Turkey has accessable to multiple markets. Turkey’s geographic location is very convenient for accessing major export markets: EU NEAR EAST Russia ASIA With a flight distance of 4-hours are reacheable: EUROPE MENA CENTRAL ASIA and CAUCASUS Russia Bauma 2016: VDMA Country Special Turkey 10 Agenda Fichtner Turkey Fichtner Mining & Environment Introduction and Basic Economic Figures Strategic Mineral and Energy Resources of Turkey Mining Equipment Market Overview Conclusion Bauma 2016: VDMA Country Special Turkey 11 Turkey Geology – Tethyan Eurasian Metallogenic Belt Source: The University of British Columbia, Mineral Deposit Research Unit Bauma 2016: VDMA Country Special Turkey 12 Energy Resources Production in Turkey Turkey has a significant resource/reserve of Lignite and a good potential of Hard Coal. Asphaltite, Bituminous Schists, Lignite and Hard Coal are available as main energy resources in Turkey. By 2015, 14 Billion ton of Lignite resources (7th largest in the world) and 1.4 Billion ton of Hard Coal resources are consitituted to the country inventory. With coordination of Ministry of Energy And Mineral Resource (EÜAŞ, MİGEM, MTA, TKİ, TTK), 4 (four) new lignite deposits have been discovered: • Karapınar-Konya Lignite Deposit • Dinar-Afyonkarahisar Lignite Deposit • Alpu-Eskişehir Lignite Deposit • Tekirdağ Lignite Deposits Turkey has great potential for Geothermal electric power generation. Bauma 2016: VDMA Country Special Turkey 13 Lignite and Hard Coal Mining 3.5 3 Lignite is major energy source of Turkey. Lignite is most abundant energy resource in Turkey (spread with different scales in around 37 cities). Million ton 2.5 Lignite resources are owned by local enterprises (EÜAŞ, TKİ, MTA) and private companies. 2 Hard Coal Production 1.5 1 0.5 0 2003 2004 2011 2012 2013 Source: MIGEM Lignite is mined with open-pit and underground metholdogy. Kışlaköy Lignite Mining Operation has an annual production capacity of 20 M ton. The important operations are in MuğlaMilas&Sekköy, Sivas-Kangal, Kütayha Seyitömer&Tunçbilek and Çanakkale-Çan. Most of underground lignite mining operations are located in western part of Turkey. The important operations are in SomaManisa, Çayırhan-Ankara, KoyunağılıEskişehir and Tunçbilek-Kütahya. The most active hard coal producer is the state-owned TTK which operates underground mines in Zonguldak hard coal basin. 6 underground mines are in operation which are owned by TTK. Bauma 2016: VDMA Country Special Turkey 15 Asphaltite Mining 700 The main asphaltite resources are located in south-eastern part of Turkey, Şırnak Province. 500 Thousand ton One of the biggest resource of Asphaltite in this region is supplied to 405 MWₑ Silopi Power Plant. 600 400 300 Asphaltite Production 200 100 0 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Source: MIGEM Asphaltite is mined with open-pit and underground metholdogy.
