the time it was over! The Governor meetings at the Conventions are usually lightly
attended and short. About the only thing of importance to come out of it was the announcement for the 2014
Convention bid. There will be more to follow on that subject. Sunday night the awards were given for the top fifteen
women and men. Also the top clubs were
honored..
Monday was the typical rallye for convention, approx. 60 miles long, and should have been done in about 2 ½ hours.
But some rallyists managed to do it in 3 ½ hours. This was followed by the valve cover race. This event seems to get
more popular every year. This is the third year running. The people running this event though should have been more
organized because they had a few problems which caused the event to run longer. Afterwards was the party and
people were dressed in the Wizard of Oz costumes and there were some great ones.
Tuesday was a trip to some different areas of Topeka. Some people went to an Air Combat Museum, Lake Shawnee,
and an old prairie town. The high and low speed events got going & finished before the real 105degree heat set in.
That night was the prom night and again there were some great costumes symbolizing prom night.
Wednesday is was back to the track for more high and low speed, they learned from Tuesday to run high speed for the
cars that were entered, as soon as the low speed was completed. Everyone was done by 1pm. Others here for the
tours spent the Wednesday touring the Harley Davison plant & partaking of some tasty KC BBQ. The day was topped
off with a police escorted, very HOT parade. There were well over 100 cars that traveled first down to Heartland Park
for a lap around the track, then downtown Topeka, and finally back to the hotel. The parade route was lined with a few
people waving and cheering us on. Luckily the State Capitol BBQ dinner was moved back indoors at the hotel.
On Thursday it was back out to Heartland for the drag event. It was a VERY hot day – 108 degrees actual with 125
degree track temps. This really is a very nice facility. In fact SCCA uses this site a lot. They also have their national
headquarters right around the corner from the park. If you are ever in the area of Topeka, you should plan on seeing
the track. If you cannot get there, visit their website at http://www.hpt.com/ and check out some of their photos. The
touring group went to Flint Hills, and the Oz Museum, and had lunch at a winery. Thursday night was the wine tasting
& dessert party
Friday morning was the awards breakfast. This is where the awards are presented for all of the events from the week.
This awards breakfast is free to anyone who registers for the convention. I would be a little remiss if I had not
mentioned the dinners that were given to all attendees for the week. Saturday night at the welcoming party we were all
given a barbeque dinner. On Sunday, during the award presentation for last year’s competition season we treated to
dinner. Monday was a “dinner on your own” night, but Tuesday during the downtown tour we were given a wonderful
lunch in the Bank of America building. On Wednesday we were given a barbeque dinner after the parade. I guess
what I am trying to say, is that when you sign up for one of these conventions, you are fed well. Friday evening was the
charity and national awards dinner. This is the evening where the Charity Corvette drawing takes place. And Windy

City Corvette Club from Orland Park, IL (last year’s convention hosts) won the raffle car!! Very exciting. It’s been
many years since the car winner was actually in the room.
This year’s Convention ended for us on Saturday morning by bidding goodbye to some old friends and some new
ones. The NCCC is like a very large family and one cannot leave a Convention without gaining some new friends. I had
a great time at the Convention as I always do. Next year the Convention will be in Bowling Green, KY. It is a lot closer
to home and I would encourage you to attend!!

Man’s Prized Corvettes, Toys Lost In Garage Fire by Diego Rosenberg on June 19, 2012
It’s likely you’ve read in the past about some poor soul whose cars went up in flames and he didn’t have insurance
coverage. But what if he had insurance? Would the pain be any less great?
When you’ve owned a car for 44 years, no amount of insurance can cover the loss or pain. Here’s the story of John
Hibbeler as told by the State Journal-Register.
John Hibbeler and his three Vettes before/after the tragedy. Image: sj-r.com
Like a lot of Baby Boomers, John was single guy in 1968 who felt a 1966 Corvette fit the bill. When times were tough, he held onto
it, but those were still good times because he had his Corvette. Over the years he acquired two other Vettes, a 1978 with 45,000
miles and a 1991 ZR-1. All three are now gone due to a brush fire that spread to John’s property in Staunton, Illinois.
Chemicals and gas in his shop helped move the fire swiftly through three buildings. The Telegraph reports that the fire crew arrived
at 11:28 p.m. and quickly brought things under control, but the damage had been done; they stayed at the scene until 3:30 a.m. but
were called back two hours later when the fire rekindled. In addition to the fiberglass Chevys, John also lost a Model A street rod, a
1991 Indy pace car pickup, a Harley Davidson, several Waverunners, trailers, automotive memorabilia… and a ton of memories.
“I don’t know what the insurance company is going to pay, but it’s priceless,” Hibbeler said. And he still can be thankful that he still
has his health and his house.
ED. NOTE: For those of us who know John Hibbeler, what a friend of NCCC, long time governor of a club in the
Midwest Region. John is a true member of the NCCC family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him at this time.
JUST A REMINDER - For those of you out there with collectible cars, please check your insurance and update the
values if necessary. NCCC has partnered with Hagerty Insurance to provide competitive rates on “declared value”
insurance. You never know what the future holds!!

Jerry’s Gone, But His Corvettes Remain by Paul Huizenga on June 27, 2012
In Chillicothe, Illinois, alongside Route 29, sits a small-town car dealership called “Jerry’s Corvette’s.” The lot will look
familiar to any Midwesterner – mostly cars not old enough to be truly “vintage” pressed in close together, still
running but ready for their final stop on the way to the pick-a-part lot once they’ve been used up by their new
owners. But though the cars remain, Zach Nelson of PJStar.com (warning – link opens several pop-ups) tells us that
they’ve outlived Jerry:
“Corvette corpses crowd the gravel lot at the intersection of North 4th Street and Illinois Route 29 in Chillicothe. A
well-worn sign on the door lets visitors know that the owner of Jerry’s Corvettes, Jerry Farmer, has “passed on.” That
was news to Carl Fultz, a native of Chillicothe who now lives in Washington state. Fultz said he and Farmer used to
work on, and race, cars together, but he hadn’t seen Farmer in 30 years.”
How many small-town businesses have ended this way? The owner/operator gone to their final reward, no heirs to
the commercial empire to keep it going, just a sign hung by a friend or acquaintance on the door to satisfy the curious
until the city sorts out what to do with the leftovers.
One might wonder whether Jerry knew, when he turned out the lights and locked the front door the last time that he
wouldn’t be back again to try to sell another one of his Corvettes. In any case, the fate of the cars is uncertain as well.
Hopefully they’ll be adopted out to loving homes, rather than sitting through another Illinois winter untended.
Google Street View provides an eerie look back at October, 2007, for those inclined to explore more online… 613
