A Theatre by the Lake production
directed by Mary Papadima
designed by Martin Johns
Lughnasa: ancient Celtic pagan festival at the beginning
of harvest. Also called Lammas; still celebrated in Ireland. It’s 1936 and in rural Donegal a way of life is about to end.
For the five unmarried Mundy sisters and their young
nephew Michael, Lughnasa not only marks the changing
of the seasons but also a change in their lives.
When their missionary brother Jack returns from years
abroad and Michael’s father arrives on an unexpected
visit, the sisters soon realise the men have brought home
more baggage than just their suitcases.
The sisters’ beloved wireless brings a welcome escape,
with dancing, laughter and moments of tenderness.
But beneath the brave faces, these women are fighting
to keep body and soul together.
Brian Friel’s semi-autobiographical story is an
internationally renowned and multi-award-winning play.
A powerful portrayal of the yearning of the human spirit
to break free.

A Theatre by the Lake production
directed by Jez Pike
designed by Martin Johns
A moving and revealing portrait of two men brought
together by their hatred of war and their love of poetry:
Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
Beginning with their awkward first encounter at the
Craiglockhart Hospital for Nervous Disorders, Not About
Heroes charts the growth of an intense relationship
between the confident, upper-class Sassoon and the
stuttering, provincial Owen. Already an established poet,
Sassoon initially dismisses the younger man, yet is soon to
both recognise and nurture his extraordinary talent.

It’s apocalypse now as the RSC
set their sights on the good

Shepherds’ Meets are

Lakeland Dialect was first
broadcast from The Oddfellows
Arms in Caldbeck in 1937. It was
written by Harry Lamb, founder
of the Herdwick Sheep Society,
whose works were broadcast by
the BBC during the war years.
His observations on country life
were popular and helped keep

And can they squeeze another rhyme out of the capital of
Slovenia? Don’t miss this hilarious musical pastiche from
this multi award-winning a cappella comedy group.

why – loveable characters, fantastic songs and of course the most
iconic dance number ever.
