There are a few facts of life that are undeniable: love is everything, and good hair is a close second. Also,
something about chocolate being the remedy for everything, but let’s just focus on good hair for now.
Whether you’re working, going to a million warm weather weddings, or just trying to get your date game
on, a good blowdry is the name of the jazzy hair game, and we’ve got the secret intel on how to make
yours last during the summer.
According to the experts at Blo Blowdry Bar (they’re national, look ‘em up!), a good
blowdry should last at least 2-3 days, and could go even longer if you follow their tips
below:
Prevent Heavy, Weighed Down Locks. “Start with uber-clean hair. Use a purifying
shampoo and only a dab of conditioner on the ends of your hair. Make sure you choose
your products according to your hair type. For finer hair, use product sparingly, for thicker
hair be more generous.”
Frizzlessness. The key to a smooth mane is to make sure your hair is blown out
completely dry and finished with a blast of cold air. Any moisture left in your hair will
cause instant frizz. Always use shower cap when in the shower or bath between blows!
Pretend it’s the 80‘s. A lil’ backcombing around your crown goes a long way when it
comes to extending your blo out. An extra tease will ensure that your blo out stays red
carpet-ready for days.
Set it! Once styled, set your coif with a mist of good spray, and/or frizz defense depending on your hair’s texture and don’t touch for 10 minutes. The longer your style sets, the
longer it will last. Seriously, don’t touch it.
Twist it, good. Twist it real good. Twist your hair around the top of your head and
secure with a clip before sleeping. It’ll be a voluminous ball of glory upon your waking.
A little spritz. If you’ve got particularly thick or unruly, hair try a dry spray oil on the last day of your blow. It’ll add moisture, shine, and a little
texture to the ends- perfect for braiding, top-knotting, or generally going buckwild. (Editor’s note: I happen to love the Garnier Dry Oil Spray,
but that’s just me.)
Use the right tools. Good hair is like a good recipe, without the right ingredients, you have a yucky outcome. Here are a few of our faves…
1. Garnier’s Miracle Dry Oil. It’s Moses-level considering it really does perform hair miracles. It takes
dry, lifeless hair and gives it shine, texture, and hydration… and at a drugstore price. LOVE. Use this on
2-3 day old hair, or when you need added texture. Available here.
2. Make sections and be secure. Whether you’re making sections during the blow itself or tying it all
back during a workout or sweaty train ride, Goody’s Ouchless Elastics are the solution. They don’t snag
or rip hair, can be secured firmly or loosely (you can even create waves with them with a little know-how),
and are also found at just about every drugstore, ever. And they come in cute colors.
3. Salon-quality brushes. So here’s the deal: the brush is everything. It’s literally the deal breaker here. If
you use a good quality thermal brush like KareCo’ s, you’ll cut drying time and end up with a precision
blow that looks exactly the way you want it to. Luckily KareCo’s brushes were recently made available to
the general public (not just salon owners), and are surprisingly affordable. Using the wrong brush is like
making a tomato sauce with rotten tomatoes. Not a good idea.
