“Darnit, Jim! I’m the Doctor, not a plumber! You better call Action Mechanical!” * Yes, I know I butchered and smashed two fandoms together. It’s funny. -Shareece Every SoDak Con has grown and every year we try to give what the attendees want. I am sure that some of you felt that the rebrand to Anime and Geek convention may have changed how we are or what we do. Though we change a little, it is barely enough to see. We just wanted to make SoDak Con a safer place for all geeks of all walks of life, since we really don’t have an outlet to meet people and feel accepted. You may see an increase of other fandoms, but you will see that we still care for all of you equally and provide the same love and kind service that we have always have been proud of. Every year we work harder and harder to make sure that we can always provide for you, your geek home. Instead of filling this space all about the convention, I want to take this page to thank all of my wonderful staff. Thank you to all of you. You help make this crazy idea work and you help bring everything together. Thank you so much. I hope that you will also thank them for their hard work. And I want to thank you, my wonderful attendees. You are the reason we work so hard and we will continue to do so as long as you want us to. Thank you, Shareece Tatum The Amazing Staff Anime Room Dealers Security Table Top Devin Dodson Babara McCormick Cat Moran Joel Rowan Corey Roush Rich Rasmussen David Andrews Chris Crawford Chris Conway Shareece Tatum David Foster Crissy Davies Ardie Tatum Skip Dean Tyler Petit Jacob Nankivel Jacob Mackiville Aaron Baum Jeff Hirth Tim Morgan Erin Moran William Lovegood Floyd Matthew Attack Him Operations Special Guests Jakob Dobbs Keith Anderson David Higaki Jen Higaki Steve Arnts Kendra Baxter Nik Aberle Alex Farrel Wyatt Anderson Jason Wetch Jason Zacarola Andrew Baxter Adam Lewis Hannah Aurand Artist Alley Brian Garnhart Cassidy Klynsma Hannah Franz Katey Torkelson Jessica Wehling Brian Colson Kathy Arntz Art Show Myrriha Nankivel Becky Campbell Ben Hirth Seamus Roof Joe Edison Cosplay Brooke Milliken Te Moonchild Main Events Martha Krebsach Jessica Rosfeld Photography Jason Jones Registration Jean Dean Sarah Ledbetter Brii Pitts Barb Lent Megan Laughlin Grace Dobbs Brittnie Schrier Elizabeth Baumgartner Michael Baumgartner Tim Markovets Holly Noetzelmann Mitchell Kramer SoDak Artist Becca Hendrickson Liz Hendrickson Jamie Judson Video Game Randy Cowherd Tristan Petit James Brown Steve Nauman Zach Sewell John Sixsmith Stephen “Grum Bear” Arntz 1) Please remember to take the time to sleep, eat, stay hydrated, brush your teeth, and bathe. We want you all to stay healthy and conscious while attending the convention. Remember, if a situation arises where you need assistance keep calm and ask a staff member for help. We’re here to help! 2) Badges must be worn at all times during the convention above the waist on the front of your torso where it is easily visible for staff and other attendees. 3) Be courteous and patient to your fellow attendees, convention staff, security, guests, and venue. We’re all here to have fun and keep things running smoothly so everyone can enjoy their time here at SoDak Con. 4) SoDak Con has a PG13 environment. Please keep all verbal, physical, and emotional interactions at or below this level and keep a friendly, positive, and polite attitude towards all of your fellow SoDak participants. Children under the age of 13 are to not be left unattended at any time. 5) No random glomping, hugging, touching, or poking without warning or pursuing with unwanted attention. We do not want anyone feeling unsafe or for cosplay becoming damaged. Remember to ask before hugging or touching. If someone requests that you not touch them, please respect their personal space and admire from afar. 6) Clothing must be worn at all times. If you are wearing something that you could not wear to a public swimming pool then you will be told to leave to change into something more appropriate. All attendees must wear shoes and a form of upper and lower body covering at all times regardless of gender. No form of connecting garments can be worn between two people including but not limited to chains, ropes, leashes, or handcuffs. 7) Nudity, even the illusion of such, is strictly forbidden in both the halls and Costume Contest. This does not mean you can't wear flesh-toned and/or opaque clothing to cover areas, but do not make them anatomically correct. In other words, don't draw on any pink bits! if you have to pull down or constantly adjust your costume to maintain basic requirements, you’re not wearing enough. 8) There will be no removing of articles of clothing for pictures or during the Costume Contest. If you need to have any sort of extra covering to adhere to the guidelines, it must stay on during the entire convention. 9) Outfits with trailing fabric, wings, or any oversized attachments or pieces should be worn with care. If you have an outfit you would like to show off that is rather extravagant in the sense of size you may not be allowed to walk through the halls for safety purposes. You may set up in one area for pictures but you should also make arrangements to be able to change at your convenience. 10) Cameras and video cameras are welcome in and during the convention. Cameras are NOT allowed in the video screening room or dealer’s room. That said, please be aware that you may be caught on film while attending the convention. By buying a ticket and attending the various events you are agreeing to being filmed or photographed by attendees and staff. 11) There is a no real weapons policy at SoDak. No live steel. No Air Soft. No Props that look like real weapons. If you have a prop of some sort it must be checked by operations and will be tagged or marked in some way. If you are caught abusing this privilege in any way that could endanger someone you will be dismissed from the convention. There will be some panels and demonstrations exempt from this rule, and these situations are the only exceptions. This is just not the conventions policies but also the Civic Center's policies. 12) Please respect our venue! Trash goes in garbage cans, and the surrounding property should be seen as sacred as your own. You must follow their rules too. We want to continue to use them as a venue and keep them liking us! 13) If you see anything that could be potentially dangerous or activity that seems inappropriate please report it to a staff member immediately to be addressed. 14) SoDak Con is an alcohol and drug free convention. No attendee, staff or guests will be allowed to drink any kind of alcohol at the convention. If you come to the convention under the influence of alcohol you will be asked to leave. If you are caught providing alcohol or drugs to anyone at the convention you will be banned from the convention permanently. 15) If you are caught stealing from anyone or anywhere during the convention you will be detained, the police will be called, and you will be charged and banned from the convention permanently. 16) If you break any federal or state laws on site you will be held and detained for local authorities to come and handle you. SoDak is a safe and law abiding convention and we do this to keep it that way. If the authorities are needed for your situation you will be banned from the convention permanently. 17) During the convention there is a standard two strike policy. The first time that you are warned for breaking a rule or doing something that a staff member feels is inappropriate your badge will be punched with a hole puncher. If you have to be warned a second time your badge will be confiscated and you will be escorted off of the premises. 18) SoDak Con is a place that is safe for all fans and geeks, because of this SoDak Con has no tolerance for harassment and/or bullying. If you are caught harassing, stalking, pestering or bullying any attendee, staffer, or special guest, you will get one warning to back off. If you are caught preceding to do that you will be escorted out of the convention and banned permanently. Super Happy Otaku Entertainment- We are an Improv panelist from Colorado. In 2008 we really wanted more interactive events at the conventions we went to. Though informative, we weren't really fans of those sit and listen type events. Being cosplayers ourselves we also enjoyed the right opportunity to act in character. So we thought of doing an Improv game showcase with an Anime & Video Game theme. Improv has a nice effect of mixing your panel/event enthusiasts, theatre types, and curious timids into a room and seeing how they interact. The result is usually a joyous, entertaining, and fun event. For some it’s a bold way of taking risks to show your personality and show how proud you are to be a fan of something amazing. We eventually built up a large list of game shows and other interactive events we have designed and hosted over the years. From every Improv practice we do, to every trivia question we write, or random challenge we create, we put a ton of effort into making sure that event guests had a great time and had the chance to participate and be a part of the show we created, for them in mind. Tom Rasch -Tom Rasch has been drawing since before he can remember. At an early age he had a growing interest in the modern mythology of pop culture. He loved comics: Batman and Spiderman, were his favorites. He watched TV shows like Giant Robot, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. He went to the movies as often as he was allowed. In 1977 when Star Wars premiered, something happened. It dawned on him that this is what he wanted to do. he began to realize that there were people behind all this stuff he was so crazy about. He read comics for the artists instead of the characters. John Byrne, Michael Golden and George Lucas were his new inspirations. Since then he has had the opportunity to work as a graphic designer, concept artist, flash animator and have been a penciler for several comic book companies including Marvel Comics. He currently work at Gazillion Entertainment, a San Mateo area video game developer as a concept artist, as well as being the creator of BLACK ALPHA, his sci-fi super hero series that premiered last year and has been featured in USA Today every Wednesday! Tyson Rinehart -After a rather busy year, Tyson's resume has blossomed. Already known for his role as hacker extraordinaire "Itaru 'Daru' Hashida" in Steins;Gate, Tyson's newest cr edits include: " Matsuda" in HighSchool DxD, " Geor g" in Eureka Seven: AO, " Oimo" in One Piece, and "Squeak" in Space Dandy. Other notable roles Tyson has played include "Byard" from Fairy Tail, " Alan" in Jormungand, " Peixe" in Michiko & Hatchin, "Nozomu Tamaki" in Dance in the Vampire Bund, " Bobby" in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and the Head-Irish-Thief-ThatThrows-Dynamite in episode 10 of Black Butler. Tyson has played additional roles in such shows as: Baka and Test, Black Butler (I & II), Darker than Black, Deadman Wonderland, Hetalia, a guy getting his face stepped on in Sengoku Basara, and in Rosario + Vampire Tyson voiced a guy looking up the skirt of an anime resin statue. Tyson is also a writer for Funimation, working on Attack on Titan, Aquarion Evol, and other yet to be announced shows. As a Musician, Tyson provides rhythm guitar and vocals in the punk band Bullet Machine, with their recently released album "Initiate Plan Z". He is a vocalist and harmonica player in Blues-Rock influenced Smokestack Lightning. He was also the vocals and guitarist for the now defunct punk band, The Tommyguns. As a Comedian, Tyson has performed with the veteran improvisational troupe Ad-Libs, as well as writing, performing, and storyboarding various projects with PostHollywood, such as The Jim Wellman Voiceovers.
