It sure felt great to be back at the lake last weekend, what great weather!!! Everything is starting to look so good out there. The flower pots are up, the washhouse construction is well under way and our fitness equipment will be in soon. Don and his crew are hard at work. The pool was busy, as were the play grounds. North beach looks fantastic, no garbage or wood. Mike and I walked it and felt like we were in Mexico. Now we just need some more water in the reservoir!! Our first social function is next weekend. Please join us for a pub and games afternoon, starting at 3 pm. June 6th, is our AGM and we hope to have a follow up dance that evening. Join us for a fun filled evening and get your crazy hats ready to go! Bettina and I stocked the bar last weekend. Our new bar cooler looks great. We have a full complement of bartenders to keep us lubricated over this social season. I had a visit from a cousin last Sunday who was from Calgary. His family was totally impressed with our resort. Sometimes, it takes a stranger to the area to remind us how special this place is. Thank you to all the event co-ordinators that have already approached us about organizing social events. Our calendar for July and August is almost full! Your quote for the week: The secret to having it all, is believing you already do!! Have a great weekend. Peter Flannigan and Greg Eagleson have stepped down from their positions and will be missed from your Board. They have offered their continued help and I’m sure the present Board will be calling on their expertise. Both Peter and Greg are valued members and deserve a big THANK YOU from all the members of the society for the many volunteer hours they have given us. Rob Lemon and Damien Leroy were elected our newest members of the Board and we look forward to working with both of these men. Many thanks to Susan Cramer for guiding us through the AGM each year. We couldn’t do it so efficiently or quickly without you Susan. Our final but very important thank you goes out to Lynne Wortman who magically and silently makes donuts and coffee appear for our meeting. GLBS BY-LAWS At our 2014 AGM a committee was formed to review the current by-laws as many feel they need to be brought up to date. This will require a vote from the membership and we are expecting the changes to be presented at the 2016 AGM. MARINA RECONFIGURATION As reported at the AGM, we have been working on this project and believe a solution has been found for a new system although we will be using what we have for one more season. This year we will reconfigure A-string eliminating 2 fingers (4 slips) using the present system. As a result we may be reassigning some members to different slips. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. WORK BEE - HELPING HANDS NEEDED! There is a work bee lined up for Sunday, June 7th (next day after the resort AGM) to complete tasks that need to be done before the marina is installed. Anyone interested, please show up at the marina by 9:30 am. See one of the Board members when you arrive. We require 15—20 members and if any of you have a drill, please bring it along. Let’s see if we can get some of the younger bodies out as our old, dedicated boys are starting to feel their age. Keeping your fees as low as possible is dependent on volunteer labour and it’s always a chance to meet some new people. MARINA INSTALLATION This will be announced in the future as we receive more details regarding the water level. MEMBER EMAIL Anna Marie is putting together a member contact group email so that we can inform our members by email. We have many of the members’ email addresses but not all. If you wish to stay informed, please send an email to [email protected] to be put on the list. Remember the resort and the boating society are two separate entities so if you change information with the resort, please remember to inform the boating society as well. RV-friendly toilet paper is made to disintegrate quickly to avoid clogging up your sewage system or tank. Edgar Farms Asparagus Festival Update: Due to concerns over this year’s harvest following two devastating hail storms last year, Edgar Farms has cancelled its annual asparagus festival, which many Carefree residents enjoyed. The event was set to go ahead this weekend, but they’ve decided to cancel due to the limited supply of their sweet asparagus following a “perfect storm” of weather conditions last year that forced the farm to decide not to pick certain portions of the fields. They will continue to pick from the healthiest parts of the fields and will be selling a limited supply of asparagus at farmers’ markets and the farm’s store. NOTICE TO LOT OWNERS LAUNDRY MACHINES Our laundry facilities are run on a “Cost Recovery Basis”. To maintain this, the price for washing machines in our clubhouse laundry room and the washhouse has changed from $1.50 to $2.00. The cost of drying a load has changed from $.75 to $1.00. *NOTE: Machines do not accept toonies. Please bring in your current proof of insurance to the Office in order to receive your required ‘15’ sticker. We will be looking for your name, expiry date and specification that the golf cart is in fact covered. If the insurance you submitted last year is still viable, come into the office and we will give you your sticker. A concrete image Work is progressing nicely on the new concrete pad for the outdoor exercise equipment. The stone paths have also been upgraded to concrete. The concrete company and our own Carefree staff members have been hard at work this past week, getting it ready for the weekend. We plan to police this subject more thoroughly this year, as it has been in effect for nearly 4 years now, and should be routine for lot owners with golf carts. Golf carts found driving around the resort without a ‘15’ sticker will be escorted back to their respective lots, and should remain parked until the sticker has been issued. If a golf cart is caught without the appropriate sticker more than once, a fine of $25.00 will be issued to the lot owner. Repeat offenders can expect increasing penalties including having their golf cart removed from the resort. We are confident that this procedure will ensure that our Carefree community is a safer place for all residents. For more information regarding golf carts, please see current policy statements.
