Rochefort
Geographically in the center of the CharenteMaritime, Rochefort is also close to La Rochelle
as Royan, Saintes and Cognac or islands of Ré and
Oléron.
This Charente-Maritime arsenal city, was born in
1666 by the will of the “Sun King”, who wanted to
sit his ambition both on the land and sea.
He told Colbert building «the most beautiful and
largest arsenal of the Ponant (old french for West)
«. New city grid of wide streets lined with stone
buildings of low-rise waist, nestled in a bend of
the Charente.
Ninth Spa, Rochefort welcomes 15000 patients a
year who appreciate the intensity of the light
invades the wide avenues, the meeting with the
market, the authenticity of the marsh and its flora,
the presence of an unspoiled nature, the quality of
life with the tides.
For over 20 years, she has restored reoccupied,
driven an immense maritime heritage, unique
in Europe, to one of the engines of its economy.
Today, Rochefort is an invitation to travel through
time and space.
She exudes the scent of adventure and exoticism to
own arsenals which prepared the big expeditions.
