It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, on the morning of June 14, 2013, we were hosting
the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art festive grand opening day ceremony. Our architect,
Matthew Coates, kicked off the event followed by remarks by regional politicians and
dignitariesWashington State First Lady Inslee and BIMA Founder Cynthia Sears officially
cut the ribbon opening the door to over 1,600 people who visited that day! During the
year that followed, over 80,000 people visited BIMA, coming from almost all 50 states and
around the world.
BIMA’s first year, inaugural exhibits featured selections from our permanent collection,
group and individual shows by distinguished artists including Barbara Helen Berger, Margie
McDonald, Heikki Seppa, Gayle Bard, Richard Jesse Watson, Elizabeth Reed Smith, Joseph
Gregory Rossano, David Eisenhour, Tracy Lang, Pam Galvani and many more.
Many educational programs accompany each new exhibition. At the Eye on Artist lecture
series, visitors hear personal insights from artists and explore their processes and
inspiration. Our smARTfilms series promotes community conversation through the visual
arts, film, and narrative. Hands-on classes, demonstrations, exhibit tours, and workshops
offer popular learning opportunities to interact with living artists. We also support a
diverse array of artists by selling handmade regional items in the Museum Store and
showcasing locally sourced foods in the BIMA Bistro.
BIMA serves as a community resource for many groups as we continue to build local and
regional relationships. Donations from the community help ensure that the museum
remains open seven days a week and is free and accessible to all. Our vision has become
reality. BIMA is a showcase for the art and craft of our region and our time, an inspiration
for the artist in all of us.
On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and Staff—thank you!

Auction Rules and Absentee Bidding
Registration
Upon entering the auction or during the artist preview events, you will receive or confirm your bid
number. Please use only the bid number assigned to you for bidding on silent and live auction items.
Silent Auction
Silent Auction opens per the published Schedule of Events. The minimum bid and minimum raise
for each item is written on the bid sheet by the item. To be valid, bids must comply with these
minimums and be legible. Please note that only absentee bids can be placed in advance on items
reserved for Saturday, June 14, 2014. Only items in the Thursday, June 12th Special Silent Auction may
be bid on in person the night of the preview event (see also Absentee Bidding Instructions).
To place a bid, write your bid number next to the bid amount on the bid sheet. Doing so constitutes
a legal contract to purchase that silent auction item at the price you stated if your bid is the winning
bid. The last (highest) valid bid entered at the moment the section closes will be the winning bid.
A maximum guaranteed bid is stated on each bid sheet. By placing your bid number in this box, the
bidding closes. The item is yours and will be available for pick up or delivery (see Delivery) once it is
paid for and packaged.
The Auction Committee reserves the right to withdraw any item at any time without notice before
the actual sale. In the event of a dispute, the Auction Committee shall act as final authority in
determining the winning bid.
Live Auction
Live Auction bidding will begin according to the published Schedule of Event. When bidding, please
hold up your bid number toward the auctioneer. The Live Auction will continue until all items are
sold.
If a group is bidding on one item, please designate one person to place your combined bid. Auction
items will be awarded to one purchaser only.
A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item.
Absentee Bidding
All auction ticket holders (Thursday, June 12 & Saturday, June 14) are eligible to place absentee
bids on any auction items. Eligible absentee bids must be placed using the Absentee Bid Form. This
bid form will be available during the Artist Preview Event (Thursday, June 12) and Friday, June 13th
(1-6PM) or otherwise upon request. Absentee bids for the silent auction items will be placed 20
minutes after the doors open for silent auctions. Bids are kept and placed by a small (confidential)
team of auction committee members and/or volunteers. The bidder will be notified within 24 hours
if their bid wins the item(s). Live auction absentee bids can be placed by a dedicated BIMA staff
person or volunteer who will bid in increments (up to your maximum amount) as requested by the
auctioneer only following another legitimate bid from an auction attendee.

Payment
All items must be paid for by the end of the evening. For your convenience, we provide an Express Pay
option so that you may pre-register your credit card. We gladly accept Cash, Check, MasterCard, Amex,
and Visa.
Pick-Up
Once you have paid for your winning items, you will be issued a receipt. Please present this receipt at
Pick-Up to claim your winning tangible items and/or certificates for services.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to remove his/her winning item(s) by the end of the auction,
unless prior arrangements are made for delivery (see Delivery) .
Terms of Sale
Unless otherwise noted, all certificates for goods and services must be used within one year of the
auction date. All items and services are subject to the terms and conditions specified by the donors.
Potential bidders may request assistance from an auction committee member to inspect pieces during
the preview events. BIMA will have dedicated auction representatives for this purpose. All sales are
final. There will be no exchanges or refunds. Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) does not make
any expressed or implied warranties or guarantees on auction items regarding quality or value of items
or services. BIMA attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered and
sold “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS.”
BIMA neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for the correctness of
descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition of the items. No statement made in this
catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty for tax purposes or
market value. Items have not been appraised unless otherwise noted.
Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations must be mutually arranged with the donor
unless otherwise noted. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets and/or
accommodations.
By the buyer’s purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against BlMA, its elected and appointed
officials, members and employees, sponsors, volunteers connected with the auction, and/or the donor
of the item. Neither BIMA nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damage that may
result from the use of the property or services.
Tax Information
This catalog lists the fair market value of each item. Any amount you pay in excess of the
fair market value would normally be available to you as a charitable contribution for tax purposes.
Please check with your tax advisor for specifics. BIMA will mail you a letter for your records.
Delivery (just like admission to the art museum – IT’S FREE!)
We include free delivery within the Puget Sound region for any large or fragile items purchased Thursday
or Saturday Night. Simply ask about delivery at check-out, and a staff or volunteer art handler will make
an appointment with you in the days immediately following the event.
